Front and Rear Optical Parking Sensors OPS retrofit

Featured Replies

Good evening thought I’d share my latest triumph. I’ve now wired in and coded my OPS retrofit. I will write a how-to guide once it’s fully finished. I’ve yet to drill the bumper as I wanted to ensure I could get the complete system working before any holes are drilled into the front and rear bumper.

I regretted not going for the rear parking sensors after picking my car up, as it’s not the best visibility out the back. I also liked the display the factory OPS gives you on the Columbus, so decided I would retrofit the OPS and the Park Assist (Self Parking) from the VW Golf. I will do a write up for the Park assist once I have it working next week.

This is the first time i've used VCDS and it is a very good tool, very pleased I brought it.

Finally found the CAN Gateway. This is on the driver side on the FL not behind the glovebox as I believe it may be on other models/years.

Big Nick, to add the fronts to your existing OPS, you will only have to add the front sensors, speaker and parktronic switch as shown below.

I know the controller in question as I just retro fitted light assit.

Do the front sensors and switch wire upto the controller in the back? That you have pictured or the controller above throttle?

Also interested in where you got the parts.

Cheers

BIG Nick :)

They all wire to the controller in the back. My part number is 1Z0 919 475 C

The wiring diagram above refers to the 3 connectors that plug into this control unit. The unit above the throttle is the Can gateway and the OPS unit connects to the can high and low as pictured on the diagram.

Hi there,

Greetings from Denmark. Very nice job. Does anyone know if this is possible in a Superb II, with original retrofitted parking sensors and swing radio? Is it the same components to use there?

I've ordered the rears for my new vRS, is it relatively straight forward to then fit the front ones too?

Yes you willl only need;

4 sensors

4 holders for the sensors

1 speaker

and then make or buy the wiring to wire them back to the control unit in the boot.

Hello all.

my first post here.

im researching the fitment of OPS to my Golf (i know it's not a skoda)

i purchased a complete OPS retro fit kit from carsystems.pl

it looks fairly straight forward, but there's no wiring instructions included in the kit, and there

does not seem to be instructions available on their site either.

the kit has 5 wires (not including the buzzer wires)

the 2 x orange can wires. (pins 6 and 15 )

1 x brown earth wire. (pin 8 )

1 x green +12V power wire (pin 1 )

and a white wire (this one i have no idea where to connect)

can someone please shed some light on where this white wire goes ?

some more investigation today shows that the white wire is pin 3 in the 16 pin beige plug.

thanks in advance.

Jason.

Thanks for this. It would be great if anyone could point us in the direction of any instructions as I am about to attempt to retrofit OPS, Columbus, CAN Gateway, towbar and dedicated 13pin electrics. Thanks for the pictures.

A simple question (I hope).

Does anyone know where the two buzzers should be located? Or which one goes where (I guess there might be a different sound from each)?

I have one for front and one for rear, so I guess they must be located independently, but have no instructions to go off and can find no information on the internet.

Yes you willl only need;

4 sensors

4 holders for the sensors

1 speaker

and then make or buy the wiring to wire them back to the control unit in the boot.

so you say if I get all of the above and wire to the original module on the rear side, it will work as if original, don´t I need a module for front and rear.

Module 1Z0 919 475 C is for both front and rear sensors. The front sensors need to be wired back to this module (in the boot) and they use the existing wiring from there on.

If your control module is A or B suffix, then it will only support 4 sensors.

As stated you will need an additional buzzer / speaker as well.

so decided I would retrofit the OPS and the Park Assist (Self Parking) from the VW Golf. I will do a write up for the Park assist once I have it working next week.

So does the Golf Park assist not use 6 front sensors like they do on a Skoda?

I thought you needed the 2 side sensors for the Park Assist to work (do they not detect whether the gap is large enough for the vehicle to fit into?)

was installing the sensors in the front bumper a pain? are they easy to install like aftermarket ones? how do they hold on the bumpers?

Thanks..

Thats a superb upgrade

How much would a pro charge for this upgrade?

Would YOU consider doing this for somone else?

The go on the B pillar behind the plastic, take a look at the pictures above and there is a picture of me holding one. From memory I think the rear is on drivers side and front on passenger. However it really doesn't matter as they produce a different tone and it's hard to hear what direction the sound is coming from.

Kbphoto is correct 1 module will do both front and rear if the part number ends in C, however if it ends in A or B then you will need to replace the module. I believe it's about £40 ish.

Yes park assist, I.e the self parking needs 6 sensors on the front, 2 are located on the sides of the bumper. However the golf and superb come with park assist as an option and the octavia vrs does not. I was unable to get the park assist to work as it seems to need a specific abs module.

Can someone check that I have this correct please?

1) The short brown one from pin 8 (not the sensor connector blocks) goes to ground and can be attached to the grounding point on the chassis under the NSR light cluster.

2) I have a purple one (I don't think it is purple/black as per the diagram in this thread) about the same length as the orange CAN wires which I suspect goes to a switched live source, but where is the best place to connect it to?

3) Am confused by the three wires coming off the switch. Why two grounds? Where do they connect to? Where does the purple/grey one connect to in order to supply power for illumination (of the switch I presume).

Any clarification appreciated in simple terms for a non-electrician.

Thanks

Hello. Do anyone know if the front bumper is prepared for drilling holes, like the rear bumper? I really would like to have parking sensors on my 2010 Octavia.

Does this system work on a pre FL?

Sent from my Galaxy S5

I've retro-fitted F&R sensors from a FL Octavia to my pre-FL Octavia and have OPS & PDC; so yes it is.

If you already have rear sensors then it involves some wire swapping.
