2 Warning lights and Limp Mode!

Featured Replies

Panicing a bit here as im using the car to go on holiday in 2 weeks time.

Driving home tonight, i have noticed 2 lights on the dash and the car in limp mode.

1st light that comes on is the Exhaust light (DPF light) I done what is suggested and drove the car hard for 20/30 mins, but its still on.

Then while coming home i noticed the glow plug light flashing at me and the car going into limp mode.

Whats wrong? HELP!!!

Yeah, i turned it off then on again and it appeared instantly.

Been told to try something by a Skoda Technician. So out to give it a go. :S

I even unplugged the batery just to make sure.

Best of luck to resolve this issue.

Keep posted :)

Tried the regeneration there. Drove 30 miles at 2000 revs in 5th gear but its till on, glow plug light is flashing and the car is still in limp mode.

To add to the equation, the Engine Management light is on aswell now. Perfect timing. Just before my holiday. :(

Call out Skoda Assist!

I've had the DPF and engine mgt lights plus limp mode, but not the glow plugs at the same time. It was a 100% clogged DPF, which can't be fixed by regen. Dealer service only - mine was only 6 weeks old, so no cost - not sure how you'll go Andy?

Common problems are the exhaust temp sensor and the sensor that senses the DPF load (differenzdruck sensor in German).

Not only on the older PD engines, but also on the CR engines.

Get it sorted out by the dealer. Trying to regenerate wont work if the engine is in limp mode.

Hope they can sort it out before your holidays, in Germany the sensors are out of stock.......

Just remembered that the first thing they checked was if there were any blown lights, especialy break lights.

magic62 - Got it in 1. Exhaust Gas Pressure sensor is away. DPF came back reading 33% but with the sensor not functioning properly, it cannot complete a proper regeneration.

Its going in tomorrow morning. Top service again from my Skoda dealer.

The car has been playing games with me all day.

Filled the car up with fuel tonight and when i came out the petrol station i noticed the glow plug light wasnt on. Gave the car a boot and the boost was back. No Limp Mode! :D Decided to try and regeneration run myself and after 10 miles Bingo!! DPF light is now off aswell. Just the Engine Management light to go and that will be it sorted and back to normal.

Why do they do this to us?

That is the pressure sensor on its way out. Had it on my PD the last kms I had the car. Fault codes could be found and erased, after a while they came back.

You did exactly the right thing, as the engine isnt in limp mode it will be able to regenerate.

Let the exhaust gas temp sensor be checked too, had it replaced on my car before the pressure sensor went crazy. (and than I sold the car).

I have just had the same problem but all 3 lights came on at once phone skoda assist who got me a hire car and mine was taken away by the RAC.

magic62 - Its going into the dealer tomorrow to get this done.

shaun_vrs - Hopefully yours is the same problem as mine and a quick and easy fix.

Has anyone else heard about a recall on the Exhaust Gas Pressure sensor? Just came up in conversation tonight that the same sensor at the DPF on the PD models were changed.

Recall code in question is 26e6.

That had been done on mine, but even after this update the newer sensor became faulty too (after about 60tkm).

Heard of pressure sensor problems on the CR in Germany too. So not only the PD is affected.

Its just that my car doesnt seem to have had the recall upgrade as there is no sticker in the boot of the car as a record it has been done. There was on another car that had been done.

Worth the question surely. Might get it swapped over without too much hassle.

Youve been a big help magic62. Thanks mate.

The 26E6 update was for the PD engines, not for the CR.

As it is a well known problem throughout the VAG range, it should be done on warranty.

Only problem could be that they dont have any of the sensors in stock. In Germany some of the users had enormous problems getting their cars fixed, because of a shortage of the sensors.

Always willing to help if I can. You're welcome!

cheers

Ah, i see. So wouldnt affect my car anyway. Cool no worries.

Hopefully there is another upgrade to these sensors then for the CR models and its replaced on warrenty.

Will update the thread once the car is back with me. ;)

Cheers again Mike.

I had the same problem. I called out Skoda Assist - the chap was there is an hour or so and it was on a sunday. It was the DPF pressure sensor. Technician fixed it there and then . Its been good as new since.

Just so you dont feel alone, looks like Fiat have a similar issue Bl**dy DPF.

I have had a regen cycle then engine mgmt warning - no limp mode, dealer did a manaul regen, was ok till next regen, same thing dpf light out, engine mgmt warning, no limp mode. Back to dealer for manual regen, car returned, but am now getting a regen every 40-45 miles, but no engine mgmt warning, car goes to dealer tomorrow to be sorted.

They think the DPF sensor is not recording back to ECU that regen has been successful, so its triggering them repeatedly, i had been expecting horrendous MPG return as advised by the manual, but its been normal, so either the manual is wrong, OR the regen isnt actually doing anything.

If it is doing regens, i should have an exceedingly clean DPF when they sort the sensor out emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

I HATE DPF's!!!!!!

I will not buy another car with such a poorly developed and tested solution to reducing emissions, they suck!!!

RANT OVER!!!!

RANT OVER!!!!

I think removal is going to become more & more common, especially as cars get older & people are faced with the cost of replacing failed units.

Not only does it get rid of the thing but performance & fuel economy will both improve. Removing it & a remap is probably cheaper than a new dpf

Stuart, I've done exactly that, thinking that I had future proofed my car against the inconvenience of the dpf. Can't fault the power increase and marginally better mpg. The problem is when something goes wrong and all the local garages have a thrombo at the thought of working on a remapped car!!!

We shouldn't have to tinker around with our cars to get over the problems arising from the dpf, they should be properly designed and tested so they don't f*ck up!

You've got me ranting again!!! lol ;)
