Just gave my car a wash and its covered in tar. Whats the best / fastest way of removing this. Should I clay it, never done this before, or should I use some magic product I dont know of.

Clay would do the job but u would have to be pretty rough to get it done depending on the state of the tar and bugs. I would recommend Auto-glym tar remover. All you do is spray liberally, leave for a few minutes and basically wipe off. For the stuff that doesn't come off, re-apply and aggitate was a wash mitt or similar and it should come off no probs. I have the same problem all the time and i drive a yellow octy and it sticks out like a sore thumb those tar marks. This stuff does wonders. And resonably priced too.

GOOD LUCK!!!!emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Thanks, Ill pick some up for the weekend. Want to get it waxed again before the winter sets in.

auto smart tardis seems to be the best recommended one.

Another great suggestion there with the autosmart tardis. That IS good stuff. I never use it though as im not too sure of the dilution ratio. I just buy the pre-mixed stuff. However another top drawer suggestion there.

Sure is, no dilution required, just spray on, watch it work and then wipe off..........

You can use specialist products like Autosmart Tardis

BUT

I use White spirit sprayed on, left a couple of minutes, then wiped clean with a soft MF cloth.

Dirt cheap and effective

Another vote for TARDIS

Where do you get this "Tardis" from?

You can buy Tar removers from most detaining manufactures (AG, Megs etc). I would be too scared to use white spirit (or even thinners), however WD-40 works. I was told by a member on here (Smog Monster I think) that you should not spay it direct, but spray into a rag or cloth then wipe over the spots. I have used it to remove excess wax oil.

Gt 85 is better and cheaper than wd40, sprayed on a plenty< bounty, as used to be > kitchen roll , comes off instantly, in cycle section at halfords

Tardis is best sourced direct from Autosmart, you can find your local rep online, worth pointing out it's 98% White Spirit I believe and it's ok to put directly onto paintwork..........

Dont be scared to use White Spirit at all. Its VERY safe and as I say, dirt Cheap and effective.....

BTW..Dont use thinners..Its not safe and will not dissolve tar like Whie Spirit does

hiya ,i always use wd-40 soak a micro-fibre cloth and just wipe tar spots off easy ,job done

another vote for Tardis

Nobody use autoglym intensive tar remover? ITR-325ML.jpg it works really well, just squirt on and watch it dissolve the tar. I have used it for years and never had any issues with it causing damage to the paint etc. It smells potent though!

Tardis for tough bits, then clay the full car imo.

I bought some Tardis a couple of weeks ago, it has to be one of the best products I have bought. I spray it on and lightly aggitate with a small detailing brush, the tar just dissolves and then I give the panel a quick wipe down with a bucket and wash mitt.

Aggitate the paintwork with a small brush? You should just be able to leave Tardis to do it's thing and then wipe off with a microfibre cloth?

Seconded. It's always worked fine for me (after Baker recommended trying it) by just spraying on a panel, leaving for a few minutes then wiping down with an MF cloth.

Just heed the advice to keep the MF you use COMPLETELY separate to any other products you have! And don't try to wash it. After you've used it, you'll understand why. I can still smell Tardis in the garage and I last used it at the beginning of the 'summer'

Cheers,

Steve

Another vote for WD40, lifts tar immediately.

heres a question about tardis as I think im going to need some

Ive just picked up a white car so its had the full works yesterday of layered coats of carlack nsc and the sealant then vics concours for good measure :)

If I include tardis in my regualr wash for the tar spots will it strip the wax and sealant so Ill have to reapply it?

Yep you'll need to re wax the areas you've used Tardis on

small drop of petrol on an old cloth, wipes straight off!

valetPro glue and tar remover works good for me.
