Another Police crash

I read about this yesterday

Indeed they have alot of explaining to do, and the owners not going to be to pleased either :giggle:

On the plus side it wasn't a Skoda emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

very responsible of them to seize it , taking an unfit driver off the road! :giggle:

On the other hand, if the owner/driver hadn't been potentially over the limit the car wouldn't have been seized in the first place :dull:

Tough luck I say, but it doesn't excuse the police officer who totalled it

I would expect them to be seriously disciplined and possibly sacked. They were agianst force policy and I think its preety clear (and the investigation should show) driving well above the speed limit.

But presumably he's still "innocent until proven guilty" though. I guess they must have had good cause to arrest him, but on the other hand it may not have been their best day for judgement calls.

trouble is the guy now doesn't have the inconvienience of having to sell the car at knockdown price when banned, the police will end up paying well over the odds plus compensayshun no doubt these officers need sacking, after all recovery had been called for the car, both officers were in it,so it was a blatent jolly, and people wonder why confidence in police officers is at an all time low!!!!

Yep, good isn't it!

Just down the road from me this - thankfully I went the country way to work yesterday morning, as I heard later on the radio that the road was closed! It made the Radio2 travel which I thought was impressive

What a pair of idiots - if you were to see the road, a 30mph main road, you'd be scratching your head to see how they managed it. They've made an impressive mess as well :wonder:

I'll probably pass that way later, so I'll note the exact location and post up a Google maps/Streetview for you :)

Cheers,

Steve

Walked up there and took some pictures. See what you think :dull:

General view of the scene. You can see the 'shadowing'/tyre marks diagonally across the roadway, at a fairly aggressive angle! Ignore the straight skid marks, these look to be fairly recent, from a truck:

Close-ups of the damaged area. A fair bit of damage. Actually surprised it didn't hit the house, as there's not a whole lot of room at this point between the boundary, garden and house:

View back directly from the point of impact, showing where the car had travelled from:

Another shot to show the road conditions:

Impact marks at the far end of the 'island', plus police chalk marks:

Lastly, a shot to show more of the road ahead:

Not the most challenging piece of road you'll ever see, I think we have to conclude!

A link to Streetview, so you can have a browse about if you wish. For reference, they would have crashed straight through the side of the silver Nissan Note ;)

I think they must have been p*ssed ;)

lol this dam funny

If I was the house holder I'd have shoved that camera some where........ :dull: Don't you think they've been through enough??

Err I'm sorry? I was on a public footpath! And for your information nobody came out anyway. I wasn't annoying anyone or invading any privacy. Merely taking photos for my own, and others information, of what public servants have been getting upto.

OK?

Nice one Wardy it all makes sense now after seeing the hairpin! :giggle:

Careful or they'll be along to have a go under the terrorism act ;)

I have to say I can only imagine it was wet and the traction change between the road and the small repair you can see in the first pic had the car moving sideways a bit.

At that point they must have been going one heck of a speed.

As for the guy, has anyone proved he was ****ed yet? If he's been found not to have been DUI, then one could suggest that the police only nicked him so they could have a drive of the car.

After all they broke policy by driving it back and not towing it, so who is to say they wouldn't abuse their powers too.

A little bit of proof of the drivers guilt would probably be a good idea.

Wasn't wet on Thurs evening/Friday morning here Mark.

I drove down the same stretch of road yesterday evening in the dark. The road is well lit so it's not as if the route the road takes could have been doubted.

Perhaps they were mucking about with the stability/traction/yaw systems? Who knows...

I'm sure it'll all come out in the wash, but I'd be very interested to hear the complete details once it's all been investigated.

More likely they were ragging the tits off it, especially seeming as though they shouldn't have been driving it in the first place

What insurance would be in place for them to drive it anyway?

Its my understanding plod dont insure, they just pay any claims

If I were the owner of the Evo I would say nothing to the Police & hand it all to a lawyer, It "on the face of it" looks a clear cut case, whatever is said thats not a 30 mph bump. its just the settlement to agree

Devon and Cornwall's vehicles show up on askmid, as me and my mate were having a debate as to whether the local bmw 5 series was a 530d or 530 petrol, askmid revealed it to be a 530d, but god it was quick

So was the one that stopped me for a chat on the M6 toll :wall:

The driver of the evo was 23...........if he was insured..........How much was his insurance i wonder! :)

They would have to be insured to comply with the requirements of the Road Traffic Act. I'm not aware of any clauses which negate the need to insure the vehicle just cos the police are driving. They can't be driving it under the driver's insurance (unless there's some sort of common "incl Police drivers" clause) and clearly that specific vehicle is not included in a specific policy with the police, so authorised police drivers must be covered under "any vehicle" basis.

Policy is either different in that area or has changed since I left.

In Bedfordshire, if we nicked anyone for being over the limit we often used to drive their car back to the nick and park it up in the front car park. It was cheaper than recovery and more secure than leaving it at the scene. Come to that, we once stopped a car in Bedford for having a light out and it turned out the driver was drunk. When the other officer went to drive the car away we noticed that the ignition had been screwed (a check then revealed it had been stolen), tax was stolen from another vehicle and on the way back to the nick he coughed to five more similar offences!

Anyway, maybe they will just say they were "testing the car, familiarising themselves with it"emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

When this happened, I only opened the story and saw police crash yellow evo and paid no attention to where it was... Until I see it in the local paper tonight and realise its only down the road from me. As wardy says this is just a stretch of 30mph on the main road through the village. Nothing challenging to it, probably doing something silly.

Form the pictures it looks like they were heading out of Hale Barns, now, if I expected something sills to happen it would be on the M56 J6 roundabout as you exit to come down Hale Rd, toward Hale Barns. I don't know about anyone else but the ripples in the road surface there have me twitching like a ****ting dog every time I come past.

Correct, yes - they were heading out of Hale Barns in the direction of the M56 roundabout. The incident was just past the garage.

That roundabout is strange, it's always been like that - no idea why. Properly rippled! There is a reasonable amount of grip available though. It is the reason they split the traffic coming down from Cargo Centre though, so they didn't have the issue of two lanes of traffic heading round towards the Hale Rd junction (you still see people attempt it though, now and again). But the roundabout in the locale with easily the least amount of grip is the Baguley roundabout onto the M56/Princess Parkway though - known as 'Drift Roundabout' ;)

Steve
