Don't forget the one you drove is probably being used for test drives so it will be short drives and I am sure customers want to drive it fast so will hurt the mpg.

Averaging 33mpg. But to be fair that's mostly short journeys and I am using the right foot alot. It's quicker then a remapped mk1 vrs Fabia.

hello i have a re mapped vrs mk1 ,test drove the mk2 vrs on saturday and it is a lot quicker than my mapped vrs in drive not sport mode .dont know what your vrs is mapped to but the new one would drive rings round mine and its lowered to ,i thought mine was quick power comes in a big lump ,the new one just goes no torque steer at all love it .

mine is remaped to 178bhp and 285 ft-lb so it has the same bhp and more ft-lb but just my opinion but if some one would care to compare my car to there new MK2 im free any time

I test drove one yesterday and to be totally honest the dsg was brill! smooth and very quick esp in sport. A totally different beast to the Octy which is a manual! Never been one for auto's but this might have changed my mind

ye i likes the dsg i have driven a few autos but nothing as smooth as that very impressive

I was never keen on the front end of the MkII, however it is slowly growing on me, especially the face-lifted versions.

I agree with others, the new VRS looks the best in Green B) (I still want to see one myself). However to match the Black wheels I think a Black or Glossy Carbon fibre wrap roof would make it even better.

P.S. I'm I right in saying, that normal Super Unleaded is 97 octane not 98, it is only Shell, Tesco, BP who make higher octane stuff (98 or 99).

where are you from?

Yeah, the thought of green scared me, but seeing it in the flesh its not too bad, swmbo doesnt agree mind! I test drove a white one and saw a red one albeit with with white protection cover on it!

where are you from?

bradford, west yorkshire

yes spot on tesco's is 99 as well as Shell V-Power

It's advised that you run the vRS on 98Octane.

Is that advice just for higher performance - i.e. that one still has a choice without causing problems? My old Golf GTIs used to run either octane (the ignition adjusted to suit), but the performance did noticeably improve with the higher octane.

sales rep told me it had to be super unleaded ?

It's probably the same situation as I had with a Swift Sport.

You get full performance and economy on 98 RON. It will run on 95 RON, but at reduced power and economy drops a bit too. I wouldn't drive it hard on 95 RON either.

So, always use 98, but if you get caught short, pop some 95 in to get you back, it won't hurt.

So go on then...

Who's going to be the first to remap a MK2 then?

one of my freinds has a 1.4 Turbo punto which is remaped to 205bhp i think it is i cant see much more than that comeing from the small lump with out alot of work i did drive it as well and again felt it was just to small an engine ran out of puff at higher speeds oh and he buggard one turbo as well

Please go and get yourself a drive in the new vRS. Dont forget it has a superchager for lower revs and a turbocharger for higher revs. This car pulls throughout the rev range. I think you will be surprised.

Is this the old-old punto? (the mk1 for arguments sake) - if so that was the same 8v engine that was used in the R5 turbo... thats a prehistoric engine!.. IIRC it was pushrod too! - if it is i dont think it can be compared to a modern engine at all.

As said above.. the latest range of VW engines have been designed from the ground up to be turbo'ed...

lest not forget the DSG box will allow the car to be consistently competative away from the lights... dont rekon a mk1 vRS could keep up.

What a car! I was out visiting a mate tonight. Found myself driving the long way home. What a fun car. Love it. The old vRS wouldn't see the road the new one went.

Until the mk I vRS whizzes past the petrol station where the mk II vRS is filling up. Again. Does that "diffuser" increase downforce in any way except for adding extra weight?

Not in the slightest, it's just cosmetic.

i wonder what a remap would do to one of these? at the mo mines running 0.4bhp below the new vrs but over 100lbs more tourqe. i doubt many people will be remaping these for a while but a few years down the line be good to see some projects!

Theres a fella knocking around on here with a remapped Bocanegra Ibiza. IIRC with a remap, exhaust and induction kit it can run 235bhp.

I think they can be remapped to 215bhp or so. Having said that 180bhp is plenty fast enough already.

But is it? Unless I had a 300bhp+ stock car I would always be hankering for more power. Thats just me though :D

In a FWD small car chassis 180PS is enough everyday use any more power and it wouldn't be usable.

I've not driven many cars that have got too much power that matches the chassis, the only car I've driven which is far too much in terms of both handling and performance in a C63 AMG. They are ridiculous.
