Replacing Stream With........?

Featured Replies

I posted similar in the ICE forum bit its a bit quiet in there

I love my Octy VRS, its possibly the most underrated car on the road today IMO, however my only niggle is with the stereo, its awful, radio reception is terrible and i have to retune on a long journey, sounds ok tho and I like the cd changer.

BUT

I want to add bluetooth and the ability to use an iphone to play misic ( no aux socket in my jumbo box )

The logical solution would be looking at retrofitting varios Skoda options to get a 'factory' solution or to look at a bolero with sd socket insted and an aftermarket bluetooth like a parrot ck3100, or to get the Parrot that allows iphone playback etc ( about £275 fitted )

However I have seen this

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/clarion-cx609e.html

Its cheap, sounds ok ( at least as good as the stream which is all I require as its the functionality i'm missing not sound quality )

It does Bluetooth for phonecalls and ipod playback, it has a lead for ipod playback and charging and its a cd/tuner etc

Also the colour of the display can be tailored to suit whats already in the car.

Seems ideal apart from a few folks say the OS4 on the iphone wont work with it properly

Has anyone else seen/used one of these as its a nice, cheap, reasonably OEM, non flashy looking headunit

The replacement radio looks like something Lidl or Aldi sell every month or two for about £60. With the variable lighting colours matching it to the car will be pretty easy though, so it's clever from that point of view.

The poor radio reception almost certainly has nothing to do with your head unit and everything to do with corrosion in the aerial or a problem with the aerial amplifier (Do a search for the trouble shooting procedure for this). Not sure whether you'll be able to keep the CD changer you have and still be able to use it with the radio either, but on my last radio I had one CD with several hundred mp3's on it, left it on random play and didn't change it for years, while on the current radio with no mp3CD support, even with the CD changer the range of music available is much more obviously limited. Also when you set it to play at random there's a 2 second delay between tracks on the same CD. I wired an mp3 socket in and that solved my music issues, but I'm not looking for anything more than that.

If you want bluetooth and USB that radio looks like it's definitely the way to go - given how little these add-ons cost to make, you get royally shafted getting the Skoda official parts. You'll need to check what sort of plug the back of the radio uses to connect to the car wiring, it may need an adaptor, but apart from that it'll do the job nicely, though you'll lose out on the graphics from the reverse parking sensors and ventilation system.

Agreed on the looks, kind of good really as I cant see anyone wanting to break in to the car to nick it! As long as I can find a suitable replacement facia trim i'll be happy if it does what it says. If i cant get a nice trim its a non starter!

i have a stream in my vrs and it is coming out after it has been replaced under warranty, like yours it has poor radio reception and cannot seek any stations, it is the actual hu that has the fault, rather than the aerial. then its being replaced with a pioneer fh-bt80, which is a superb bit of kit, its 40 quid dearer than the clarion you are thinking of buying, it has the same features, but i think the pioneer looks better, as it has fewer buttons. here is the link http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/pioneer-fh-p80bt.html

I have a Pioneer FBT900 in my Mk2 VRS. You can change the display colour very easily - so I would imagine you can do it on that model.

It's a good piece of kit, but the double din units in the Octavia just look a little out of place with the fascia adaptors. Only my opinion though.

I have a new Scout on order, so it will be being removed and being placed on Ebay in the near future if you are interested!
