First year service costs - VRS CR170

Featured Replies

Chaps, about to put my car into a Skoda dealers near to wear I live for its first year service, have done 6550 miles from last June when I got the LE, I got the car with delivery milage. Just wondering what sort of costs this service has cost at various Skoda dealers. Your views are welcome chaps.

I was quoted £280 odd for my first service at my local Skoda dealership, have been quoted £165 at my local VAG specialist.

It should come with long life oil from the factory and the first service should be at around 18k - 20k or 20 months whichever sooner if i remember correctly. I have just done 17k and have just had my first service but that was even before the service indicator came on. Check what your service interval is i.e whether you have long life oil and if so save your money.

Incidentally it works out cheaper if you source your own oil.

Simpsons have just relieved my credit card of £175 for mine today. Long life setting and around 20k on it, almost two years old. Not bad on a bi-annual basis.

I'll be quite happy if mine is that price in December

Not sure where they got £100/ corner for front tyres though. I didn't take them up on that kind offer....

Non-branded presumably  Could buy Sessantas from Camskill for that (when they have them in stock)

Depending on what tyre it is, that's potentially not a bad price. My Vredsteins were about £90 each including delivery, and then there's a fitting charge (unless your next door neighbour works at Kwik Fit and in which case the fitting charge is a box of beer). I was looking at 130-140 a corner for Michelins PS3s...

Paul, just been informed that my service will be £180 (got this down to £163) tad shocking when I see a work colleagues brand new Golf GTI 2.0 Petrol being charged at an official VW dealership @ £118 nearby (not the same group). Anyway also had the corker of news that my discs and brake pads need replacing! Not bad for a 7500 mile car!, Now off to speak to customer care about the discs and warranty*. Don't mind pads, but discs on a 7500 mile car.

* any views on warranty lads?

Disks, at all?

I put 30K on an 06 Elegance (55K I sold it with)

and

50K on an 06 Ibiza FR (60K Sold that one) and never had disks or pads changed.

wtaf.

Yep, discs and pads old chap. I have had shuddering when braking for the last couple of months, I just assumed pads. Also assumed as wear and tear not part of warranty but discs going wrong at 7500?, hmmmmmmmmmmmm not impressed.

I would certainly be bringing out the old 'fit for purpose' argument on them......

Any tips Hersch on what I should be saying appreciated. Dealer is discounting cost of pads & discs due to milage, £280 - down to £220. Also dealing with Skoda Customer care.

I got a letter today from Skoda offering 2 years fixed price servicing for £299 (2 years or 20000 miles whichever comes sooner). It is from Skoda Finance ("signed" by Head of Customer Marketing) but does not say you have to have finance to take part (I got the 0%) in the offer so might be worth checking. Sounds better value than £280 for a single service. Call your dealer and ask, no harm in asking.

If you're on variable servicing you can get around 20,000 miles between services so it sounds like they're potentially offering 1 service for 300 quid - doesn't sound like much of a bargain to me!

how about this: -

Subject:

Sale of Goods Act, Faulty Goods.

Relevant or Related Legislation:

Sale of Goods Act 1979. Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982. Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994. The Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002.

Key Facts:

• Wherever goods are bought they must "conform to contract". This means they must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality (i.e. not inherently faulty at the time of sale).

• Goods are of satisfactory quality if they reach the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking into account the price and any description.

• Aspects of quality include fitness for purpose, freedom from minor defects, appearance and finish, durability and safety.

• It is the seller, not the manufacturer, who is responsible if goods do not conform to contract.

• If goods do not conform to contract at the time of sale, purchasers can request their money back "within a reasonable time". (This is not defined and will depend on circumstances)

• For up to six years after purchase (five years from discovery in Scotland) purchasers can demand damages (which a court would equate to the cost of a repair or replacement).

• A purchaser who is a consumer, i.e. is not buying in the course of a business, can alternatively request a repair or replacement.

• If repair and replacement are not possible or too costly, then the consumer can seek a partial refund, if they have had some benefit from the good, or a full refund if the fault/s have meant they have enjoyed no benefit

• In general, the onus is on all purchasers to prove the goods did not conform to contract (e.g. was inherently faulty) and should have reasonably lasted until this point in time (i.e. perishable goods do not last for six years).

• If a consumer chooses to request a repair or replacement, then for the first six months after purchase it will be for the retailer to prove the goods did conform to contract (e.g. were not inherently faulty)

• After six months and until the end of the six years, it is for the consumer to prove the lack of conformity.

and

Q1. What is an inherent fault?

A fault present at the time of purchase. Examples are:

• an error in design so that a product is manufactured incorrectly

• an error in manufacturing where a faulty component was inserted.

The "fault" may not become apparent immediately but it was there at the time of sale and so the product was not of satisfactory standard.

I would suggest to you that you quote the Sale of Goods Act at them, informing them that the brake discs were not "fit for purpose" as they only lasted 7500 miles!!!

To put this into perspective, my 330d, which apparently goes through discs (according to Honest John) more frequently than most cars of a similar size/build quality, lasted 37k before the rear pads needed replacing, at 54k i had the front pads and discs done, then at 68k the rear pads and discs.

Seriously chief, 7500 is disgraceful. :o

Front discs only chaps!. I am waiting on Skoda CC getting back to me. I do know that when I received the car last year, the discs looked rusty, that was brand new, obviously had been sitting about a yard for a while, never thought much about it, but I’d say to anyone who sees rusty discs gets juddering on their brakes on their brand new car to get it checked out ASAP. Don’t wait for the first year service!

Cheers Herschel, I am getting loaded up for a ding dong on this with Skoda. Must say the local dealer has been fine, (I bought the car from a dealer 300 miles away) this is the first time I have used the local dealer with this car. They discounted service after me telling them about local VW GTI service, still £40 more though. They also discounted parts and labour on the discs and brake pads, Still I am chasing Skoda for disc costs. I'll be informing them of my particapation on Briskoda, my second VRS etc, not a happy bunny just now, that 7.6K on a brand new car means corroded discs etc.

I will keep everybody informed as to Skoda’s official reply.

Oh a couple of little positives here chaps, I got the dealer to fit a new Limited Edition badge on the car! Hip hip hooray. Oh and the car was returned spotlessly to me, ie had been cleaned inside. I must say the dealer experience was actually positive, customer liason was excellent, car picked up and dropped off at my work, excellent communication with dealer service dept. For dealing with a car that was purchased elsewhere in the Skoda system they have been impressive (if somewhat pricy to other VW dealers where I am locally)

Looks like the old JD power survey for customer relations is still living up to the very high standard set :)

Cost me £110 for my first year service (fixed).

If discs and pads are wearing out at 7.5k why aren't the service intervals set at this point ? If you have variable service regime does this mean you're driving around with defective brakes for what could be 12500 miles ?

Andy yep I agree, I can understand pads maybe giving out due to someones driving style, but discs being shot due to corrosion is a very hard one to argue against at 7.5K 1 year from delivery. Skoda CC have been sent photographs of offending front discs, I have been told they may want to have them to have a look at. Seems a bit daft to me, the discs are not fit for purpose - ie the material seems excessivley corrosive and they should remimbuerse me for part at least, don't mind the fitting but even then if the part was up to scratch it'd not need replacement. I had my Mk I VRS (the old ventillated discs) from 12.5K to 38K and they never needed touching, pads yes. But discs at 7.5K, a good point to remember here is the shuddering started a long time before 7.5K miles, let's say 4-5K - always been rusty from day one. I'll not fall into that trap again. :(

I got that letter this morning. Might take them up on it as I reckon that's 2 services for £299... My car is due it's first service in 6400 miles according to the car, so if I register for the deal in a couple of months when there's 1000 miles or so left before the service I'll get 2 variable services... Must be cheaper than if I pay for them separately...

Interesting that they reckon my local dealer is the one I bought the car from rather then the one nearest the address on file emoticon-0136-giggle.gif
