Fab Vrs Rear brake noise when reversing?

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Myself and the bankmanager (The miss's) are wanting to get rid of the blooming slow vauxhall meriva we currently have, and get something with a bit more poke. Having sat in the FabVrs, we were very impressed, like the looks of it and the build quality seemed very good. In fact I was so impressed, that I was all geared up to order one this weekend. But then I read the posts this evening about the noise when reversing. It put me off a bit to be quite honest, :( not having a local dealer (26 miles away) I dont really want to be going back and forth with a problem like this. So, just how bad is this problem? Is it THAT loud? Is they really no fix? Are THAT many people experiencing it? What are Skoda UK doing about it?

Questions, questions, I just hope someone would be good enough to shed some light on this matter for me :)

Have fun

Chive.

Welcome to Briskoda. What you are worrying about is merely a noise (OK, a loud one sometimes), not a brake defect which affects car safety. It isn't unique to the Fabia and I believe a fix is being worked on. It wasn't all that long ago that most disc brakes squealed but that didn't stop people buying cars fitted with them. I don't own a Fabia vRS but I would have one like a shot if I could afford one. In the meantime I will just have to make do with my humble 4X4. :D

Its not a massive problem, its not like it shakes the ground or anything.

Skoda are working on a Fabia specific fix, and it will be a one time job. Do it once do it right.

Dont be put off by it, its such an insignificant thing, dont waste a great opertunity to have alot of motoring fun :)

Ours is in on the 8th Dec for that, will report success(or otherwise!!)

Ey welcome Chive. :)

Funny you should say that you've got a Meriva. My next door neighbour has got one, and it does exactly the same!

Sometimes think it's me reversing on to the path!

Mine can be really bad sometimes, but if it starts groaning, I simply use the handbrake to save any embarassment. Doesn't do it then for some mystical reason, and it's an intermittent fault anyway. Hasn't put me off ownership.

what is the noise??? my 3500 mile fabia has just started moaning in reverse - but.... at night i have now started parking in gear and handbrake off - it dont moan n e more - yipeee

my "driving improvement" instructor (yes i crashed) told me to park like that - breaks dont stick to disks in that way.

Is my Fab vRS the only one that does not have this noise? (by all means i am not complaining :D) If it did have it though i would not be too botherd as 95% of the time i drive fowards :D

as 95% of the time i drive fowards :D

;) So where exactly do you drive backwards for 5 miles every 100

just change the back pads for aftermarket pads and it fixes it. i should know i do a lot of reversing.

Tom.

It annoys me so much I have started reversing into the path at night so it doesnt do it each morning! Right about the handbrake too, only does it if the handbrake is on overnight or for a few hours so rust could be an issue as mentioned a while back. It gives the neighbours a chance to use the , well it is only a skoda....

It will take more than that to put me off though!

mine is sqwealling randomly stop doin a few weeks then started again

sometimes after start up sometimes after a long journey or short journey or 1st time reversing and after loads of reversing doesn't seem to have a patturn yet

took it to garage other day they hadn't a clue about it and said none of the fabia's they had do it

lets getta list up of ppl waiting for there noise to be sortedand probably there may be one person out there thats found a real pattern and can reproduce the noise when ever they want

;) So where exactly do you drive backwards for 5 miles every 100

:rofl: ok ill change my percentage to 99.8%

Just wait until ive fitted you new brakes Walkie, then they will prolly squeal ;)

Not pulling the handbrake on so hard when its left overnight has reduced the noise , which seems worse first thing in the morning. My first service is not due until about Aug. 2005 and I do not intend to take the car in to fix this problem , I would rather wait until a specific Skoda fix is available. Until this thread started I had not really thought about it for a while.

I've had the Fabia vrs since spring 2004 and now have some 11k miles on the clock, so far I have not had so much as a tsqueak out of the rear brakes.

The Fabia in all its various guises is a great package, as are Octavias and Superbs. Just a case of which vehicle meets your requrements :D

Welcome to briskoda

give it chance - you'll hear it.. ;)
