night shot

Featured Replies

Had a go with the manual settings over looking the M6 just before midnight. Came out ok but I should've used my 35mm lens.

I like the lane changing :)

Night traffic shooting is starting to become addictive!

What have i started???? :D

Good picture by the way. I've always been a fan of long exposure night time shots. The first one i did was about 15 years ago from the roof of an 8-storey office block where i worked in the centre of Sheffield with my old 35mm Canon EOS1000fN. I'm sure i've got scans of those shots somewhere on the PC.

Cheers

Dave.

You're not wrong there. I'm gonna use a tripod and remote next time and have it on a longer exposure

Yep always best to use a remote release so you don't get any shake on the camera. The one's on my thread were various exposures between 60 seconds and around 180 seconds. The longer exposures also mean the light streaks cover over the original starting points of the vehicles like you have in lane 1. Let us know how you get on.

It was easier to see Daves picture settings as his exif data was still present. Yours for some reason wasn't :S

If you haven't got a remote release then use the self timer. My other 'problem' was that the camera aperature wouldn't go small enough to enable a longer exposure.

This is one of my 20 sec exposures where you can actually see the top lights of a slightly bouncy truck passing!

Edit: Just checked out my exif data and it's also been stripped from the uploaded picture :(

I always shoot in RAW so may be why my data was still present???

I f you look carefully in my last pic in lane 3 you can see the pulsing red lights of a car with LED rear lights as apposed to the smooth streak on the vehicles with normal bulbs. :)

Only just noticed that after you told us! As for shooting RAW - just evaluating what the next toy will be.

Try using a lower ISO (ideally 100) for a longer time and maybe dropping another stop? As with all pictures, experimentation, together with trial and error gets you there - eventually!

Unfortunately if you either save the image or got to the image location, then it's still not possible to see the info.
