DAB Radio

I'm another one that thinks DAB aint all that.

Being digital its an on / off situation going through different regions, towns etc.

When it goes off it can take a minute or more to come back - simply unnaceptable, switched back to FM quite quickly.

This was in a 59 pate A4 S-Line.

Hope it gets better, until it does I'll stick thank you.

I use a Pure Highway with external antenna in the Fabia. Generally excellent DAB reception wherever I go, have the occasional drop out but no worse than FM. Possibly the equipment in your Audi was not very good. Will be fitting a Pure Highway and antenna in the Octavia soon.

I had DAB in a Range Rover courtesy car I had for the last 3 months, I listen to 5 Live pretty much all of the time, the difference in quality is huge. I also found the NME station which was excellent for my music taste.

It's disappointment that DAB isn't in the Skoda range yet, i will have to make a Pure player my first purchase.

Sorry Drew, slightly off topic but sadly NME DAB is being pulled.

That's a shame, I liked that station!

Yes, me too. I normally hate commercial radio stations with thjeir constant ads and (usually) appalling DJs, but found this station by accident a while ago - up to then I'd been a regular R6 music listener, but actually prefered NME radio as while the music is quite simiuilar there are very few ads and actually few interuptions from DJs, and I often find a lot of the R6 DJs rather too 'precious' and retentive for my tastes. I assume the lack of ads is why its getting pulled though - and if R6 music isn't saved I really don't know what I'd bother wanting a radio for anyway...

Had a mustang retal in the US for a while a 18 months ago. It came with satellite radio (Sirius). there is not service in the UK as far as I know that compares. It was awesome. Sound quality was amazing and neve once (even in tunne) did it go out (it saves audio in case you go into a tunnel, then continues downloading when you get out).

So many stations to choose from too!

We tuned into a UK station most of the time so I didn't have to listen to that US drawl!

I am also looking at DAB radio options for my 2009 octavia. Is the only option to have an extra box on my dash, plugged into stereo ? What do people recommend ? Can the existing standard radio/cd be replaced ?

(imho DAB is great, better quality, more stations and easier to "tune").

When we were looking for a new car, and considering buying a new Octavia, or Superb, I wanted DAB fitting and was also disappointed to it wasn't available.

As it was, we bought a 7 month old Octavia SE, and I was wondering about modules/etc...to retrofit DAB.

I've got used to having it in the house, mainly for '6 Music', with 'Radcliffe & Maconie' and 'Tom Ravenscroft'

Therefore, I'll certainly be keeping an eye on threads like this

There's this one which I think is the same as the one above, but not certain as I couldn't get the other link to work properly!

Sorry but radio, ugh. Just listen to some mp3s, its always music you like and no eejits to wind you up, or better still listen to the music of the engine. :)

Well I hate to admit it, but I've got DAB radios at home & they're constantly locked to either BBC R2 or Gold, with all of the sixties & seventies stuff.

If they can provide me with DAB coverage without having wires dangling all over the place & it's done discretely then when I have a new car I'll probably have it.

Yeah but looking at the it doesnt mention the Columbus as an option.....plus you can only change channel via the steering wheel controls.

My Octy seems to have all the toys....apart from a multi function wheel

Just noticed that the Columbus is now listed as an option on the AutoDAB website. Does anyone have any first-hand experience of this particular product (it looks like I'd need the DAB-SK1 version).
