exaust performance gains.

Featured Replies

any performance gains to be had from swapping my exaust on my vrs fabia or is it purly cosmetic and sound that people go for?

i know on petrol cars that i have owned it has helped the bhp ect with an exhaust but on a derv im not conviced more peolpe have said inc a tuner that it will do nothing to improve the performance

some report smoother throttle or better turbo spool ;)

with a decat you'll recieve faster spooling turbo due to less restrictions

With a decat you get such a free spooling turbo, it can actually overboost causing damage to the turbo.

BOOOOOM

even with hybrid pd150 turbo im running milltek sports cat

Not strickly true.

The standard back box is actually more restrictive then the cat (particle filter)

Thought you would gain more Torque

No , no worries with overboosting at all

You have a management system that will not cause that at all

But issues can be found on the turbo`s to start with

It`s worth while doing with a remap, helps car breath a bit better, squeeze a few extra bhp out. Plus sounds nicer too!

Matt

at the end of the day unless your after squeezing every last single bit of power from it, its probly not worth it imo , as its the remap that gives the majority of the power a gains anyway emoticon-0148-yes.gif

* edit * but even with this said, if your like me and get bored easily then you'll still probaly end up fitting 1 at sum point anyway just to keep yourself entertained for a while emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Im going to get a remap soon, ideally want to keep the standard exhaust, will it be a problem?!

Mines been fine. It's been mapped for two years with the standard pipe and at the time it pulled 146 bhp standard.

Regards Chris

Nope no problem at all. I ran the std system with a stage-1 hybrid on Fabia #2 :)

And that wasn't exactly down on power or struggling for torque

The aftermarket do sound a bit nicer and I particularly prefer the look of the twin-pipe Milltek setup, but performance-wise I found the standard setup to work just fine.

Sold hundreds and hundreds of these with n o issues at all

The turbo`s are having issues with no decats , so how anyone can say it is down to the decat I dont know

I mean there is also people going on about how rubbish the MAF`s are , then say it is down to the filters......I mean

sorry to high jack this thread but whats the best best advice for getting the car to sound a little more sporty?! I love my car but would like it to sound a bit more... Fruity :wonder:

I dont really want to change the tailpipes as I like the OEM ones?! Is a straight Decat the way to go on this? Or are there other things that could help?! If so and whats a good price?

Cheers

hi bud an exhaust will increase noise minimally as will any type of after market airfilter

im running a bmc cda and it makes naff all difference

as with my miltek not much difference

the best mod you can make to the sound is a HYBRID TURBO they roar like nothing else! 10x the bmc filter B)

but not so practical at circa £1000

I would like a Hybrid but have lost my spare £1000 I left in my bedside draw :p

Changed the air filter and noticed nothing also

Hi James, I havent done this myself but have gathered from other posts on here that a de-cat on standard map is ok as the turbo can handle any increases in boost pressure.

There is a zorst company advertising on here atm for cat-back stainless system for £195 special brisky summer offer or something like that and looks very OE.

If that doesnt get it sounding 'fruity' its prob best leaving standard - but how will you know???

Do you have a link?

It's the Jetex system he's meaning. You'll see the ad for it at the top of the page, if you wait long enough for it to come round :)

Seems a good price, but I've never used Jetex so can't comment on durability/quality etc.

Thanks for that, I have to admit though Im not too keen on the Jetex one looks a bit too big for my liking.

Jetex! had Jamex in my head but knew that wasn't quite right and the Revo ad seemed never ending!

Think I would excuse its largeness at that price so if you're not impressed by the branded zorsts why not try a custom one then you can spec the tail pipes yourself.

If its more sound fruity sound you want, why don't you try the 'mufflerectomy', and get them to use your standard tail pipe? Basically it just removes the backbox from the system which is replaced by a straight pipe, and you can leave the cat in place.
