Fabia vRS first night home

Featured Replies

In a FWD small car chassis 180PS is enough everyday use any more power and it wouldn't be usable.

I would tend to agree, much more on a road car & without trick traction control, diif & or slicks pulling away is hard. At the other end once rolling a light short wheelbase car can suffer unsecure handling at high speeds. Weve had a couple of moments in the Abarth at very high speed on the continent when a sudden unplaned change of direction has nearly left the tail wagging the dog

Interestingly & if your slightly insane there is already a 1600cc 295 hp / 379 nm torque conversion for the 500 Abarth & the Abarth only weighs 1030 kg, Im guessing the fabia is nearer to 1500, must be a handful.

I must admit that i was sceptical about this car at first but apparently a dealer is bringing one along to the next South East meeting and I for one cannot wait to drive it. The only thing I think I would miss is the manual box but we shall see. certainly looks a lovely little car mate ;)

Is this the old-old punto? (the mk1 for arguments sake) - if so that was the same 8v engine that was used in the R5 turbo... thats a prehistoric engine!.. IIRC it was pushrod too! - if it is i dont think it can be compared to a modern engine at all.

As said above.. the latest range of VW engines have been designed from the ground up to be turbo'ed...

lest not forget the DSG box will allow the car to be consistently competative away from the lights... dont rekon a mk1 vRS could keep up.

no the new 59plate one

As i said i test drove the new vrs and IMO it isnt as quick as my remapped MK1 vrs but if some one wishes to prove me wrong im ready and waiting to test my theroy its nippy but not quick i have owned some quick cars over my 10 years of driveing mondeo ST24, Vectra 2.5 V6 Gsi (178 bhp 175 ft-lb), and a Meriva Vxr (201bhp-235 ft-lb) and the fabia vrs (178 bhp-285 ft-lb) to name a few so i know the difference between a short sprinter and a motor way monster for want of a better term the 1.4 is just to small if it had the 1.6 out of the meriva vxr i had then it would be spot on.

The DSG was spot on and it had all the toys that the MK1 is missing im not saying the car is crap and dont buy it far from it just IMO it needed a bigger cc oh and before i get shot down i have a number of freinds who own Corsa, Meriva and Astra VXR's on several occasions i have gone up against both these types of cars and pulled away more so from the Meriva/Corsa saying that the Astra's top end do catch me no problem. We also held a Rolling Road day on which the operator did a simulated 1/4 mile my fabia did it in 14.9 sec and the 2 std Astra VXR's did it in 15.2/15.3 sec.

I know my fabia isnt the fastest car in the world far from it that aside you have a lovely car mate out of intrest what INS group is it? i couldnt find that info

I know my fabia isnt the fastest car in the world ,them stats you have given are pretty good for a 178bhp there is a chap on here who has his up to 260ish bhp and he does a 1/4 mile in 14.00 sec so you do have a special vrs ,and your can out run any of the vxrs made that is a quick car .

not any think i may have abit of trouble with the VXR8 lol its knowing how to drive the car as well its ok haveing massive bhp but it aint worth **** if you just spin your wheels in there own words they couldnt keep up if people need to see a pic of the white board filled in on the RR day i dont mind posting it up

3rd one down std Astra VXR 15.109 sec

7th one is mine 14,966 sec

its the ft-lb that sends you to 60mph you need the bhp for top end ;-)

thats cool looks like you all had a cracking day .

my mate came along in his VXR8 he got 510bhp and wasnt happy said it was too low but it was a small fan trying to feed a massive engine and supercharger it did sound very nice though

Astra VXR's are appalling off the line, theres vids on you tube of standard EP3 type R's rinsing them down the quarter mile!

I used to have a Corrida red Fabia a few years back with a Superchips map and the thing used to fly :giggle:

All about in gear acceleration in a diesel IMO though

I've got two daft questions.

What tyres does it come with (Make/ Model)? Is the spare Full sized?

Does it have a FMIC, SMIC or is it chargecooled (water-air) like the 1.2TSI?

Couldnt agree more my mate has a vxr astra and we went for some training at work into lezza, he opted to drive. And in arnesty it is one of the most appaling handling cars I have ever been in. No grip at ALL! With the traction control desperately trying to saught out the madness that vauxhall have created. With typical numb vauxhall steering it dont really seem like a car that you would feel comfortable driving at high speeds on b roads. The only strength of the vxr is its mid range shove to 100mph. In a nut shell my bloody god they have some pull you back in the seat grunt. And enought boost to make you giggle like a kid. But as my mate pointed out several times the turbo is ON or OFF.

And as mentioned civic type r's really do give them a hard time at santa pod.

n/a petrol's are junk down the quarter.... you have to use the revs to get them into lift cam then while you wait for that it kicks in and in first you wheelspin like a fruit, change to second... as you've been wheel spinning your again below lift cam and have to wait.... farce

whereas turbo get it rolling bang it into second and off you go!

i had a corolla tsport 189bhp vvtli same idea as a civic type r and was getting minced off fabia vrs off the line.... but running i would catch them towards the quarter

Does anyone know if the DSG box on the MkII has launch control? Tried the Superb V6 with it last year and it was a giggle

My Octy vRS came with carpet mats.

Does the Fabia II vRS??

i fink it does or its £45 extra but im sure the dealer will throw them in if your nice or have some of the extras
