Back wheels letting air out slowly - WTF!

Featured Replies

I ve got a W plate skoda fabia and love it to bits - Its served me well over the years

About 6 months ago I got two part used Yokohama tyres put on the back wheels - These let air out after about a week and a month or so ago I got a further two part worn tyres..

Again these are letting air out and after a week or so of driving they only have 10 psi left in them.

I ve read before that there might be a slow puncture - I doubt very much that is the case.

Is it possible that the alloys have been bent up? Sounds quite unlikely especially given that this is on both sides.

I ve also had a different tyre shop refit them and they still let air out

Does anyone know what might cause them? I am quite fed up forking out for another pair

leaky valves? it seems sensible that if the wheels were buckled in some way that air would escape if the tyre was not fitting the rim properly.

That said, I would have thought that should be picked up when balancing the wheel after tyre fitting?

it could be leaky valves, or it could be corrosion on the tyre beading side of the wheel causing a small air leak around the edge.

If you're buying part worns chances are they're just bunging a tire on the rim without preparing it..

When they've taken the old tire off they should remove left over rubber from the inside bead edge, we use a wire brush for this then blow the rim off with compressed air. Cut the old valve out and replace with new, then soap up the new tire and refit.

You may have a leak from the valve or a tiny one through the tire bead and they're not changing/cleaning them.
