Quick question re top speed

Featured Replies

just been watching the top gear vid and clarkson mentions the vrs top speed being around 125 mph , similar to the coopers . My Vrs is an ex-fleet car and seems to top out at around 112-115mph , does that sound like there's been a limiter put on it ? cheers , Dan

Its the brick like shape I would think, it seems to run out of puff on a standard map at that sort of speed. I hit 135 on my speedo on the Nurburgring, showed a true 125mph on the satnav (more to come if the road was long enough).

My vrs is standard apart from better exhaust (that adds very little to it) and i've achieved 130mph.

Polish you car, it will make you go faster... seriousally.

You slip throught the air easyer.

According to the speedo i may once have allegedly quite possibly although if i am asked i will deny it (even in Court) quite possibly have done about 125-128 mph just to see what the top end was.

The maximum speed quoted in the Skoda Fabia Technical Data booklet dated 10.05 is 206 km/h, ie 128mph. I assume that is for the (later) BLT engine which was produced from 0.05 until 04.07.

Wouldn't that be out-weighed by the extra weight of the wax? :giggle:

I drove an early remapped one and it got up to 140mph on the speedo easily enough, still had some revs left from memory. Good old German roads! :)

No, not if you follow Mr Miyagi ‘wax on, wax off’

That's interesting, i had my 1.4 up to 120mph on the speedo - Just to see what the top end was. Of course, this was not undertaken on any roads with speed limits....Obviously the actual was much less, but still not too bad.emoticon-0144-nod.gif

My fabia is the first i`v had that i havent felt the need to go and see how fast i can go flat out for some reason. I`m just happy knowing its "fast enough". B) Thats not a dig at anyone trying by the way, and i dont hang about either, lol, every other car i`d go for a "run" to see what itd do, but not this time

Same here. I (allegedly) may have done in my 1981 1.0 Austin Metro an indicated 90 mph down hill with the wind behind me to see how fast it goes.

I've had a satnav indicated 134mph out of my VRS (pre-remap - but with the dragon tuning box) with full of passengers, with the boot full of luggage & a roofbox on

I'll upload a photo of the satnav for all the non-believers??

If you exceed the top speed doesn't it log a fault code in the ECU which voids warranty (if there's any warranty left)...

I don't feel the need to push my car to the limit either, happy knowing it's fast enough.

i had mine at 150mph on the clock on a runway as public roads are illegal past 60 as many of you may know :giggle::giggle: i dont know what actual speed i was doing but it was reading 150 on the clock

lol priceless put it up for the crack :giggle:

Ok - i'll get it out of the car and take a photo on the phone and get it uploaded!

I'd just like to mention I was over in Germany on an unrestricted section of the Autobahn just near my sisters house in Bonn

Did you mean on the actual Ring, or on the way to the Ring on a delimited autobahn?

If actually ON the ring where the hell did you manage to get up to 135mph indicated? I don't think I ever touched more than 120 maybe 125 down into Foxhole.

I have an October 04 version of the booklet that quotes the same speed.

It was indeed ON the ring. I hit that figure along the Kottenborn - Schwedenkreuz section. I only managed it through braking after the crest then into the left hander before Aremburg. It was definitely a true 125mph on the satnav, and I'm 99% sure it was reading 135 on the speedo, give or take - it was a quick glance! I remember that lap well as there were 6 accidents I counted on the way round, with a Cooper S buried in the barrier at Foxhole

GPS reading 138mph on the german autobahn de-restricted section

I find the mine a little un-composed at very high speeds if the "runway" I'm on is not ironing board flat. With passengers/luggage that you describe I wouldn't even entertain going that fast.

130 on the clock tonight when I nipped over to germany on the autobahn

Managed to get 110 mph (gps) on the ring long straight (with passenger) else where on a nice road I've had 138mph of the GPS. The 138 I think it could have had more to go but I was not brave enough to push more.
