UGH This engine cover is AAAH

Featured Replies

Believe me, I did a thorough search through briskoda and google with absolutely no luck. I have a Fabia 2000 1.4 16v, and i want to access the airbox, which is apparently housed under this engine cover thing. So i pull, and pull hard, and pull and pull more, no luck. Cover isn't coming out.. I take a closer look, there seem to be these screws around, i loosen four behind, two on the right, and there's one on the left which there is no way i can loosen (can't fit the screwdriver there). Am i going on a tangent? I've tried pulling and i'm just tired like i had a tough workout in the gym <grr> :dull:

Please help!!

Any pics of the engine bay in question?

Thats the screw where the screwdriver won't fit (if im in the right direction to open the cover of course)

One of the other five, which i have successfully managed to loosen up

Side view of the engine.. seems like the cover is hinged? Probably means it won't come out as a unit entirely?

Thanks again!

Have you tried taking the Oil cap off 1st and then pulling the cover off? I've seen that before on other cars not sure on this engine though.

just tried! no luck :(

No need to remove filler cap!

No need to remove screws!

The screws you are undoing hold the air filter, but you need to take the whole cover off first (there are lots more you can't see)

Just grab it and pull upwards, it is held by rubber grommits on metal posts - they might be stuck so pull hard and put some silicone grease on them before reassembly.

Five years of hitting the gym to no use. Pulled again! Didn't budge.. Guess i'll take it to a workshop and have them try their luck

I had the same trouble initially - you really just need to have the confidence to just give it a good pull and pull the whole black plastic engine cover off - no need to remove oil filler cap (which gets left behind), only the oil breather hose next to the coolant expansion tank as it enters the air box. The whole engine cover just push-fits onto four points on the top of the engine. I'm not sure what the screws you've undone are about., but I'd put them back! Once you've got the cover off, the screws on the underside of the air box are obvious and you have to unscrew all of these - around 10 in all. to remove the plastic moulding which draws air off the exhaust and the air filter area. When you've got it apart, it is a good idea to give the breather hose that runs along the back of the air box a thorough clean with carb cleaner. Good luck!

Okay! I'll try again once my hands are a little less sore :D Thanks for the info!
