It's not that black and white though, is it? :D

Let us know what sort of ideas you have for the format of this club so we know what we're

voting on! :D

My thoughts are located on the other thread...

I'm just after the basic yes or no... Whether you would want to see a club or not...

:D

Agreed, the old saying if it aint broke, dont fix it springs to mind. Before anybody votes on anything what are we voting on & what are the benifits, personally & on reflection I think a small contribution to ensure the organisers of the site are not out of pocket is all that is needed at this stage

OK, I promise I'm really not trying to be awkward, so apologies if it seems that way, but...

I've never actually been a member of an owner's club to know what's involved. So I'm not

really sure where the boundary between the free forum and a subscription club would lie,

or whether briskoda would be the club or a separate entity formed within Briskoda, the

amount paid to join the club and what benefits would be gained, and how this would affect

the sign up rate for non-members. I think some form of value added services would be

useful in keeping the forums as good as they are, but whether that would be called a club

or not I don't know.

So I've no idea what to vote... ;)

Rob.

I gotta admit I voted NO. I can see how modifications can be made to this site, as detailed in the other thread, but I'm against forming a definite club. I think there must be somewhere in the middle that would be the most ideal... I hope.

I voted no too, as a "proper club" is not what people seem to want....

If people want this forum + extras then thats what we'll give em!

:D

I'm a NO, too. As I see it, that's what the koda Owner's Club UK is for.

Still happy to contribute to the upkeep/improvement of this forum and go to lots of meets and anywhere else we choose to be represented though :) Also agree that the promotion and growth of the group can only be a GOOD thing, representing more bargaining power with koda UK and other commercial organisations.

Had a look at their website to see how much information you can

glean for nothing. There's not a whole lot for free compared with

on here, and their newsletter is quarterly so if you had a burning

question you wanted answering I don't know how quickly you

could get a response.

However, they definitely have their meets and events well

organised - the list goes right up to January 2004! They have

a link to Briskoda which is nice though - good one to whoever

organised that...

I'm not certain of the reasoning for this poll.

As far as I am concerned, reading the comments in the earlier thread it is fairly clear what the general concensus is. Yes to some "tweaking" to ensure the guy's in the back room aren't out of pocket and to support the growth of this forum (for the mutual benefit of all).

But as for the establishment of an owners club - Its been said before, but there already is one of those up and running.

I wont say how I voted - I think you can guess.

With regard to the "Skoda Owners" website.

They do have a link to bulletin board "Skoda Rescue" which is for posting "For Sale" items and requests for help. Posted my old Favorit and within a two>three days had four or five enquires and I was rid within 5 days. So there must be some activity there - although it may not be as interactive/immediate as we enjoy here.

I would echo what everyone else has said really. Perfectly willing to contribute to the running costs of the site, only fair really.

If I want to join an owners club then i'll join the "official" one. Did have a quick look at their site and they do organise some different events than purely looking at other peoples cars/mods. for example there is a treasure hunt next month

Im afraid I voted NO as well. I would be willing to make a contribution per annum to the Briskoda site , but wouldnt want the rigidity of a formal owners club (ive been in enough of them - VWOCoGB ,Lothian and Borders VW Club , Capri Club International , Capri Club Scotland , Porsche Club GB so far!) with printed newsletters. I have thought about joining the 'main' Skoda Club , specifically for the car shows - (I may be sad but i could use up roll after roll of film at a classic car show - i love 'em!) - but i prefer to be a member of Briskoda as far as the performance/motorsport/styling aspects of owning my car , as well as the forum (which i enjoy greatly BTW).

Quite like the way things are, that's not to say there's no room for change. I feel I'am part of a club already. If you want to get a stand at shows and show the cars off great, IMHO that can be organized on the forum can't it. Why do we need a club? Perhaps i'am missing something.

Nice to see new ideas from members though.

PS Colin, got my pen and cheque book at the ready if you want to do something new/more of the same.

Another No here , I like it as it is , but also more than happy to contribute towards the running costs of the site .

Des , whilst you have got your cheque book out , I do have a remap to pay for ;)

I have not voted yet, and am not inclined to do so without understanding what the so-called Club represents. I have to admit that this forum/website already feels like a club, and that there is no need to become an elitist club, scaring off potential 'members' or new posters. I'm happy to contribute to the upkeep of the site though, whether that is an anual or one-off payment. It would be nice if Colin could set up some online donate button (paypal, nochex, eggpay, fastpay, whatever-is-the-next-big-thing-pay) so that we at least can contribute if we feel inclined to.

It would ofcourse be double nice if it could be combined with exclusive Briskoda merchandise :D

Q.

i'm afraid i voted no as well i think think the site is doing just fine. i am willing to contribute to site as well (only not in funds) i will give my tech knowledge to any body that wants it and if i don't know the answer i'm sure it will only take me a couple of days to get it. regrads big k (keep up the good work administrators/ moderators colin etc.)

Here are my four eurocents from mainland Yurp:

1. Briskoda is the abbreviation of brisk Skoda, not British Skoda.

2. Turning this internationally flavoured site into a UK club would not be my idea of the right direction.

3. The Skoda Owners Club seems to be focused on the pre-VAG models. It would do well if it had a section covering the VAG era, giving the marque's history a more balanced outlook.

4. So why don't some of you approach the Owners Club to form a specialized "VAG department" within the Club? I know many enthusiasts' clubs that have designated sub-sections like these. In this way there won't be two clubs fighting their territory at Skoda UK, but instead a more powerful single club that will be better able to get across a broad spectrum of demands - not just on Skoda Estelle spare parts, but on modern performance enhancements as well.

As I said in the other thread - please try to keep a pragmatic view about this.

As a newbie, and having toured various other sites/forums in the past, I have to say that Briskoda is one of the only sites that I come back to on a regular basis.

Despite the site originally (I guess) being designed for performance Skoda owners, it's nice to see that non-performance owners such as me are still welcomed into the fold. I think this contributes greatly to the feel of the site.

It is obvious that there is a hard core (ooerrr) of support within the site and a number of committed individuals who give up much of their own time to enable us all to benefit.

I think that what is already covered in the site would broadly cover the requirements (sorry I didn't see the other thread) of a 'club'.

I'm also happy to contribute, like all of the others above, to the upkeep of the site as well as buying stickers to proudly display in my car (hmmm, must get round to doing that).

For a site with only 450 members I think it does extremely well - long may it continue and expand!!

OK, I'm going!!!

This thread is 2.5yrs old so Freedom didn't exist, hence the comments being a little out of date.

Totally agree with the above, this forum is open and friendly, what would be gained by the "owners club"?, that we dont already get here.

If everyone coughed up the

Thanks M8, I thought I was loosing the plot until I read this

:thumbdwn: Bad idea I think. Personally my car doesn't rule my life even if I spend an unhealthy amount of time talking about cars on Briskoda. At least I can talk about a few other things too on here. Gives me the feeling of actually having a life even though it's more of an existence.
