Colours / Fuel Economy / Sunroof / Towing!

Currently have an Octavia vRS which I am pleased with.

Thinking about a Yeti 170 Elegance.

Does anyone have one in Pacific Blue they could post a picture of?

I currently get 45 - 50mpg solo out of my 170 CR Octavia (mid to high 20's towing 1300Kg) - what do Yeti owners get from the 170?

Views on the optional sunroof would be appreciated too!

All my previous Skodas have had towing brackets fitted by a local specialist prior to collection from the dealer (West End Skoda in Broxburn btw), any Yeti owners gone down this route or have you all stuck to the Skoda bracket? Would prefer a fixed bracket (have a Brink currently) and need 13 pin electrics with power for fridge, battery charger and ALKO ATC stability system.

Thanks in advance!

Currently 250 miles into ownership I am getting 47 - 51 mpg solo, with a mix of town driving, decent major roads and 1-in-4s and 5s in this hilly region. I am well pleased, but I AM driving like an old fart!

I will drive about 200 mil (1242,74 mile) before I start towing my caravan .

All 4x4 Yeti is delivered in Sweden with Westfalia detachable towbar

I am a bit concerned about the height of the tow bar (49 cm) Should be 5 cm lower.

Will return with report.

I think you will find that the measurement should be taken with the load on the towball, you may find you are within the legal limits then.

Best colour is obviously Tibetan White...emoticon-0105-wink.gif

My SM is averaging 42-43mpg on the Maxidot which trues out to 39-40mpg (normal proviso that nothing is accurate to more than 5% be it mph or mpg or odometer). Driving is mixture of A and B roads and town with the odd decent trip at speed. Tonight's trip was 100 miles on A roads and the M50, averaged 48mph for the trip and 46.5mpg on the Maxidot. My Fabia vRS averaged 47mpg (true) on the same sort of journeys so perhaps 10% worse with the YETI but may improve now we're in the warmer temperatures and with 5000 miles plus under its paws.

Sunroof is brilliant although not cheap and rumoured to increase delivery time. With the warmer weather I've had it fully open and in tilt mode. Great to drive and let any heat out of the car and hear the birds sing...! Not very noisy or buffety when open, especially below 60mph. Any time of year the extra light that comes in through the roof (closed) is wonderful. Creaks for 3 miles or so in the middle of winter with a heavy frost on it then silent as a silent thing. Blind closes automatically when the interior gets cold, not convinced it does it when it gets hot yet!

I had the factory towbar prep and then the Skoda (Westfalia) removable towbar fitted by Allams (my supplying dealer). Very neat job (bumper hole and blank is part of the towbar prep) and I think the jury is still out on what you get for your money and how much installers charge to fit a towbar varies considerably. I think many quote for the job without knowing what is entailed - especially the hole cut/blanking plate installation on non-towbar prep cars. (Edit to add, not had a chance to tow anything yet!).

No, you are wrong. It should be between 35-42 cm at gross vehicle weight rating. Aprox. 450 kg. (4 people in the car. But you will not be down to 45cm.) No weight on the towbar.

I talked to Westfalia distributor in Sweden, Skoda does not follow standard 94/20/CE. It´s a problem

Thanks all - will check out the videos.

Regarding tow ball height - I did notice the Yeti tested in Practical Caravan the other month seemed to have a high ball, as the 'van they were towing rode nose up. The 'van was exactly the same as mine (dealer special based on a Swift Charisma 230) so that would be a concern - I would presume the test car would have been supplied by Skoda with a Skoda bracket. Something to check.

It's a blue one tested in these two videos.

Sorry but I think the Yeti in the videos is Storm Blue like mine, the only Pacific Blue one I've seen in the flesh looked a very dark, inky blue.

Thanks Helgestahill. I will be delighted if mine ends up like yours. I am also 49 cm with no weight in Yeti and after 2800 kms. GB

See what you mean, a couple of cm lower would make a difference. Maybe with some load in the boot you'' be just about there. The Brink fixed bracket on my vRS is quite low, meaning the 'van tows rather nose down, but stability is perfect. Apart from that how did you find towing your Adria with the Yeti?

Maybe we should make an appeal to Skoda and ask why they do not follow 94/20/CE concerning the height of the tow bar

It seems to me the simple solution is a lower hook/ball component from Westfalia. At the same time, they could add the required connection to the break-away wire that is also required by Law, but not provided by the hitch.
