octavia 1.6CR how are they going

Featured Replies

Ridiculous. So I shall keep my eye on Exeos from now on. But it still looks like I'll have to have a blasted DPF !!

I am not saying there is anything wrong with the old Audi A4, but are you aware this is what the Exeo is? It's a bit like the days of MK2 Astra becoming a Daewoo.

Do you live at the top of a hill and have a 1800-mile downhill trip to work..?

I drove to my father's last night and managed 64.1mpg there and 38.7 on the way back. my father was in the car for only one of those two journeys. 64.1 is the best I've ever got on that journey, the worst being under 32...

On my normal journey to work I get about 55 on the way there with the cruise control set to about 65-70, and about 65 on the way back. The other journey I do regularly to my gym is a slow 6 mile round trip through heavyish traffic and I get about 47.

The Exeo is overpriced, cramp and simply doesn't look right with the Seat rebadging. There is nothing about it that's better than an Octavia. I had a look at one before going for my current car and it took all of 5 minutes to dismiss it.

Yep its all in the control of the right foot.

Anticipate, and drive smooth, plus keeping the revs down & utilizing the torque through the gears.

A man at work here changed from a petrol to a diesel and was disappointed with the mpg from the diesel.

I mentioned that from my observations he was still driving it like a petrol i.e on the revs.

He has eventually been converted to diesel driving, took a while though.

We should be taking delivery of a 1.6 diesel DSG Octavia on Friday.

I will then be able bore younz with the mpg's ad inifitum. & 60's are expected

Currently showing 51.4 mpg on a 1.9TDI Galaxy ( over 90 plus hrs at 30 odd mph = 2700 miles,(with 1000 mptorway miles plus Cornwall in there) with about 5% error = near 49mpg actual.) This is normal for summer driving, less in the winter.

cheers

Be interested to see what a DSG does, really wanted one as my previous car had it but couldn't justify the 5% emissions increase as it's a company car.

No harm in hoping chaps.

but by extrapolation iffen I can get what i am getting outta the Galaxy, it being bigger & heavier & bluffer, sureley a slippery, lighter CR Octavia should be significently more efficient??

Whilst i like an automatic, the stingy bugger in me would live with a manual for the extra economy, cept the wifes knees are knackered with arthrits and she NEEDS an auto, and the dry DSG seems to be the best comprimise yet.

Though Honest John appears to prefer Ford's Twinshift/powershift alternative to the DSG.

cheers

  • 2 weeks later...

Back doing my normal journey mine according to the MFD is on 58.6.

That's 71 hrs of driving, average speed of 32.

Those are not calculated figures. Is mine the only one that reports higher than 100 MPG on the instant readout?

I saw 200mpg on the display on my Petrol VRs yesterday. Not for very long however....

  • 4 weeks later...

I've just been on holiday in Sussex in my Greenline Combi, and thought I'd see what sort of consumption I got on the way back.

So, Ipswich to Gloucester on the A12, M25, A40, during the day (so avoiding rush hour traffic); 176 miles. I accelerated and braked as gently as I could (avoiding braking where possible) and used the cruise control to maintain a steady 56-57mph (on the gps, 60mph on the speedo) on all the dual carriageway and motorway sections and 50ish mph (on gps, subject to traffic) on the single carriageway sections.

At the end the trip computer showed 60.0mpg. Not bad, but bearing in mind the very gentle and restrained driving style, not brilliant. I suspect if there had been only me in the car rather than the 3 of us, the boot had been empty rather than full, I didn't have the weight of the dynamat and I had the original narrower wheels with Michelin Energy saver tyres on rather than the wider VRS wheels then I might have done a little better

As an aside or two...I've found a pretty failsafe way of reducing tyre and cabin noise; drive in the East of the country. I don't know what the difference in road surface is but it made a huge difference. Some roads were near-silent.

And I've noticed that the MkII FL speedo is a lot more accurate than the MkI. Typically the MkI would under read by 10%, the MkII is nearer 3-5%. That might not seem like a huge difference, but if you're comparing fuel consumptions when you cruise at 80mph on the speedo, then the MkI would be doing a real 72mph and the MkII would be doing a real 77mph

ok guys we had two new 1.6cr tdi's delivered at work monday, ive had a quick drive in one, must say coming out of my 2.0pd to the 1.6cr, it felt very flat and the car was empty, my car was full of my work things and ladders, found it more like a petrol in the driving style, wouldn't pull without changing down, spoke to one of the engineers that now has this car and he's getting around 47mpg but he is the slowest driver in the company lol, the other one will be running up the m180 twice a day so will see what he gets and how he finds it and report back. i still think this engine probably works better with the 7 speed dsg.

on the other side, we have a 2.0cr with the dsg coming soon, that one i cant wait to tryout, i really wished i ordered the dsg.

but for now im more than happy with my pd unit.

well i have had my 1.6CR now for just over a week, i really like it, yes its not the same as the old 1.9 but the power is fine for how i drive (its just different more petrol like) well i would not go back to the 1.9, this is just so quite and refined, i drove my wifes fabia vrs 1.9 yesterday and i was glad to get back into my 1.6 (thats me getting old i guess, i just like the comfort and the quite engine) anyway first tank full mpg was 55.4mpg on maxidot and 53.4 on brim to brim, so for a new tight car i am happy with that, lets just hope a few more miles and it gets better still, only thing i did notice was half the tank was done with 4 in the car and luggage and half with just me and no luggage and its so much better with just me in, about 7-8 mpg where my old 1.9 was only affected by about 2mpg, which is fine for me as 95% of the time is with just me in.
