Coilover Problems!

Any pics of them mate? As AP/Weitec changed the later ones to a single spring with no helper - it would appear that the older ones had helper springs and were better!

The helper spring is supposed to make the ride more comfortable. If i remove it it'll allow me to make full use of the threaded part of the shock as my coil overs can go 110mm

yea dude we are missing these........ as the height we wanna ride the coil is loose on the shock.

My coils compressed right down cos of mines being as low as it'll go and it still makes noises lol. Turn the stereo up thats my solution :p

I have kw v1 coilies no bangs no knocks nothing

Aps and weitecs seem to give problems

If anyones after bargain coilies vmaxx are what you want

Here's mine.

W14RRN - your springs are on the wrong way round... thin ones are the rear, fat to thin are the fronts!

Hope this isn't as simple as it could be, have we had the springs put on wrong??? :giggle:

Don't worry they are on the car the right way round! emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Phew, there's me thinking we could all be wrong with the bigger spring on the front! Makes sense really, bigger spring supports the heavier load!

shall we buy the helper springs - get them fitted - then send KW the bill? :giggle:

I have weitecs and only problem i have is that i think my rear shock has gone after about 4 months. The wheel bounces i've been told, guessing the shock is gone?

Exactly the same on my Golf mk4 OS went first then the NS went. Weitec are replacing them FOC just got to wait for them to arrive. They sent me a new set of springs marked up as KW :smirk:

The helper spring has nothing to do with ride comfort. It is to make sure the spring is captive when you jack/lift the front of the car.

No, it's to take out the smaller bumps etc in the read. to make it more comfier.

For those who have coilovers with helper springs have a look when it is sat on the ground.....is the helperspring fully compressed? You should find it is. I have on sat on my desk, you can compress them with two hands, 500kg of car will compress it no problem.

Hint is in the name 'helper' helps keep the spring in situ when aggressive cornering and lifting.

The springs themselves sit on adjusters and the helper spring is below it so how can it keep it in situ if it's not touching the spring?

Some are on top some are below it makes no difference. It takes up the extra distance to keep the spring in place when the helper and spring is depressed.

Look helper spring fully compressed, spring help of a solid piece of metal.....How is that ment to help comfort? :wonder:

Mines is on the bottom not the top, so when the car lifts that wee bit the helper spring moves before the actual spring does

Therefor supposed to aid comfort, imo it's aload of balls cos mines is bumpy and un comfortable lol

It does not matter where the helper is it's doing the same job. It will take A LOT to decompress the helper when cornering.

Regardless anyways, everyone i know describes helper springs in the same way and thats to aid comfort. Even some manufacturors state this. I'm not on here to argue or to prove who's right and wrong!

Hearsay is a wide range and thats all i was taking it from! And as for doesn't matter where the helper spring is placed. I simply said mines on the bottom not the top and then got onto what i was told and that was to aid comfort!

I think your getting confused with secondary springs? They are a softer spring to aid what you say i.e softer bumps.

Dunno not a specialist mate, just like i said going on what others have said or i've been told
