Front aero wipers

Featured Replies

My Octy has always had the standard wipers but I've seen quite a few with front aero wipers and a rear wiper with a large plastic cover over the arm. My question is what do you all have and where did you get them from?

I know you can fit the aero wipers from the later Mk4 Golf models but you need the arms as well. I just phoned the local VW dealers for a price and was quoted over £100 for the whole lot. Even looking online the kit isn't much less than £80-90. What are the Bosch ones like that fit to your existing arms? And what are the options for the rear wiper?

I have Bosch retrofit Aerotwins on the front and they are great, but they are not cheap. I paid £17.50 for a set. Easy to fit.

There are cheaper retrofit Aero options but IMHO they just not as good.

I have the retrofitted blades which are availalble from the Skoda Dealers and find that they are OK, the only thing is that you lose the curved blade from the passenger side, so the arm needs re-positioning slightly on the splines so that it doens't catch the trim at the bottom of the screen.

The rear arm that you mention with the cover over the blade is standard on the Octavia hatch from late 2003 on. My 53 plate Elegance has one.

i have the full oem kit and yes there £100 but worth every penny buddy looks the nuts

i have bosch blades and they are good i also have the rear one aswell which was off a lesser model with the black plastic cove you mentioned and its rubbish it misses a bit right in the middle of its sweep!!

Are they the same length (19" & 21")?

I have silicone wiper blades and would still like to use them if possible.

Actually, I'll look at Clive's Saturday :dull:

Thanks for the replies I think I'll go for a set of Bosch blades as I'm not paying over £100 to change the arms!!! I've ordered a rear aero wiper blade to fit my rear wiper arm as I think I'd have to buy the arm, blade and washer jet unit if I wanted the post 2004 look.

I normally get the Valeo Silencio X.TRM retrofit blades. Just finishing off my second set now, and they've been superb.

They're a bit more expensive and harder to find than the Bosch ones. I've never really been blown away by Bosch wiper blades, they seem to rely on their brand image to sell them.

I'll try some of these Bosch ones next though, and see how they compare.

I want the full arm and blade conversion too, but it's tough to justify the expense! Then again the splines on my current arms did look pretty shagged when I took them off the other day!

I'll get a quote from my local friendly Skoda parts man. He gets me VW bits and a nice chunky discount!

I've tried a couple of cheapo retro-fit aero blades and they were great for about a month, and then just left streaks and seemed to disintegrate

However, since spending the extra for the Bosch ones I have no complaints. They've lasted all through last summer, autumn, winter and are showing no signs of giving up the ghost. I'm going to try and keep them through to the end of the year

I got a set of Valeo Silencio ones in the end just arrived and have fitted them, also a smaller aero wiper for the rear from ebay which fits on lovely and looks good. The passenger side front one doesn't seem to contact the screen on the extreme outside end of it though, does yours do this Bodge?

I searched on this here a few weeks back and decided to order Bosch Aerotwin retrofits. They wipe much better, there's less wind noise at speed and they're more stable. Unfortunately the nearside one doesn't actually make contact for the first couple inches as the windscreen curves, but the standard blades weren't perfect in that department so I don't care.

Replacement arms is just too much money IMO. If I have £100 to spend on the car (which I don't) I'd be going towards a RARB!

If you patient enough, you will find a set of mk4 golf arms (aero style) on ebay or better still check out some local breakers, I bought my arms from a breakers on ebay and then bought some new bosch aerotwin blades, got the whole lot for about £50

weres the best place to buy the bosche blades from

These mk4 wiper arms... Presumably late mk4?

The ones I've seen are standard wiper fitment

Do the mk5 arms and blades fit?

Mk4 Golf aero arms work like a champ. I am not sure if the blade and arm lengths (or bends) are the same for mk5 golf wipers.

I fitted these about 3 years ago when there was a GB.They have gone up alot as i only paid less than £60 for mine.

Gmaster commented on mine @ CC and they do sit flusher to the windscreen than just the aero blades and also adds .00025 bhp (if fitted correctly).

I got mine at www.wiperblades.co.uk

Retro fit blades (vw):

http://www.vwspares.co.uk/g4body.php are £6.50 per side

They also sell the proper aero blades (but not the arms  )

I organised the GB, but I think the company we ordered from has ceased trading now.

been scouring ebay for the last month for a set of proper aero's myself (f**k paying vw 100 quid for a set), but got nowhere fast.

did a google search for specialist vw breakers instead and, 10 minutes worth of phoning later, got a set of proper oem mk iv golf aero wipers, complete with blades for £40 delivered from these guys:

HTH

These guys are really good, i drove down there to see them, really helpfull and decent guys

Tried the retro fits and wasn't impressed. Got some Mk4 Golf arms off eBay and did it properly with blades from wiperblades.co.uk - well worth the money.

Does anyone know if the arms from the later golf will fit without any hassle?
