iOS 4.0.1 now released

Featured Replies

I wondered whether the fact that iOS4 allows multi-tasking might be partly responsible for increased battery drain. After using applications which I know are heavy on the battery- eg GPS-based ones and some games - I double click on the bottom button and close those applications when I have finished using them. I then make sure that the 4 icons showing in that running programmes bar are programmes which use minimal if any power when not in use, eg Phone, Calculator and Settings etc.

If you haven't used that feature before, after double-clicking you will see the last 4 programmes used. Press any one and a 'stop sign' will appear at the top LHS of all 4. Delete the ones you want to stop running in the background.

Yeah I forgot to say i've always made a point of closing ALL open apps when i know the phone is just going to be sat in stand-by for a while. Things like Twitter apps can be a real drain if you have geotagging enabled and also Safari is a real drain on the battery too when sat in the background. Multi-tasking was something i always said they should have made an option you could switch on/off as unless you are a big music listener there aren't any big benefits as far as i'm concerned. Things like texting & e-mail always used to be saved and then you carried on from where you left off anyway when re-opened them etc.

Just to confirm what you said above though for any new iPhone users it's a case of double tapping the home button then when the icons appear at the bottom of the screen you HOLD you finger on one of them for a second or so till all the icons start to 'jiggle'. Then just touch the '-' sign in the top left corner of each and it will close the app down. It's the same principle as when you hold your finger on an app normally so you can move it around or delete it from the phone.

thanks for that bit info, I had around 20 apps in that bar lol

sorry this is a re post but thought it would of interest in this thread aswell.

already posted it in the iphone 4 jailbreak thread but incase no one has checked it out i thought it might interest some of you running the i0s4.0.1 software on your 3gs.

just in the process of jail breaking my 3gs with ios 4.0.1 software as we speak. on your phone enter jailbreakme.com into safari and it comes up with slide to jailbreak. that quick and simple

once cydia is installed onto your home page click user (graphical only) and browse away

sorry if you already know or have done it :giggle:

once cydia has downloaded click on manage then sources, at the top click edit and type in cydia.hackulo.us then add source once done click on hackulous in the souce page. go to installous click it and install.

installous should now be on your home page, click on there and browse away, free tom tom etc

my bro is a bit of a whizz and anymore info he passes on i will put up

after doing it last night i'm very impressed to say the least the amount of stuff available is pretty cool, successfully downloaded a few things already, B)

Since I updated my 3G to IOS 4 and the newer 4.0.1 it has ruined the phone completely !

Constant freezing, crashing apps and slow operation is all just a joke really, never had any of these problems before update to IOS 4 !

Anyone know how to go back to old software ? 3.0.2 or something it was ???

Unless you have Jailbroken and saved your SHSH blobs there's no way to 'downgrade' the OS as Apple does signature checks.

Your best bet would be to restore to the new 4.0.2 and 'setup as new phone' rather than restoring from a backup. This will likely sort out any problems with the phone but, obviously, is a massive pain to re-enter or re-sync all your data. Plus you'll lose things like SMS and Call history.

iOS4.0.2 was released the other day. Apparently the only change from 4.0.1 is to close the pdf vulnerability that allowed the jailbreak of 4 and 4.0.1

Think i'll keep both our at 4.0.1

Cheers

Dave.
