Driving Lights

Featured Replies

Thinking a bout fitting some driving lights behind the lower or bonnet grille on my furbie vRS, anyone else fitted any, any suggestions on lights/brackets?any pictures? Can you obtain a grille with lights built in?

Why not just try some different bulbs in the normal lights if you dont find them powerfull enough?

Just purchased some 100w Rallye bulbs for the full beam :D

Another irresponcible dazzler. Should be an automatic 3 year ban for using these.

Do they go straight in or do you need a inline fuse to protect the wires?

For using main beam on empty b roads?

My 100W main beam never gets put on in the face of oncoming drivers, no matter how far away they are - thats definitely being irresponsible. :) Its solitary driving on country roads at night, where their usefulness outweighs the illegality, by some way. ;)

I assume (hope :D ) you dont need too. Do a search. Been many posts about it.

No extra wiring needed. I've had mine on for 15mins+ with no problems. The OEM light units/wires are very strong. The bright white light they give off at night makes for some serious safe driving, as its not too dis-similar to driving during the day.

where do you get these 100w bulbs from?

Mine came as a generous gift from an SDI driving briskodian. ;)

But powerbulbs stock them, I'm sure!

yep, power bulbs do, or i got some 100/90's from my local shop

and your lights wont dazzle as long as they are alligned properly, even normal lights dazzle like mad if wrongly alligned

right so these 100w lamps have the normal power headlight bit but on full beam they are brighter is that right? Do they have a blueish glow?

normal colours but brighter, so my 100/90's i believe are 90w on normal and 100w on full beam

is the 90w on normal ok or is this too bright? what are standard skoda bulbs?

50w, i haven't any complaints or flashes from people and nither has my brother, same bulbs and been in for months now

I'm gonna go with the legal, and excellent, Xenon headlights. As long as they are adjusted properly by the dealer(s) they provide fantastic visibility, without blinding.

Although I can see the benefit of stronger lights in the 'country' case, I would say you probably also use them on regular roads, and when you flick back to dipped beam, it will take just that bit longer for the oncoming person to adjust their eyes again.

I guess it comes down to your response time. if you wait for the very last second to dip your lights I'm sure the stronger lights could cause additional blinding. If you are a bit more cautious it won't really matter much I guess.

On the legal side of things though, would the police really pull you over though? Doubt it very much myself ;)

I'll agree with the Xenons - the only thing that would be nice is a little more range, but the spread and intensity of the light is superb.

I hate those numpties that think it's cool to drive around with sidelights and fogs/driving lamps. They get the full-beam treatment every time....

Big pet peeve of mine. And what stuns me even more, lately when I see these same ******* driving around on foggy nights, they actually turn their fog lights off!!! Can only assume they don't really kno what they're for and think you should only turn them on when you want to look "proppa bad man, innit!"

I don't know, maybe they're labelled differently in other cars... perhaps BMWs and Saxos have them labelled as "****** lights"...

But shouldn't they only ever go on with dipped beam?

I must admit that on really foggy days, I will turn the headlights off and drive with just side and fogs. The headlights just bounce off the wall of fog and cause a lack of vision. Next time it's really dense, try it and you may be pleasantly suprised.

I agree about them being tw@ts when it's not foggy though. I too give them the full beam treatment. Also don't understand Williams post. (Not that I'm suprised ;) ) How can it be dazzling to drive with uprated light on the full beam? You switch them off when a car comes the other way.

It is illegal in the UK to drive on sidelights (in the Netherlands they are called parking lights... That's coz they are illegal to drive with, under all circumstances..) under the conditions of driving > 30 mph (perhaps 40 mph).

Some cars for reasons beyond my personal understanding allow people to drive with foglights on and side lights  That's like really great...

The best way to fix this problem is to prevent it from being POSSIBLE in the first place. Some cars (not sure if the Skoda's have it) turn off the 'extra' lights, such as fog lights and other toys you don't need as a rule. I believe the Mazda 6 had it, but it's been a while ago now I drove one, so could be wrong.

I have seen driving instructors (!!) turn OFF their student's lights after they turned them on during the rain (the student driver put the headlights on, and the window wipers, and the instructor reached over and turned it off). IMHO that instructor should be banned from teaching ever again. But that's just me, and I'm in a tired state of mind

I'm sure I can do this in my octy, I was demonstrating to a Saxo that I also had fog lights!

I'm sure that in certain EU countries you have to have your side lights on when its raining?

Also in Italy you have to turn your lights on when on the motorways!

I've just done a night drive from Durham to Sheffield down the A1M and M1 in me Octy VRS. It was very cloudy therefore pitch black. Everyone knows Octy headlights (xenons excluded) are a load of Barclay's, but this was dangerous. I stopped every half hour (twice) to clean the lenses as I thought that there must be a build up of 5hite, but no! It was the non-swimming, bed wetting nature of the bulbs. I tried putting them on full elevation to no avail, then had to put the fog lights on just to see the side of the road.

I got straight onto the powerbulbs website when i got home and ordered a pair of Osram Silverstars. It was either that or afix a couple of Davy lamps to the front of the car...
