REAR DOOR PROTECTIVE FILM FITTED FOR FREE

Featured Replies

Been into my dealer on another matter, we checked out stock to see if any model had protective film fitted as standard ,his Yeti although had the off road button did not, but a low spec octy did have protective film fitted , All very strange decision making by Skoda.

Hi mellyboy,

you will find Yeti's with the off-road button but no film as it appears to be the rough road pack that you need to have opted for to get it fitted (SE and Elegance only in the UK).

Also noticed a few weeks back a new style Fabia SE in a dealers showroom which had the film fitted to the rear end of the sill and extending slightly up the wheel arch.

Regards,

TP

I asked my dealer to fit this protective film and he made a mess of it, how can I remove it without damaging the paint?

Easy, get him to do it again at his expense :giggle:

Our Yeti will only be used on the road. Do people think it's still advisable to go for the protective film?

I think for the small cost of having them fitted by your dealer (if they will fit them) and looking at the state of the roads with winter around the corner, then I would say yes, its better than a chippped car !!

Yes the dealer should sort this out, it's not a difficult job, it just needs a modicum of care and a clean environment when fitting. I made my own versions. If this is the same material as '3M scotchguard paint protection film' then gentle heat from a hairdryer should remove it - but get the dealer to put it right, it's not your problem it's theirs.

All credit to our skoda dealer in Carlisle, they arranged for the protective film to be fitted (for free) at another dealers down the road as they were not used to doing it themselves.

I'm due to pick up my Yeti from Thomson & Potter in Blairgowrie tomorrow and when I emailed the salesman (Michael) last week to see if they could supply / fit the protective film his reply was that they had already fitted it 'as a surprise' . I wasn't that surprised as customer service has been exceptional throughout - efficient and easy to deal with.

Hi Del B, I'm picking up my SM tomorrow too

Only one more sleep - good luck tomorrow!

Won't get much sleep tonight Del :giggle:

The body shop attached to the Skoda dealer here said they tried to do one, didn't get a good finish so now use a local specialist to fit them with much better effect.

Car is booked in to have the chips repaired and the film fitted under warranty next week.

Mine arrives sometime towards the end of november. I asked the dealer to enquire about the protective film and they have come back to me to say that it will be fitted as standard on all new Yeti's with a build date of 8/11/2010 or later. Of course mine has a build date of around two weeks prior to that!!

The dealer wants to charge to have them fitted to my car. I have spoken to Skoda UK but they are not willing to help. So I have now emailed Skoda head office - waiting for reply... Will post the outcome (if I get one).

Great... mine is getting built week 44 and the week you are referring to is week 45. I have emailed Skoda as well re fitting these to my car for free since many people on here have had it done and their reply was:

Thank you for your e-mail dated 1st September.

Each case that we investigate is appraised on its own merits and the decision to award goodwill or not is made by the

casehandler.

In this case, there is no evidence suggesting that your vehicle would have the similar issues to the people you have made

reference to.

If you wish to have these parts fitted to your vehicle I would advise you to contact your supplying dealer to enquire as to the costs.

They would not be able to be fitted as part of the PDI as this is a series of checks to make sure the vehicle has arrived as

specified on the order sheet.

Thank you once again for taking the time to contact Skoda UK.

My reply just stated that they have now just put in black and white that my car will NEVER get stone chips in this area and that they will pay the cost if anything ever should cause paint damage to that area. No surprise but they never replied to that logic.

Sorry if this question has been asked before?

I've bought the foils how is it best to fit them?

Hi i diy fitted the foils i cleaned the area then sprayed lightly with warm soapy water.

put the foil on line up the small cuts in the back of the foil with the rear edge of the door and the with a soft lint free cloth push out any air bubbles .

once you have got all the air bubbles out and some water open the door and fold the back part round the door edge do this part dry otherwise it will not stick .

good luck (it only takes about 10 Min a side)

Hi

I complained to my dealer about stone chips they agreed that it was quite a lot of chips for a car that had only done about 4000 miles .

They took pictures and sent off to Skoda for a respray of doors replacing of door trims and fitting of foils under warranty.

This was agreed and both rear doors where resprayed and new trims fitted as well as the foils all no charge.

The foils had to be replaced at a later date as they had been damaged before they where fitted. The body shop manager was not happy with the end result, but fitted them as the doors where now in perfect condition after the respray.

All resolved now and very happy with the level of service of my dealer .

Hi ConfusedAgain,

My Yeti is due to go into production at the end of November so according to the information you have been given my car should have the protective film factory fitted. I have asked my dealer to confirm that this will be the case but they have been unable to get a response from Skoda UK. Would you please post the name/contact of the dealer that gave you this information.

Thanks

I'm sorry, I should have posted here rather than "Rough Road Package".....The plastic film /foil is now standard on all models. I saw a brand new 1.2 today with them fitted on the rear doors (and without the RRPack). Dealer confirmed the change.

At last Skoda has resolved this easily fixed issue. Skoda has acted strangely over this issue, as when they fitted mine for free you have thought this had set a precedent and they would then continue to do so for other owners if requested, from the many posts on this subject it has shown there has been no consistent action from Skoda UK or Skoda stealer's. Would be nice to know what Skoda policy is for owner who have paint damage because of the decision to not fit the film on all models to prevent a known problem . Be nice to think that Skoda do take note of our postings and this helped to resolve this issue for new owners of their cherished Yetis.

My local dealer has told me that a re-spray on the doors and the films are being fitted now under warranty to anyone who has complained about it. Hopefully getting mine back tomorrow or monday, newly repaired and protected!

Thanks oldstan. That is great news. I have just called my dealer and he checked a new car they have and can confirm that the foils are present. BTW - I never did get a reply from Skoda head office (even after 4 emails over a period of 4 weeks)!.

Skoda Ireland's stance was take it up with dealer and get a technical report though at same time saying paint chips are not a warranty issue.

Dealer stance is nothing to do with them as stone chips are not a warranty issue.

Has anyone had any luck getting these fitted on older models that didn't have them as standard, mine isn't looking too bad in these areas maybe just 1-2 little signs of chips so would like these fitted asap, quite happy to order as only £30ish but would appreciate advice from anyone who has contacted Skoda direct or got their dealers to supply/fit for free.

Or should I wait and try to claim a respray of the doors as a warranty claim if it gets worse?
