TomTom Go

Featured Replies

Merry Christmas everyone,

I'm tempted to venture out into the sales over the next few days to get a TomTom Go. I don't need a PDA so I thought I'd go for the all in one option.

One quick question though - I've heard some windscreens, particularly heated screens, can block the GPS signal. I know the Furby does not have a heated screen but can anyone confirm that the GPS receiver will work 100% inside the car?

Thanks,

Should be fine, quiet a few here with furbys have gone down the tomtom with pda route, the only cars I've known to have problems with gps reception are Renaults.

I was think the same thing. I'm off to my local cuurys and comet to play them off against each other a bit! Comet were doing for

My dad bought a Tom Tom go a short while ago, he loves it.

Works fine on the furby Vrs. Been using it since june now. Not a problem at all!

Yeah heated windows can be a problem but the vrs front windows arent heated so ur fine. Otherwise u wouldve forked for a GPS attenae

Hi guys I had the same idea!:D

If you hit the dixons website www.dixons.co.uk and buy it on line entering the promo code "DIXONS30" without the quote at the checkout stage you get 30 quid off which brings it down to 369.99 inc delivery!:D

Happy christmas!:D hehe

Thanks for that guys. I think I'll be popping over to Currys later today.

make sure it comes with the uk maps. comet was selling it a 379 but didnt bother making it clear that maps weren't included. :(

The dixons site says

# Great Britain Maps(pre-installed on SD)

# Major Roads of Europe Maps(CD ROM)

So hopefully mine will turn up in the post some time in the new year!:D I looked at the ICN510 but chose the GO as it runs linux not crashdows CE.

Will have to order a new SD card to get the full UK multi digit post code and speed camera POI on there too!:D

I got the Co-Pilot Live for Windows SmartPhone system for chrimbo - works a treat, shows you directions though your phone.

The phone uses a bluetooth antenna, which I've sat under the windsreen while testing it yesterday. No signal problems at all!

I've found that most newish French cars will have problems as they have some sort of 'Le Thermo-metallic' ® fangled layer of invisible stuff in the windscreen which blocks some of the suns harmful rays....and GPS signals.

I had this in two of my previous Citroens and had to use a re-radiating antenna on my old GPS system, the antenna sits at the back window and passes on the signal inside the car, up to the 2nd GPS antenna at the front of the car - pain in the ass!

The Furby (and most Skoda's AFAIK) will not have any problems since they have real windscreens!

OK, is there a trick I don't know for the suction cup mount? I tried sticking it to a table without the TomTom on it and it fell over in under 20 seconds. The table is flat.

Yesterday I couldn't get it to stick to the windscreen, but I put that down to the cold temperature.

Any ideas? I'm starting to think blu-tak.

Yeah, I got that one! :P

I've been pressing the mount down onto the desk and then using the lever to expell the air and lock it but it's not staying put.

I've just e-mailed TomTom to see what they say.

Thats strange my PDA mount has been stuck to the windscreen for months. Perhaps a fault?

Erm well wouldnt forums with lots of other people using them be a good place to ask about the stickyness of the mount? See if anyone else has had the problem?? ;)

Had to take my post code files down as I ran out of webspace:(

TomTom have just sent me a set of instructions for returning the mount via DHL.

Now to find the right sized box for it...

I got my Tomtom go on Boxing day and have had no problems with the mount. It won't stick to the fabia dash as it isn't smooth but the windscreen is no problem. I've found it holds better if you push it on fairly firmly before pushing the lever away.

I was may be thinking of mounting it down the ashtray (using the black circular pad). Has anyone tried this?

It is also worth updating the software to v. 4.42 I think as it allows you to add your own POI and the speed (safety!) camera database is also useful.

I'd also like a database of all Skoda dealers (just in case) but can
