saw a yeti!

Featured Replies

I saw an Aqua Blue SE 140 4x4 on a 59 plate driving along Roman Way in Croydon on tuesday. As it went past me, I was on my MTB, I thought once again that these are small cars. You can't tell from the pictures how small they are, I felt I was towering over it when I was on my bike. I know I wasn't, but that was the impression I was given. We are so used to the size of Discos etc, that it seems like a dinky toy in comparison, even it it will give any SUV a good run for the money with the right tyres on!

I've had the same feeling. But both ways. The first one I saw after the test drive at the Canary Wharf Motor Expo felt huge! Higher to get into than I remember and taller too. But then it was also standing on it's own with no cars really close to get a sense of scale:

Then other times I spot one and it looks so small. Like when I took this picture of one next to my A2. Peculiar. I saw these pics recently which I sent to a friend so he could gauge the size:

Looks a bit undertyred to me next to the suzuki :smirk:

Went over to Dalby forest today (Sat) saw three in total on the A170 near Thirsk. I didn't flash or wave didn't want to confuse anyone as I passed in my leased Ford Fiesta. Week 41 build still to be confirmed.

I only realized this week that Skoda week 41 is in fact week 42 in my diary (Week starting 11 Oct).

Hi Jock,

did you by chance have anything to do with all the 'classic' Escort Mk I & 2 rally cars I kept following or passing yesterday while taking my lads Furby I to Chapmans (Pickering) to fix a central locking fault.

Didn't relise until I posted this 'spot' in the general motorsport forum there was a major rally event going on up there.

TP

Yes, it was the Trackrod Rally - with current machinery as well as historic - there was even a Lancia Stratos, which has still to be one of my favourite cars - it's not often I see them running these days though - they usually break down before they get to me!

Sounds like you had a great day then  very much enjoyed seeing the Escorts, a Mk II RS2000 is on the list of cars I would have like to of owned but for one reason or another never did.

Remember coming across a 'chisel' nose custom in 92 (over 10 years after production ended) in a warehouse belonging to Polar Ford in York; appeared to be unregistered and I always wonder what happened to it.

Saw two steel grey's ( or may have been the same one twice) and an aqua blue, so if one was you hello from me.

If you saw the Stratos running you did better than me, I think it expired before the woodyard. When is saw it it was being towed out by a Discovery. I had a good day rally spectating. I haven't ventured into Dalby Forrest for a few years now it was nice to be back.

Seeing three SM's in one day was a first for me.

I remember the Stratos in it's heyday with Sandro Munari and Waldegård - that was some car way back then!

I gather you had some "trouble" around the woodyard?

I was sitting in Housedale up a junction on the middle of a straight trying to clock car numbers as they passed me - and with the speed and mud, it was not an easy task!

I had a load of comments about the Yeti though - all favourable! I've never experienced so much interest in a vehicle I've owned before.

I spent the first couple of hours in the Woodyard then moved up onto J22 of Housedale after the incident involving the Co Driver who had to be air lifted by the air ambulance.

Thought the Woodyard was a bit too 'Micky Mouse' for a diehard enthusiast like me.

I notice we seem to have quite a few owners/soon to be owners interested in this sport. It's one of the reasons I chose the Yeti, I think it will be a great vehicle for travelling about watching these type of events. I just hope mine arrives in time for the Rally GB........still looking at week 41 build so keeping fingers crossed.

Know a few of them as I'm on the national Motoring Committee!!

If you ever see Chris Devenish give hime my regards.

Graham

Saw Chris over the weekend, he sends his regards.

I did not think I was going to see any Yetis in Crete this past week but hey ho I did. One in the west near where we were staying and then later two in the main town Heraklion (and three outside the dealer). And they were near all Cappuccino brown. Weird.

I have seldom seen a Yeti of any description around Aberdeen in the past few months but I stopped for petrol at a BP filling station last Friday and an identical Steel Grey Yeti pulled up at the next pump. SWMBO came out of the BP shop and walked towards the wrong car!

Having spent the last week down in sunny Cornwall I can up my count of spotted SM's.

1 parked outside a house in a village near Mavagissey. (silver)

1 in a car park in Truro (silver)

1 between Truro and Playing Place.(green)

1 passed us on the A30 near Bodmin on Sunday (dark silver with bikes on the roof)

1 red one passed us on the A30 nearer Exeter and we got a wave and big smile from them.

Out for lunch today in Wentworth, near Rotherham/Sheffield: saw a dark blue SM in the car park next to The Bistro. Only the third I've seen in the flesh!

I saw one today parked on Loadswines' driveemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

 Nice one Mike!

Funnily enough I have seen 3 other Yetis since Friday when I picked mine up. A steel grey one in Asda car park in Sutton, Friday evening, a metallic blue near Handcross on Saturday and a steel grey this morning around 9 ish on the A3.

seeing 4or5 yetis a week around here now must have come out of for the snow thats forecast on Thursday

I saw two in Northumberland on the same day on Saturday, a red one at Kingston Park and another Aqua Blue one, I think, screaming down the A697 towards Morpeth. They are definitely spreading.
