No panoramic sunroof

900000, I'm not suggesting for one minute that they take a Tiguan sunroof and install it into a Yeti, what I AM suggesting is that as VW have a plentiful; supply of raw glass, to pass some of the supply to Skoda in order for them to fulfil their order books.

It's called 'stock balancing' .

And yes, it has been reported to be by a Skoda dealer that the problem is a shortage of raw glass and is slowing production down. No mention was made relating to another component or product within the sunroof configuration.

Things are moving, possibly! I have a build week for my Yeti, complete with sunroof.

The car was originally ordered on April 10th with a projected delivery for the end of June. Two weeks later the dealer telephoned to tell me of the sunroof problems. I was given the option of removing the sunroof from the order and getting the care more quickly, or leaving the order and sit out the wait, but with no estimate of a build week.

I decided to leave the sunroof on the order and re-evaluate if necessary over the summer. I then got a call last week (13th May) letting me know that the build week was 32 (2nd week in August) and that it should be ready to collect in September (new registration plates).

Phew Yetinother that is a HUGE relief! My dealer again today did nothing and said she will let me know "in a few days". Grrr. But since I ordered a week before you all should be well and we both get 60 plate cars with sunroofs so that is fine by me waiting that tiny bit extra.

Are you joking, or being serious ?

What is "raw glass" ? Sand ?

If I meant sand, I would have said sand.

Sorry, what I mean by 'raw glass' is glass ready to be smelted and made into the sunroof glass.

Hope that clears it up and sorry to all who were confused by the term 'raw glass'.

I just didn't know what else to call it haha.

Im no expert in glass so am probably wrong, but would have thought Arvinmeritor probably have the glass sent to them ready to be installed in the roof assembly and not prepare the glass themselves as that is probably a specialist process

I guess anyway ???

Just a few thoughts about this problem...

1) Is it really a SUK decision? I suspect that it will be affecting other Skoda distributors as well.

2) Are Superb estates still being offered with a panoramic sunroof?

3) I would have expected VAG to have central purchasing for items like this, and so any shortage could be due to them protecting VW supplies rather than Skoda. (Their policy in offering the new VAG engines would seem to bear this out, and similar sunroofs are offered in the Golf estate and Tiguan.)

4) The VAG bosses have recently been explicilty quoted as being concerned that Skoda was taking sales from VW - even in Germany where the new Superb has been taking sales from the soon-to-be-replaced Passat.

5) VWUK have just created a Golf Match to improve its specs and value for money (but it still can't beat a Skoda Yeti Elegance!)

6) Are Skoda being forced to limit the options on their cars to avoid competing too strongly with VW??

The sunroof is a very powerful motivator for me to change from my Octavia. If it isn't being offered then I'll just sit back in my present car and wait until it is. (Or start thinking about a MINI Countryman????)

Good points - perhaps also a way of reducing waiting lists, if people decide to go elsewhere instead.

If the golf match had been around when I opted out of my company car and got the Yeti, I would have been a lot more tempted - especially with the now £350 Dynaudio option !

..,and you can fit snowchains...

1. It's down for them to fix.

2. Superb estates are affected as well.

3. Skoda and VAGis the SAME company.

4. Why did they buy Skoda then????

5. There has now just been released a Tiguan Match, NO sunroof shortages.

6. We're not even considering VW so they will have shot themselves in the foot if this is true, and I'm sure trading standards will be interested in this!!!

Thanks for your thoughts Chris :smirk:

Ahh I love a good conspiracy theory lol

Complicated politics aside and not doubting that at the moment Skoda cars are simply better than VW's in build and spec, I still find it hard to believe they would shoot their own brand in the foot even if its not their own baby, its still their sales portfolio.

It is certainly an unusual situation bearing in mind that nobody else seems to be having a problem like this, and maybe the facts will come out sooner rather than later to ensure damage limitation to the brand name.

Anyway sunroof or not I would still have a Skoda than a VW !!

Oh I know, I know! emoticon-0140-rofl.gif I'm just upset about all of this. I'm not dragging them to court just yet as I know they'll weasel out of it somehow. The goodwill gesture I suspect will have to come from SUK at the end of the day and won't (ever) come from the dealer.

And it should come from SUK, they're responsible for the UK specification and scheduling production for the UK with Skoda.

Just got back from work...

SUK are not interested in customer service at all and don't seem to care that they're losing sales as a consequence.

The brand director of Skoda Uk is Robert Hazelwood [email protected] so lets all tell him how poor they are as a company and how many sales they are loosing.

I will pop into Nissan tomorrow morning a give my £10,500 deposit to them for a new Cashqai.

Robert Hazelwood didnt even extend the courtessy of a reply, well STUFF him and Skoda :moon:

Hope your dinner gets burnt to a crisp tonight haha

I don't think Robert will lose too much sleep over this somehow. The order book for Yetis is overflowing - that's exactly why they're in this situation. I think I read somewhere that Skoda were expecting to shift about 3.5 thousand units a year in the UK and they've done that in the first quarter.

I think what is happening is a temp embargo on sunroofs until the backlog is cleared, then it will return. Personally I would wait rather than get a Nissan bland mobile, they are just not the same, but I understand the anger at the situation.

This sunroof issue is no different to the supply v demand problems last year with the 1.4TSI engine. Manufactures sometimes underestimate the likely demand for a product.

Just happens to be the Monster this time round and in particular with a Velux roof. Nice piece of kit, particularly for rear seat passengers but I could not justify the cost myself.

Quite happy with my 'tin' roof emoticon-0100-smile.gif and PAT's a better drive and has more internal space than the Nissan from my test drive experience emoticon-0103-cool.gif

Sorry all, I'm getting bored with this thread.

Not sure why it's the fault of Skoda UK if high demand for the Yeti, presumably in all markets not just the UK means that one particular optional component is in short supply.

I'm sure this issue will be resolved but these things happen.

Here, here! All this talk of suing and Watchdog and all because the car has proved to be such a sales success both in the UK and Europe. I am sure Skoda are not exactly delighted to be potentially losing sales but sometimes supply and demand do not balance out.
