Headlight angle

Featured Replies

OK, I know I should read the manual but I always seem to forget. What is the correct setting for the headlights angle? I must confess I've just done it as guess work, but it seems for me that if you have it on the number 3 setting it does not bother other people, but I struggle to see very far ahead. I think sort of between 2 and 3 is the best for visibility while not upsetting too many folks however there was still one gimpoid last night who was madly flashing his rear fogs when I was behind him, so in return I gave him a retina burning display of full beam which made him stop :)

So am I using the right setting, whats the official setting? If it is #3 then its not effective at lighting the road IMO. If you have it on #2 or especially #1 it really seems to upset people (probably blinding).

I thought setting 1 was the correct setting and the rest are to level out if there is alot of wait at the rear/towing. I dont seem to upset anyone, well atleast not with my lights!

I think I'm going to have to check the manual after all. Thing is I'm fairly certain I tried setting one, and I was getting flashed all the time.

Then your headlight alignment isnt correct.

Headlights should be set at the correct height with a beam setter at position '-'

Then the lights can be dropped with the switch if you load the car up.

Is "-" a position on the dial thingy? I can only remember seeing numbers on it...

"-" is the one up from "1" ;) And my car didn't go through an MOT unless the beam setting was on "-" :D - on "1" or any lower it failed the beam test. :)

the dial thingy

Is that a technical term? :P

The gadget thingemebob surely is the correct tech term for it :D

Nope - definitely a "doofler" in my dictionary! ;)

failing that, a thingemejig would be adequate. :P :D

I believe it's actually called a "doobrie"

Hope this helps :)

usually for me, its just a "helps point the rallye bulbs in a better direction button" :D (from "3" to "-" ;))

LOL @ you lot

I'll check for the - thingymebob when I go back :D

Ahh but Jason, your "doobrie" needs to be upside down for correct alignment ;)

But jasons goes fro '-3' to '_' to '+3' :D

:finger: :P

Reminds me - not had that piccie promised to me ages ago! :grumpy:

The thing with jason it depends at the time which way up he is......... :nurse:

On the other hand di he just forget to replace the cover on the back of the lamp????

My thingyma-jig is on 0  No wonder I couldn't see bugger all.....will go and adjust it at once. God you guys are grrrrrrrrrreat

I use the 3 for a 'Town' setting and the "-" for 'Country' = max range. Exercise the motors now and again so they adjust to the full extent.

Well I've now got it on the "-" setting, and it does look to me as if it will upset a few people, but quite frankly dear, I dont give a damn! :D

If its to high on the - setting then get your headlamps adjusted.

Thats the thing, my visibility is so much better on that setting, I'll see how it goes for a bit...

I think when the beam is on "-", the beam (on the level) probably extends about 30m? However, when going uphill and downhill sometimes this beam can be shining into oncoming cars (I've been flashed too, and given a sharp flash of the rallye bulbs to assure them I AM on dipped beam ;)) I normally run around town on "3" - the beam probably only reaches about 6 or 7m in front of the car, but then I want to be seen, not needing to actually light my way. :D In the country, as mentioned above, setting the beam to "-" and flicking the main beam on gives a nice spread of light!

You guys are just making it difficult to get the right tech terms

Annoyingly I can't think of the right Dutch term for it as I have been in the UK for too long, mwhwuahahaha :D

Speaking of lights - shameless plug to get my question answered

There are other ways of adjusting lights using such fine tools as :smashfrea

I generally leave mine on 1 all the time, however, I noticed that people flash you no matter what these days. Too many people around with a chip on their shoulder. However, I find no people complain when I had all-weather bulbs in my fabia. Yellow tint works wonders.

I only set lights to - on motorways, oxfordshires back roads etc.

Regards,

To be honest since I've had mine on "-" nobody has flashed me. And since the higher the number after that the more it points down, it seems strange to me since they are clearly higher up now than ever before. On the plus-side, my visibility is no longer so poor in the dark.
