Car vs Lorry

Featured Replies

There is actually a roundabout here where you can approach in the left hand lane, and go to the 3rd exit. I also have seen a driver not bother swinging round a mini-roundabout and went straight across on the wrong side forcing a driver on that side to get out of his way!!

Anybody on here live in Ayrshire? Did the A77 to Ayr today and it was all over the place with the roadworks for the M77, yet still nutters were doing 60+ in the 40 limit (one BMW driver drove up the outside lane doing 80+ to gain a few places cutting in on my bonnet as the hatching began then tailgating the Yaris that was doing 40 in the traffic queue! All that for 20 metres!). They did this past all the flowers at the roadside- that motorway can't come soon enough. People don't think enough....

Oh and if you live or need to travel near Ayr- take the train. The A77 is traffic light controlled and is one lane for both directions, traffic is horrendous, and people are going through the town centre as a diversion but the traffic there caused me to take 35 mins to do 1/3 of a mile.

I totally agree with you. also if people tried using their

indicators on roundabouts life would be a lot easier.

To hell with the remap' date=' I WANT SOME OF THEM BLUE LIGHTS.

What about a Briskoda group buy discount? ;)[/quote']

And preferably didn't indicate right while in the right hand lane, then come across to the left lane and go straight ahead, missing my front bumper and wing by inches, like a certain white Transit last night....

Huray I have my Octavia back at last, 3 weeks,

On the plus side the 1.7 TDCI engine is quite nice' date=' lots of tourque all the way through the revs and it red lines at 5000 rather than 45000[/quote']

45000rpm

What engine are you used to - a Tyne gas turbine? :D

I am biased as I'm Dutch - but one reason is obvious to me as far as WHY driving standards are rubbish. It's called driving instructors that have a pass rate below 30% (!!!!) being allowed to continue operating. Also, anyone over a certain age (I think it's 25, but I could be very wrong) and with 3 years or more driving experience can teach someone else how to drive.

As we all know - when you get taught how to drive, that's one thing. Once you've passed, you really learn... Also, what is this 'not allowed on the motorway until you've passed your test' rubbish. It means people are not used to driving at speed, taking triple-lane discipline into account...

Indicators - yeah I've seen some being used, but when you are going 80ish mph in a Rover 100 and some pr*t pulls out doing 70 mph, about 1.5 car lengths in front, without indicating or looking, chances are I will swipe that person off the road, and it would by MY fault for hitting the back of their car. Enough to make you very p*ssed..

Having been in the US for 3 months shows how it can be done in a different way, plenty of traffic, loads of cars, but most drive at similar speeds, don't cut people up, usually indicate, and generally the drive is less stressfull (and I don't just mean on their motorways, also in cities).

In London the R100 is not much fun to drive as you really have to floor it to join traffic with some form of safety margin. Driving in the UK is pretty aggressive, generally, and combined with poor driving skills, lack of turning lights on during rain, or fog lights off during non-foggy times ;) there is plenty of potential for big accidents.

A34 anyone?!!

There was nearly an accident in front of me on a roundabout in Birmingham tonight, same place as I saw another close call a few weeks ago. Must admit, I find the roundabouts here very confusing. Back home (N.Ireland) I don't think there are many roundabouts with more than four exits! Tackling the ones In Brum I feel like I'm putting life and limb at risk! Having witnessed two potential accidents, I don't think it's just me?
