Need more seats what about a Vauxhall Zafira GSI Turbo?

Featured Replies

As question above. Does anyone have one or experience with one. What is the tuning potential and are they attractive to scumbag thieves? How much power can you get through the front wheels (tuning wise) before it get dangerous. I want a fast, nice 7 seater so I guess this is the best choice...right? What about insurance wise? You see there may be an Aaquil junior on the way!!!

Any input will be appreciated.

Aaquil.

(psst, Audi A6 estate, 2.7TT, 305bhp after remap, seven seat option :D)

It's a van with a nice engine...but it's still a van... :D

BTW, do you really need an MPV with 7 seats? Contraception is a more favourable option... ;)

Rob.

Must admit Aaquil, I've looked at the SRi version..looks very similar with all the same spec, but with the 2.0 litre diesel lump in it I think.

Looks particulary nice in that electic blue metallic they do. Remapable too I suppose.

The seating arrangement is very clever with those back seats folding into the floor.

Be aware though..new Zafira coming out ..next year I think..so might be worth hanging on if you want a new one..may come down in price to shift the old models.

The A6 options likely to be v. attractive to scumbags and if he needs seven seats, i don't think the running costs of it would be too palatable.......

would be nice though......

The vauxhall - blurgh. It's still a vauxhall, and as C.J points out, new one due "soon", which, if Aaquil jnr is on the way, you might be able to last out till it appears.....

Are you serisouly after something fast with 7 seats, or just something capable of taking seven bod and accompanying gear? How much boot space is left with the 7 seats in place in the Zafira?

I can't help myself but think stupid things like Nissan X-Trail or Patrol, Toyota Landcruiser Amazon...........

but they do cost a fair bit more..........Patro lwith 7 seats is 31K.....

A good mate of mine has a 250 odd bhp Courtenay tuned Zafira GSi, very nice indeed.

And heres another one, not quite so modded engine wise but very nice.

I wouldn't mind one, but, had one as a loan car and just couldn't get comfortable in it, driving position was all wrong for me :( Might be worth a look at a Touran?

Touran is only five seats though, not really any advantage over an Octy/Golf etc.

Dont Seat offer a tuned/sport version of the Alhambra??

I know they have the pd130 or poss 150 lumps in them.

I did follow one of these things a little while back. It sure was rapid and looked to be handling very well without leaning too much.

They do a 130PD Alhambra, my advice would be dont touch one with a barge pole...lol.

Engine's fine, its what its bolted to is a nightmare.

In what way?

Care to elaborate as my Bro is looking at them

Two years at a SEAT dealer and you learn to hate them.

a/c problems (condensors leak from the built in dryer)

Electrics are a nightmare, random faults all over the place.

Usual SEAT build quality

Secondary heaters that set themselves alight (lots of smoke from under the n/s/r)

To name but a few.

But arent all the VW group badged versions built under the same roof?? Surely they must all suffer the same problems?

Yep, Alhambra, Sharan and Galaxy suffer the same faults.

All built by SEAT at the same plant.

Being discontinued shortly.

Yes arent they all going to be based on the new T5 platform, but with a mid section removed?.

drove a zafira turbo at millbrook and was very impressed with it but:

I've a company car and all the vauxhall turbo engines have very high (compared with the vRS) emissions and a high list price that make them a very expensive option for comany car drivers.Apart from that the car I drove was well built, comfortable ,went very well and made some very nice noises :D

Touran was mentioned - also tried that and was not impressed....no interesting engines,design/layout uninspiring and quite honestly -the vauxhall felt better built and the materials better quality

now the RS6.....drool,drool

finally must agree with Rob....better get to a good contraceptive :o

We've got a Touran 2.0 tdi sport.

Same engine as new Octavia.

Has 7 seats. Does just over 40 to the gallon on average.

Can be superchipped - see superchips

As you can see from this, out of the box had 156, went up to 185hp.

Well built, handles well with optional sport suspension, cruise, climate etc etc.

We've got 6spd manual - would like it try it with DSG. Quite a few people have compared it to a big cooper s!

Has 7 seats

I stand corrected then, dont think the Altea does, or maybe its an option.

zafira GSi is an awesome car. i know someone that has one and is just started to mod it.pushing out abt 240 at the mo i could say maybe 280 for a safe level so the thing is stupidly fast.

240-250 bhp is the max on the std turbo.

Wow, that's what I call responses. By the way this will only be number 2 kid and that will be where it stays! However, my mum-in-law (she is well cool) and sister in law (well cool as well but don't tell her!) spend a lot of time with us and the wife, her sister, her mum, me and my son just manage in the current car...another bambeeno and well could be pushing it car seats an' all.

Thanks for all the responses...so I take it that's a thumbs up for the Zafira?

ROSS

Your mate where is this place where he got the mods and what amount of money did it involve? What do you think of his Zafira have you been in it?

Aaquil.

I have been in Matt's Zafira quite a few times, its alot better since the last remap he had. Courtenays a long standing Vauxhall tuner has just got theire own rolling road set up and writing thier own code, very smooth torque for a petrol.

www.courtenaysport.co.uk

He has spent alot of money over a time,

Courtenay Rolling Road Re-Map

Courtenay Pre-Cat Pipe & 200 Cell Sports Cat

Full Milltek Cat back Exhaust system

Courtenay Front Mounted Intercooler

Higher Temp rated plugs

K&N Panle Filter in Oiginal Air Box

Vectra C Induction Pipes

Cool Running Thermostat (For towing reasons, I think a waste of time normally TBO)

Always run a minimum of BP Ultimate or Optimax

Result 260bhp / 264.5 lb/ft

What's the handling like and how do the mods translate into 0-60 times. Can he get all the power down without loads of wheelspin?

He's running 18's and Bilstein dampers and handling is pretty good, very stable.

Not sure on 0-60's its not really what hes into.
