Tyres and stuff, what do you use?

What are the 912's like??

If they are anything like the 512's they replaced then they are ****e.

That price ain't bad at all I got four for £292, but that is here in south wales, and the place is freakishly cheap

Just failed my MOT due to both rear tyres being cracked, going to swap the fronts to the back and i'm looking for a pair of decent tyres. I've been phoning around and some guy at national tyres tried to sell me a pair of Wanli, aparently they are great tyres and he's got a set on his M3 thought bull poo straight away :giggle: double checked online and i was was right lol.

Cheapest decent tyres i can find are Falken FK-452 for £165.06 a pair.

Is that a good price or does anyone know anywhere cheaper??

Just to add my local tyre place can do it for a similer price but dunno if they would be 452 or 912

Good price, the tyres alone from Camskill are £130 for 2,without delivery or fitting.

Was just gonna say Have you tried camskill?

I got 2 Kumho KU31's for 140 quid a few months ago, but they're out of stock now.

Here are all the tyres they do for the vrs:

LOL typical of national tyres to say he has them on his M3 :giggle:

The Falken 912 are ok for your average family car, but lack any real grip or performance. They sacrifice those qualitites for longer life, being a harder compound.

The Falken 452 are a very good tyre, also, if he hasnt suggested it yet then ask about Kumho KU31 tyres, they are also very good and considered a mid range tyre so should be about the same price, if not a little cheaper.

haha next time i deliver to national tyres i'll ask if they reccomend fitting Wanli to an M3

 That's me stuck now as the price i first mentioned included fitting, Camskill is £135.18 inc del, and blackcircle is £136.86 inc del or £165.06 fitted so that's £28.20 for fitting two tyres, err is that good or bad??

By your tyres and if you find a decent tyre fitter you can usually chuck him £10 for the tea fund

Independant companies are normally the best way to go, all the national tyre companies tend to have prices etc structured by their head office, independants can do what they want, and are more likely to fit tyres for you cheaper.

around here its a tenner per corner by a company or £5 a corner to a friendly cash in hand chap ;)

The going rate varies. Kwik fit wanted 40 quid ( :o :o :o) to fit 2 tyres. The local garage will do them for a tenner each.

For convenience, I would say go for it. Not many garages like fitting tyres you haven't got from them.

Would look more into khumos but had them on my xr4 and they didn't last 6 months, yet the cheapo silverstones that came with the alloys lasted over a year and a half, didn't feel less gripper either!

Quite like the look of the Falkens

Nearly fell for that one, on the blackcircle site you have a choise of delivered or fitted, the price for fitted is correct and is all you pay, Thought the delivered option would show the deliverd price, but it doesn't it's an extra £12!

Give Vic or Gaz a ring at Tech tyres (osbaldwick) 01904 427636.

Raf these size tyres fit well on the 17" spiders http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m54b0s16p12403 and Ian Brown of Malton will fit them for £10 per corner, it a good tyre place:thumbup:

Too late already ordered them, saw the 225's but can't put them on the front if the rears are 205's and can't afford 4 tyres. Ordering rear springs later as the MOT picked up a broken coil. I've phoned around and the cheapest has been £85 has anyone near York got a spare pair of springs or does anyone know anywhere cheaper?

I'm looking at a new full set soon I think, even though the hateful NS2s are still going strong after over 2 years. Can't seem to get KU31s in 205/50 at a decent price, and people opinion on the Hankook V12s seems to have taken a downwards turn recently. LIkewise, I used to hear a few negative things about the 452s but now they're getting decent rating. I'd love to try the Sessantas, but I don't want to switch the tyre size because I don't trust insurance companies not to pick up on it and claim it's an out of spec modification. The other Vredesteins seems to have a mixed bag of reviews, depending on how keen the drivers are.

I did loads of reading of reviews on tyres last night and the 452 had the most consistant high reviews. Find out on Friday if they are as good as people say lol

Are you having a laugh they are the quietest tyres I had so far......and I've had a few lol

  • 1 month later...

I have a 2004 Elegance 1.9tdi pd 130 Estate have always run on BF Goodrich G grip excellent all rounder amazing grip especially in the wet and not the most expensive.

Bit noisy. Go for Kumhos

I would't have the 425's again! Was told to run them in for 1000mls but after this they were still ****!!!!!!!! well god damn scary!!! There is little feed back through the tyres and when wet even less. There was no warning that they were going to let go half way though a bend! I had big brown pants that day!!! There was more grip from the worn tyres that was removed and the car felt safer. I would pay that bit extra for something better for piece of mind! but thats my own opinion and i know other people would disagree with me.

There seems soo many variables with tyres, one person may think they are really good and another that they are rubbish. Might be due to bad batches, car set up or driving style.

For example I had a bad experiance with kuhmo's ku31 and i won't touch them again, yet loads of people say they are good.

I'm finding the 452's really good and i'm having the opposite to what you've had, but could be due to owt above.

We all have differen't opions and it's fine to voice them

(p.s don't want this to turn out like the ebay front intercooler thread! :punch: )

avon zz3 for me on my second set get about 10 thousand miles out of the fronts thats mixed driving

452's on mine only done 1500 mile at the moment found them excellent in the wet not too convinced about dry yet. Quiet on the motorway with good rolling resistance not affected MPG on a run.
