Damped Grab Handle

Featured Replies

Does anybody here know if VW do the damped grab handle in black?

The handles on my Mk4 golf fit perfectly in my vRS but they're grey.

I may try swapping the little damping bush in the handle and see if that works, the VW and Skoda parts look virtually identical.

I know it's a very minor thing but I kinda miss the little finishing touches that the VW had...

Cheers,

iirc the Golf R32 can be specced with black headining.

Aha, I wonder how much VW want for a set.. Cheers Ross, I'll find out Monday :)

The headlining in the Leon Cupra R is also black.

thanks for that Buzz, I can play VW off against Seat for the best price! ;)

What is a damped grab handle? sorry for my ignorance :D

It's a grab handle that's damped.

Let go of the grab handle and it silently returns to its starting point without bouncing off the headlining :)

A nice touch, but I don't think it would be something I'd retrofit...

Steve

I didnt think the SEAT come with them.

If they do they will be cheaper than VW/Audi.

Get the prices posted when you find out... I too get much pleasure from the extra little luxuries. All the little things add up to make a car that extra little bit special...

Rear electric windows for example ? ;)

Exactly! Unfortunately, I've had to settle for an '05 model *sigh*, so I haven't got the privilege of electric rears. Certainly think about retro-fitting them one day though. I like the slide out drawer though. Simple little things.

Doesnt matter what model your Fabia vRS is, it will never have rear electric windows ;)

My Seat Leon had damped grab handles.

I say revel in the lack of damped grab handles - you've got to let the VW drivers feel they've got *something* better than your Skoda! ;)

I've been busy today! Managed to remove the little damping bush from the grab handle in the Golf and you know what, it fitted perfectly in the Fabias black handle! et viola, nice smooth grab handle action! If VW/Seat want silly money for new ones I'll pick some up from a scrapyard and fit them myself.

I didn't take any photos of the proceedure - it's pretty straightforward when you have the parts removed from the car.

SEAT definately has got damped handles, well mine did anyway and it wasn't a top spec one either.

Golf 25th Anniversary also has black grab handles as standard.

I thought the early vRS Fabias had electric rears.

Tom

Think early Elegance models did (may be wrong) but the vRS has never in its life time

SkiDude...

You opened up some standard grey Golf grab-handles and moved the damping mech over to the black fabia handle? SWEEET!!

I'll get some Golf ones now I know that!

BTW, VW wanted 17.50 each for black Golf handles!

Assuming you're talking about leccy rear windows, yep Elegance model had these up to 2002 I think. Doesn't have damped grab handles though, but I hold onto the steering wheel so don't really need them ;)

Yup, had to drill a pilot hole in the end of the handle to push the metal pin out (it doesn't show up) then just replace that little grey bush. Make sure the ridge in the bush fits into the slot when you reasemble is so it doesn't twist. You'll see what I mean when you do it. Let me know if you need any help. :)

Wow - never expected to find anything when I searched for 'grab handles'!

Great website.

I too decided to go for damped grab handles, as it is something I like on the A3, Golf and Cupra. Just a nice little mod to be done I feel!

Is it a direct replacement from a Leon or Golf and is it an easy job?

Cheers.

Edited to say - I drive an Octavia RS - is the principle the same?
