Featured Replies

Hi guys, thought id splash a bit of cash on the vrs...and since we have more daylight i have been cracking on with a few bits and bobs

Some mods might be "marmite" but i ove it and thats all i care about ;)

firstly i changed my Wishbones over with ball joints...made a world of difference :D

I then used the Flyeyeskit i read about on this forum

before

cable2boot.jpg

and i did the fronts aswell

for those interested in the spec

Intel atom d945gclf2 mini itx mobo

m2-atx

160gb hd

2gb DDR2 Ram

Windows 7 64bit

centrafuse 2 front end

Voom case

Double Din liliput touch screen (bezel need some work doing to it)

gps receiver,camera, wireless etc

oh an I can use 3g net by tethering it of my iPhone :)

Today i managed to get it all crammed in the case

The case acts like a big heatsink

b4421e7b.jpg

and a Hovis shot for people :D

4076a9dc.jpg

and a Heinz beans one too to show the height of the case

49565f1a.jpg

Then i moved on to stripping the Dash down. Nice double Din space

675eab6a.jpg

I then modified the Double Din frame to fit inside the space. That was as far i got on that front. i need to do some filling and sanding so i left that for today

a7d62527.jpg

i then moved onto giving the PC a Home in the boot. I opted to use the spare wheel well foam as its out of site + the foam will act as a shock absorber

Foam Before

51ee562b.jpg

and after some cutting the pc fits in perfectly

6fc50bda.jpg

i did have to trim some more to accommodate the ports

ba34aaf0.jpg

Since i want to control volume through my standard headunit, i had to relocate it.This will be going into theglove box

After some cuts/bruises/swearing..i managed to get the wiring loom free so its enough to plug into the headunit in the glovebox

This will be securely fastened once i get time to finish it

car as iv left it for today

c12da605.jpg

and then carpet hides everything

f3e0ea40.jpg

headunit in the glovebox - this is purely for speaker output

and the big switch on was this evening and im pleased to say it went without a hitch :D

the screen will now be smoothed in so it sits flush with everything else

Mate that is cosmic (my word of the day)

I take my hat off to you guys, ive seen someone do this before on a mk4 golf.

Looks brilliant

Wow that is awesome!

Have you thought about getting VAG-Com running on it, then you can leave it plugged into the OBD port all the time too?

thanks bud just something a little different

Just waiting on a chap to get back to me so i can get the screen properly flushed into the console for that OE look

just working on getting my In-Car camera setup

How much has that set you back by? I quite fancy a PC in the car, and would be a definite bonus to run vag-com on it. As I have an older serial cable it looks like that machine might do the trick..... Where have you mounted your PSU, I assume that is separate?

what about radio features? Is that provided by the original HU?

Looking good though :-)

Hi mate, the PSU is a m2-ATX which is a DC-DC powersupply made for automotive use

good place for bits is linitx.com or digital-car forums for used bits/advice

its only a small circuit board PSU

M2-ATX-HV.jpg

My PSU is mounted on the motherboard plate in my case (right hand side of the picture with 3 wires coming out of it)

3d413e64.jpg

only needs 3 wires to power it

1-Perma live

2-Switched Live

3-Earth

i bought everything used or had lying around so saved a fair chunk, i guess iv spent around £250 inc screen

I dont listen to the Radio, but i can turn the PC off and use the headunit as normal or a USB FM transmitter can be bought for the PC

(no idea how well it works)

hope that helps

Thanks Mate, fitted a camera in the front grill over the weekend which records automatically when the pc is running and configured to delete recording more then 3 days old. will post up a sample when i get time

I have got one of them cheap ebay VAGCOM leads which i use to check for error codes. im running windows 7 64bit ATM and VAGCOM is a pain to get it to work with that. ( i believe there is a new version out that is compatible with win7 but not tried it yet)

I may revert back to XP but il see how it goes with this

Also fitted my wireless adaptor so i can easily download songs to the car from my home network

CAR PC?!!1 OMG COOOOL :) :) if a little pointless ;)

does more or less the same a £600-£700 unit does at less then half of the price + the upgrading options on this is larger then a normal double din unit

here is the system in my old car

I`m liking that, proper good work! This is the first time I`ve seen the Fly Eyes kit, looks superb, question though, did you order 2 kits to do all, headlights/indicators/rear lights? Also, have you fitted the darker versions to yours I`m guessing?

how easy is the lamin x stuff to apply? especially around the curves of the lights

Apparently it goes around curves pretty well but i didn't mess around to be honest,i just applied it to the face and trimmed around as i thought it would be easier but once it's warmed with a hairdryer its pretty flexible stuff :)

did a few bits and bobs today

Fitted a rear camera into the Skoda badge

(still needs tidying up but you get the idea)

Also fitted a front on behind the mesh, so its hidden

Removed Badge - Nasty marks underneath it
