Yeti vs Peugeot 3008

Featured Replies

I have had my heart set on a yeti for about 4 months now but despite a test drive in December I have still not managed to find a dealership which will offer me more than 8% discount on buying the 2.0 4WD Elegance, which on its own is not too bad but add on Skodas almost 8% interest and I find it a little high and wanted 10% discount

Am I being over optimistic ? I have also now been thinking of the Peugeot 2008 Crossover as an alternative, and will be test driving it next week to see how it compares as it looks very well made, reviews very well and is cheaper for the same spec even tho it looks bland.

Bit of a dilemma now ! :S

I got 16% discount from an online dealer. They do finance and PX and supply through a UK dealer. Have a look at the deals on this page Clicky

you'd be doing well to get a modest discount - Skoda can sell this cars all day long and their order books are full.

At the end of the day, it stands to reason that the Skoda will depreciate less over 3 years. And the 3008 is pig ugly.

Yes they can and its that which annoys me especially as their finance is almost 8% so they are making a fair wedge on each one !!

I think the 3008 would be well worth a test drive based on the pretty good reviews it got. Personally having had a Peugeot before I don't think I'd buy another one.

+3 had pug crap lost loads of cash on trade in never again

Liked the bigger boot in the 3008 but it seemed such a bulky car compared to the yeti. I decided not to even bother with a test drive when I sat in it. It was like a cockpit and I had no idea where the bonnet ended. It seemed very enclosed not airy like the Yeti. More like a BMW. Some people might like that though.

No contest, despite what some press say, the Yeti is vastly superior to the Pug.

A waiting list that seems to be lengthening the whole time demonstrates that even in these tighter times, the Skoda is becoming quite sought after.

The styling of the Skoda seems to attract very favourable comments from other drivers and if you take a look at the Peugeot, you wonder who had the bravery to sign off something that to my eyes looks such a complicated mess.

It is definitely worth shopping around for a price on the Yeti and in my experience it is worth talking to dealers. If you find one that is reluctant to negotiate, there are plenty of others out there that will.

8% APR is pretty competitve compared to high street bank loans. In the current market I think that it is respectable albeit somewhat more expensive than before the recession. Cars sold with 0% or low finance are usually in need of a little help to get them shifted.

Charlie,

My other half dragged me off to look at it in the flesh ...

and I refused, point blank, to even sit in it!! :giggle:

I took one look at its grill and thought of "Jaws"!

one look through the open door and as you say it looked like you were in some kind of cockpit of a racing car with no room to move....or a bit like 2 cars welded together!!

the salesman opened the boot which got my other half oohing at the size of it- what is it with boots and men?? I'm looking mystified at what he thinks we are going to fill it with... does he know something I don't??

At this point I wandered off...

But as you say some people might love it!!

I mean I hear some people hate Yetis :o

Beware Peugeot resale values. We're selling our PUG 206CC to buy the Yeti. It's under two years old, cost £16,695 new, and the best we can get is £7,500 trade-in. That's 55% depreciation over two years!!! The Peugeot dealer isn't even interested in buying it from us.

Yeti by a very long mark. They are very highly regarded and as such resale is likely to be pretty good. Buy via drivethedeal for a hassle free but VERY competitive sale. Their dealer is also very good in my experience

Don’t give up at the first Peugeot dealer you try (if you haven’t already rung round). I just sold my Fiat Sedici to a dealer and the first couple I tried already had 1 or 2 of them and didn’t want any more (they are a rare vehicle). So I thought about it and rang a couple of dealers who were up in parts of the North West that might appreciate a 4x4 a bit more (Stockport isn’t renown for it’s fanatical 4x4 requirement) and hey presto, the Bury Dealer bit my hand off.

You will of course get the Trade value, which is even less than the Part ex valuation, but you can haggle with the buyer. Funnily enough I was talking to a couple of salesmen I used to work with and they both said ‘webuyanycar’ occasionally offer decent money. The only thing with them is they will offer you one price in an email and then try to chip you once you take it for inspection (but not always). I think they are part of the Carcraft group.

Discounts in the 10-14% band definitely are available but I guess it depends on what sort of business model your local dealer might use.

If it's a small dealer then presumably they receive (or bid for?) only a small allocation of new cars and are then dependent on selling these at a reasonable margin to stay in business.

But then other dealers who are more at the supermarket rather than the corner shop end of the market rely on larger volumes of sales and hence can offer better unit pricing.

I must say that, as a newcomer to the Skoda marque, I've been surprised at just how small many Skoda dealers' showrooms are. (Not a problem or a criticism, just an observation.) So maybe there are more SKoda dealers at the corner shop end of the market and hence a greater need for potential buyers to travel around to a higher volume dealership in search of the best deal.

Incidentally, talking of dealerships, I notice that Farmers in Nottingham describe themselves (website) as:

'We are one of 7 retailers in the country who have been appointed as centres of quality & expertise, reporting directly to Skoda. '

Anyone know more about this scheme? Is there any benefit in buying from one of these - apparently - seven dealers? If so, who are the other six?

I would be happy if a dealer would offer me 10% which I still dont think is unreasonable in all the time I have bought new cars ! I would even have accepted 8% if the finance had been nearer 5% and not 8% but a bit of give and take surely ?

Pug 3008 is butt ugly! I clean them in work and hate them!

Also they have problems with the electronic handbrake. we've had several in work fail and thats them brand spankers!

Would be a Yeti all day long for me! Much better looks, only thing i like in the 3008 is the HUD

Try Darren Sampson at Simpsons, Great Yarmouth. I bought my Yeti as an ex demo from another dealer but Darren did my wife a great deal on her Roomster Scout and when I asked for a deal for a new Yeti from him, it was very tempting. Unfortunately I don't have the figures still so can't quote a percentage. I was part exing an Octavia and so it was not a straight cash deal but without seeing my car he was talking very sensibly. If they'd had the right ex demo Yeti, I would definitlely have made the trip up to see Darren.

It is nice to buy your new car from a local dealer but my wifes Roomster has never been back to Norfolk and it has never been a problem.

On-line Drive the Deal and Broadspeed are generaly competitive and well known.

I notice you're in Somerset, but James at Allams in Epsom Surrey (which sponsors this site I believe) and Geoff Garner at Withams in Walton on Thames, also Surrey I think, are both very helpful and straightforward and should discuss realistic discounts I would bet. Give them a call.

I believe one of the on-line sites sources its Skodas from Marlborough Skoda in Isleworth, Middlesex so you could probably get a good discount by dealing with them direct.
