That's surely obvious Col - your MX5 will spin MUCH quicker than a Furby :dull:

Nothing is faster than a Furby...cant you all get it into your thick skulls ! :giggle:

I know for a fact it's a Furby, I've had a couple of bouts with a local one and he's left behind every time.

Yea! That's Him!! Always want's to race me!

Mind you if you think you had problems with having to do traffic lights Grand Prix with an Impreza, wait till you get an Atom...

I know of an occasion where a fabia vRS did try and race an atom.

The atom was being driven as normal (not racing) and the rest is obvious.

Interesting thread. All I know is I lost all respect for Subaru's and Evo's once I hit 250bhp and threw my interior away.

I did however have buckets of respect for a certain 123d and it's driver. I still blame the damp and my inferior chassis/traction. emoticon-0100-smile.gif

You smoothie you. Whatcha driving these days? Hopefully something ridiculously overpowered and lacking in traction :D (still haven’t seen you on Ice Road Truckers yet).

This is to do with off the lights traction and is also relevant to the type of drivetrain, RWD off the line has, is and always will be better than FWD for it, my point is that its cant makes it round a track faster if it has less power and more weight simply due to it being RWD.

Well we are starting to get somewhere, with your agreement of the superior traction of RWD at the lights, to say nothing of the 4x4s advantage over FWD (a massive advantage if drven by a non-muppet). But the point was made to show RWD traction is a benefit, on track out of a courner or from rest. Acceleration shifts the weight back over the driven axel, not leaving the FWD axel spinning it’s wheels hopelessly because of way too much torque and far too little grip. Like I say, I will take on your FWD dragster with any identical RWD dragster of vaguely similar power to weight (and you can have the better ratio)

I wonder how many ft/lbs of torque that generates? Perhaps 2 pounding feets worth

I have my coat on already as it’s raining out………..

Your car also has a weapons system that throws rocks out of the exhaust pipe emoticon-0104-surprised.gifemoticon-0105-wink.gif

Shhhhhhhh!!!!.........Thats a secret remember :giggle:

Come on now Dave, tell the truth. You let Lady E keep up so she didn't get upset didn't you???? :D

He's on foot!!!! Last time I asked him that question he said he was on the look out for a crotch rocket though. Who needs four wheels eh?

If you see a Grey A4 3.0tdi stuck to your bumper and a mad woman laughing hysterically, at the wheel, you might find out how quick my current car is :D :D

I bet a 2l furby would get same sort of MPG I get now, even with a heavy right foot  Insurance cost would no doubt make it a no no though, lol.

if the mx5 is slower then they must be really rubbish :wonder:

i'd quite like an mx5 tbh, really nice to drive

lol im currently drunk and losing interest...i've not even properly read this ,but feeling like spreading the love...

not gonna argue anymore...but and its a big but...RWD isnt magic...end of.

Not sure really.. the MX5 isnt designed to be a fast car.. the mk1 1.8 is 130bhp and weighs just under a tonne.. its not quick off the line (just under 8s to 60 i think) but they can pick up their skirt and shift a bit once into 2nd and being driven "properly" - mate of mine in a 120d (170bhp) couldnt keep up up to around 80mph then he just sailed past as if i wasnt moving...

TBH i dont care... i have more fun in the MX5 on a single journey in the MX5 then ive ever had in any other car emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

ahh that explains it then, i blew one of those out the water in my pickup the other day.. have you ever heard of skoda-rage?? the biggest insult of all is to be challenged by a ****heap rusty skoda felicia, but imagine the sheer rage when you go past when they also realise it's a pickup truck.. it's ultimate double insult

i have to say that in my old age :giggle: i'd be inclined to agree, it's not all about going fast to be honest, it's a bout having fun... those who have met me will know that i'm built like the proverbial brick outhouse :giggle: and the thing that surprised me about the old school mx5 is how much room there is inside, i imagined it to be really cramped but i found it really comfy to drive

I recall some article from the late 80s pitting an Escort MK2 vs an Escort MK3. MK2 managed around 5.5 seconds 0-60, the MK3 they couldn't get under 7 seconds. Normally aspirated 1.6s in both, ISTR.

I love a quitter

Who said it was?

It’s more fun than FWD in 95% of cases imho. Besides, the real point is 4x4 wins the traction battle, plus the Scoobys torque being delivered high up, produces higher power (torque x revs = power), running through shorter gearing, means it’s quicker of the line than a lightly breathed on Furby.

If you want to refer to it as quitting you can, personally I belive it to be my lack of persistance for trying to educate pork.

RWD is not magic...traction I never disputed, performance I did, it cannot/is not/never will be faster than a lighter car with more power, it will have better traction off the line, that is all, rolling it would go backwards.

Againemoticon-0114-dull.gif, I have never said RWD is magic. You been watching Paul Daniels on Come Dancing and got a little inspired? emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Power is meaningless if it is over a very narrow band in a none responsive engine. So exactly how much power does your car produce? It must be a lot to be more than a Scoobys as you suggest, because Scoobys have been well into the 200 bhps for many years now. As I have posted (you might not have read it in your haze) once on the move (rolling?) The diesel torque would be great, if perhaps not enough. But we aren’t talking about rolling, we are talking about traffic light GPs
