new octavia wood trim

Featured Replies

Would be ideal if there was a 'shiny' black plastic option. Much like the L&K interior except that has a wooden effect as well..or am I wrong?

You can always remove the trim and spray paint it!

How easy is it to remove or change the trim strips?  What are the chances of getting some reasonably-priced second-hand dark walnut replacemenrts strips, perhaps off an old wreck ?

I like the wood (well I would, wouldn't I - I am a 70-year-old codger who wears a flat cap, so ner.)

I mean where you would otherwise have cheap, even-more-naff-looking pointless brushed aluminium trim strips, along the door panels and along the bottom of the dash panel.  I certainly would not want wood trim where the standard trim panels are black, like around the centre console.  And it would need to be a discreet, subdued, dark walnut colour, not a lurid orange-yellow sycamore-type colour.

And although beige / cream leather might make the interior lighter and brighter, I would worry about it marking easily and I regard grey or black as far more practical.  I thought it was only boring old gits like me who were supposed to like everyting to be coloured beige?

I heard from a good source that MP David Blunkett ordered the wood trim in his new Octavia, which he is now severely regretting as his dog has refused point blank to be seen driving it !

Back in the 1970s there was a saying - "the Japanese make plastic look like wood and the French make wood look like plastic".  Skoda seem to have found a middle ground!

I have never had wood trim in a car although my dad owned a 1964 Vauxhall VX-4/90 where the  dash (the whole width of the car) was one piece of veneered plywood.

Like the Ford Cortina 1600E - http://www.matey-matey.com/jpk.shtml

or the Lotus Elan - http://www.flickr.com/photos/28439790@N03/5662356096/

or the Triumph TR6 - http://tr6.classicsportscars.eu/PICTURES/triumph-TR6-wooden-dashboard.JPG

It is a styling tradition with a good pedigree!

Thanks for the reminder that the Cortina 1600E had a wood dash.  So I was wrong, I have owned a car with wood trim as I owned a 1600E for a brief 3 months.

I think it detracts from the German/VW clinical clean look & as has already been said, looks more like an "old farts" Rover interior.

I think that the gloss black trim in my vRS is the best looking trim in any car I have owned.  Certainly looks better than the matt aluminium in my last two Hondas and the previous Audi A4.

Just so.  I don't like the 'clinical clean' look - if I wanted that, I'd sit in a clinic ... or a toilet.

I am proud to be an old fart who loves the interior look of a Rover or an old Jaguar.  I like luxury and comfort.

So, can anyone advise please: which is the cheapest and easiest way to get a set of dark walnut trim sections, and how easy is it to fit them in place of the standard 'silver paint effect' brushed aluninium trim sections?

Dash sections are screwed or clipped in. Doors will be more difficult to change as they are plastic heat welded into the door cards.

Thanks.  Does that mean it would be neccessary to replace the whole door card?

Does anyone know of a good breaker who may have an Octavia with dark walnut cabin trim panels, please?  Where would be the best place to search?
