fifteen quid can of bmw "sparkling graphite" off ebay, 20 mins of fiddling about and here we are:

Needs another coat tbh (rattle can only JUST not quite big enough) then a coat of lacquer to make them shiny to match the wheels.

Comments? GOod, Bad? hate?

:p

It looks like a base spec , now if they were brushed Aluminium?

Brushed aluminium for me too.

High Gloss black they need to be........................mine will be when funds allow!

Looks better than your wheels ;)

I think you've just ruined your mirrors in my opinion, seriously.

As long as you like it, that's what really matters though. Thisis the kind of mod I would expect to see on a 4 or 5 year old car, not a car as new as yours!

Makes car look old like MK1 ish, its new so those sorts of mods dont suit.

Taxi?

Honestly, I think I'd had had a play with vinyl or something.

Still you can put them back to candy white easily enough I guess.

Looks like you've been to a scrappy for a replacement!

Maybe if they matched the wheels?

I am not keen on black wheels either to be honest.

I'm up for the odd mod or two but I think there is something out of place here. It may be that because white is such a strong colour that any changes such as black wheels / mirrors are so noticable. I completely disagree with the "brushed mirrors brigade" - things like that have no place on the outside of a car. Interior trim yes but mirrors? Oh dear! Just because they once did it to an A3 doesn't make it right.

I was toying with black wheels on my black car but I've just seen a Leon and it looked awful so I'm gonna stick with standard!

I think your car with silver wheels and white mirrors looks just right but then again, its not my car and if you like it then what the hell. Good on you for taking a stance and trying something different emoticon-0148-yes.gif

they remind me of my nova SR that I had 20 years ago with dark grey wing mirrors - and trust me thats not a good thing!!!!!

Damn - even if i take the "likes" and the "don't cares" together i still dont have enough votes for a clear majority lol!

Thanks for the comments chaps:

Aluminium - sorry, no way my car is going to be an audi wannabe (er, don't mention my audi gear nob..)

Dodgy - not sure why you think is ok only to mod somthing thats old? I mean, my wheels, springs, shocks, aerial, gear knob are all done frome new already.. ? All swappable back to stock very easily too.

GriffoVRS: actually they DO match the wheels or more accurately they will once i've got a clearcoat on the top. Its the same BMW colour - maybe the pic does not do it justice. Crappy camera - looks much better in the metal - honest!

Fraserpants: Nova SR, hey they were cool in the day.

To conclude the argument and show "dislikers" why you're wrong, please peruse the following and dare to say these are not the dogs!:

The dark mirrors dont look right to me :x But it your car so if you can live with it go for it. The black wheels on a white car do look good.

If they match then so much better. As you say it is hard to tell on the photo. However, I am still not a fan of overly dark/black wheels, although I did have graphite coloured alloys on my Honda Accord Type S, but it took me about a year to get used to them!

I actually think they look OK, and definitely better than brushed silver would. Although I've had RSs where aluminium has been the default, I've always selected body colour (possibly even paid for it too - can't remember). A contrasting painted option is interesting and I remember first thinking it was OK watching the BTCC Lagunas of the 90's. My allroad has oversized (read vulnerable) mirrors, so they've been fitted with unpainted (yes - primer grey is a colour) sacrificial mirror caps as Audi no longer make folding mirors that fold in when travelling towards transit vans (you have to stop to fold them!). Thankfully Skodas are far more sensible - they just need a "black optic" option to sort the bonnet out at build.

Going to paint mine 3M Bodyguard grey/black when the inevitable happens...

Looks good mate I've been waiting for some one to do this on a white facelift vrs , why don't you do the front grill as well in the same colour . I like to see a bit of individuality keep up the good work !

Personally, I think they suit it :)
