Uniroyal rainsport 2

Featured Replies

I know that there are loads of 'which tyre is best' threads but i have seen very little written about the uniroyal rainsport 2's, good or bad. They seem to be a bit of a favorite within the fabia massive but has anyone used them on an octy vrs? and if so, what are they like? they seem good value and im considering a set when it comes to changing my current rubber.

You're right everybody seams to rave about them in the Furby section. I'm temped to buy them when my Toyos wear down. They came second in the latest EVO mag tyre test, although some of the major companies did not submit tyres, also it was tested with a RWD car (MX-5).

They seam to get good reviews on tyrereviews.co.uk, although one comment said, they have soft sidewalls that makes the car roll more.

I have them on the front 225/40/18 of my Octavia PD TDi Vrs

soon to have them on the rear

You will not find a better tyre in the wet

Excellent grip in the dry, a bit noisy but there good

I've got a brand new set of these on my Mk1 Octy vRS 215/45/ZR17 size and have to agree they are noisy, however I've found them to be very good in the dry under hard cornering and superb in the wet, I'd certainly recommend them for the price they are, you'll struggle to beat them, just remember its normally wet all the time in this lovely country so these are ideal!!!!

I'm running a set of 225 45 17's and hey are really good in the wet and compared to the goodyear F1's they replaced are a lot quieter, also found a small fitter that can do them very cheap.

My fitter is also quite small, about 5 foot 4 I'd say....... :giggle:

You wont be disappointed.

Autoexpress recently did a tyre test with these fitted to an MKII oct VRS and the results were not that good tbh. Good for aquaplanning, but many of the performance tyres had better results in the wet cornering tests than the rainsport 2s!

Note that these are designed for rain dispersal, as such they lose grip far quicker in dry conditions, especially under hard driving so your driving style will dictate if these are suitable. For all round day to day regular driving though they will be fine.

I have them on mine (the car came with them alreadty fitted) and i've not had any probs. I won't be using them long term though, I'd favour something like the F1 assyemtrics for all round driving.

Yeah I read the Auto Express test, but it didnt seem to be done very scientifically so to speak.Ragged it round a track good time=good tyre,no mention of how it feels etc.And as you say the Rainsport was good in the tests that actually had some measure ie the aquaplanning. At least the Evo magazine seam to do it properly and the different drivers give feed back on all the tests, including a varied type of roads test, then collate the data and pick a winner.Which isnt always the Continental as they are using Contys test track lol.

I've used these on the area car, very good tyre, good grip wet & dry, progressive nature & wear is OK 14K on the front (driven very hard). By comparison only Michelin primacy HP's last longer.

I also have a set of these on my Octy and I love them, just hope the cope ok in the snow!

Got mine fitted today, felt good on the way home, and a lot quieter than I was expecting, due to the tread pattern. Will update when I've put so miles on them.Bring on the rain.

for proper wet you will not find a better tyre, they displace water very effectively and give unbelievable grip for the conditions.

In the dry however, depending what you are used to, the tread squirms around a lot and offers less than optimum dry grip/handling. They will also wear quite heavily in the dry unless used quite gently.

A lot will depend on your driving style and expectations, there are lot better tyres in the dry but if you only drive to get from A to B they will be fine in most circumstances.

After reading all the reviews (tyrereviews.co.uk) on this Uniroyal tyre I have just purchased two from Event Tires at a cost of £118.00 fitted.
