Cheap for a REAL vRS?

Featured Replies

Reason for sale' date='[/color']

A change in circumstances forces sale. I bought it from the owner and have not yet registered it. Its still one registered owner on the log book.

Nothing to set the alarm bells ringing then...

Yeh, and what REALLY scares me is the PRICE (alongside the dubious nature of its ownership  ). That car is roughly along the lines of mine in Spec, but I paid

What do you guys reckon I was looking at getting a cheap vrs for a trackday car now that I've sold mine. It looks to cheap though ???

Well - it is Y reg (3 years + old) and nearly 70k to the good, so not sure the price is too low at all really - I'm just suspicious of the circumstances thing, lack of V5 in seller's name, and the fact the seller is Cornish (no offence to Cornish peeps ;))

My response would feature the words "away" and "run"

Can't get to it now... "page not responding"... ???

Wasn't there also something about the seller going on about not wanting solicitors involved? Sounds distinctly fishy...

The page seems to be working ok, but it does sound a bit fishy. Probably worth a trip to have a look though, if its not too far.

Mines a Y reg, with 25k on it, cost me

Its so fishy, it smells worse than the fish counter @ tesco's.

Dreamers need not apply, obviously...

"I dont like the threats of solicitor actions and bad feed back etc but please if you dream about owning such a car please keep your dreams to yourself and leave me out of it. "

10ft Bargepole........... :jab:

That's a very brown looking bargepole, Javaman. Has it got something on it? :D

only from poking that dodgy vRs......... :P

worth a look, Hpi check it if your serious about it. log book does sound a bit dodgy.

Who says it's not a genuine bargain? The mileage is a bit on the high side and it might not be in the best condition but I'd have a look if I was in the market and it was close to home.

Shame there's no pictures though as you can learn a great deal from the type of area the car is in and therefore the type of condition it might be in.

Go for it Jason and report back on what you find out...

edited: I see piccies have now been added. The bloke next door has a conservatory so must be a posh as fook area :D

Well he hasn't got THAT much to hide - he's posted its pics complete with number plate - easy to run a check on it. The initial stage of Carwatch's check confirms it's an Octavia RS. Other than that, treat it with the same caution as any secondhand car - the previous owner's name will be on the V5 - get in touch with them if you have doubts, etc.

who says he lives there?

and i thought mine was cheap,i did have some reservations and kenny was a member on here, hpi check and a few phone calls and i got myself a bargain.they are out there.its not yours till you pay for it so check check and check again .approach with caution but theres bugger all to say it ain't genuine

Who says he doesn't? :D

If you look for previous things bought and sold on ebay by this guy, you'll notice that he sells car parts and recently bought a kit for his air compressor including a spray gun!! Could be a repairer selling on a insurance write off.

which should come up on hpi ????

There's more than enough in that ad to ring loud warning bells - including the price, and maybe the tow bar too which doesn't quite fit the sporting image. And mention of the Audi engine braking system from the TT series - aka ASR - is a bit OTT. Assuming the car is 'straight', surely he must be a dealer if he hasn't registered the car in his own name?

Not if he didn't go through an insurance company. I was told about a local guy who spun his Punto Sporting badly and he didn't have any insurance, so his mate did the work for him (apparently badly) and it was only the fact that he was trying to get rid of the car cheaply that the truth came to light. If he tried to sell the car at the current value, some poor would have bought it. But this Octy may be genuine cheap car but do your homework first.
