Plastic engine under tray

Well thanks for all the replys, I have decided to "re-fix" the old one, it's is more or less still in tack just needs new holes drilled into the tray and plastic mounts and job should be a gooden :)

Been driving carefully without it but would be nice to have a it back :)

Cheers all,

Dave

I would have thought that leaving the floor plate off would destroy the under car airflow and thus create more drag and less speed and also increase the mpg, as well as letting water and muck splash all over the engine bay, it's definitely worth replacing for the small amount that Skoda charge.

DB.

+2 :D

Not that this is based on any real technical know how but I'd have thought that

not having one would affect under car aerodynamics too.

Mines not lowered though so ground clearance is not a problem at all.

If I did ever damage it I would replace it though for the sake of 40 odd quid.

Make sure it's well fixed when you repair it Dave, it's quite windy down there

at 70mph+

have you seen the shape of the fabia?

tbh i highly doubt a crappy bit of plastic is going to help it 'cut' through the air

Its a box on wheels

If it wasn't required then clearly Skoda wouldn't spend money fitting something to a car that's underneath and not visible.

Hence it must be performing a function - I can think of several:

1. Protecting the engine and other low-down mechanical parts from water spray, etc thrown up by the wheels.

2. Improving the cooling by regulating the airflow around the engine compartment.

3. Improving the economy by improving the aerodynamic drag under the car.

ROFL how true! Plus it's quite alot lower than the sump, if mine was on it now, it'd not last long I doubt. I don't think a bit of spray on the sump will cause much damage tbh

A 'smooth' box on wheels is better than box with holes/gaps/crevasses etc... Even big lorries have v important aerodynamic properties, could potentially save 30% on efficiency just by adding simple panels at the right places.

I could be doing a project related to that in a couple of months time.. :D
