Ok have the K&N air filter in my airbox. Took out the standard air intake pipe the other night too. Now was going to run a pipe from the front to the airbox but I am now considering having a discrette bonnet vent cut just above and in front of the air box. I would then run a short pipe from the air intake in the bonnet to the airbox, this way I would have a cold air intake feed. What about water running into the airbox though, will the filter stop this being a problem or am I going to get bent pistons? Good idea, bad idea? Whats the opinion?

Dam, So Evos and alike have air intakes in the bonnet dont they. They have a massive air intake or scoop for engine cooling and at the side of that a small air intake for the air, or am I just talking rubbish. Also would like to point out, I am not planning on fitting a massive air scoop or alike, rather a small disscrette slit for air to go in to feed airbox.

Star performance fitted it. They think it is fine so will keep it, wanting to get more air into the box though.

K&N filter from new will never screw your MAF.... where the problem lies is when the owner takes off the K&N and cleans it, after the 20,000miles they then apply to much oil and its then when it can foul things up

Scooby bonnet vents are for the intercooler..it sits on op of the engine.

I guess EVO bonnet vents are to let hot air out and perhaps to increase the air flow through the FMIC.

It's difficult to say. A discrete slot may result in air starvation: it depends on the aerodynamics at that point (it's quite common for there to be areas where air would be drawn up from the bonnet, such as in front of the screen). You'd be better off running a feed to the front of the car, where it's much more likely you'll get a positive feed, or fitting a cowl, but that might look a bit dodgy.

Octavias generate more power on the road than the golf or leon (all assuming equal parts) because there front bumper is much more agressive and actually frces the air in better than the golf, not sure the leon was tested at the same time.

The net reult I guess is worse as it may incurr more drag.

I you really want to force air flow...then it's SPT.

B&Q, length of kitchen fan duct and basically connect one en to your air box (needs cutting) and the other to twox50mm pipes cut into your lower right (facing) solid vent.

I had this and I can say after 6 hours driving that the air filter was almost ice cold, the rest of the engine bay was very hot...it works and you'd be amazed how much air force there on 2x50mm round holes in the front of your bumper...I was amzed at the amount of debris inthe upper section of pipe Alwys good to have a filter somewhere.

The Bonnet vent on the WRC Subaru's is actually blanked off, they have it there because the Raod cars have it,and for marketing reasons.

They have front mounted intercoolers on the rally cars, they get more' ram' effect from the air in front of the car.

So the general concensis is run a cold air feed by ducting the air from the bumber and then into the air box. I have took the old air feed off and this has left a hole at the side of the air box. Do I use this for my new pipe, block it off as I will cut a new hole for the pipe or cut a new hole for the pipe and leave the hole to?

don't think thats 100% true Joel, I've read of people having new K&N panel filters killing the MAF after a couple of months.

There was a thread on here with someone selling ex WRC Evo 2 bonnets complete with vents for the Octavia on here recently. Try searching for 'Octavia WRC EVO 2 Bonnetts' and that should take you straight there!

A vent on the bonnet will actually try and suck air out of your filter at speed as the fast moving air over your bonnett is very low pressure. That's why most modded high performance turbo cars and WRC cars with FMIC have bonnett vents to suck hot air out of the engine bay and aid airflow through the FMIC.

The only way it would work is with a bonnet scoop and then you are going to mess up the looks and aerodynamics of the car and possibly have water problems.
