My wife "whupped" a Subaru in the VRS

Againemoticon-0114-dull.gif, I have never said RWD is magic. You been watching Paul Daniels on Come Dancing and got a little inspired? emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Power is meaningless if it is over a very narrow band in a none responsive engine. So exactly how much power does your car produce? It must be a lot to be more than a Scoobys as you suggest, because Scoobys have been well into the 200 bhps for many years now. As I have posted (you might not have read it in your haze) once on the move (rolling?) The diesel torque would be great, if perhaps not enough. But we aren’t talking about rolling, we are talking about traffic light GPs

a subaru has greater transmission loss, and more weight at only 210bhp...mine hasnt been RR'd since the new turbo, but should be around the 200bhp mark.

I love this thread

thats a pretty low figure, unless the Scooby was really old. Perhaps it is as has been suggested...........broken :D

I meant to add this bit below to your previous post, but I was high from sniffing glue, tired from a 28 hour day and hurt deeply by your name calling..............

I think your days of educating Pork may well be numbered, as I can’t actually understand half of your post? Did you say you were drunk/tired/not bothering to read my post fully? :D

I love this thread emoticon-0148-yes.gif

They managed their comebacks whilst drunk, disinterested and overly tired too

I have to say your reference to the kerb weight has been bothering me (I am pretty sure they were not a heavy car, well mine weren't) as you seem to think the Scooby is a heavy car. If it was an early one (around 210bhp), it’s kerb weight would have been around 1235kg. Wasn’t the Fabia’s around 1315kg

okaaaaaaaaaaay.......

subaru wrx - 215bhp weight 1385kgs = bhp per tonne - around 160bhp

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/Detail.aspx?deriv=26138

fabia vrs - remapped to 180bhp? weight 1315kgs = bhp per tonne - around 140bhp

bhp per tonne calculator - http://www.letstorquebhp.com/calculator.asp

20bhp difference per tonne to the subaru, however my fabia on its first RR lost 30bhp transmission loss through two wheels...which is pretty good tbh, a clio sport for example is 172 at the fly and 130ish at the wheels anyways...Subaru 2x as many wheels = more transmission loss, for example purposes, we'll double the fabia's loss? so 60bhp? or if we're generous 50bhp loss? meaning that after the weight and the transmision loss the figures are pretty close....

VRSDanny's made more comebacks that Status Quo

and they are still rubbish :giggle:

VRSDanny's comebacks, or Status Quo? ;)

why are they?

3 chords over and over.. rock and roll i tells ya :wonder:

can't believe this thread is still going on.... :|

ahh that explains it then, i blew one of those out the water in my pickup the other day.. have you ever heard of skoda-rage?? the biggest insult of all is to be challenged by a ****heap rusty skoda felicia, but imagine the sheer rage when you go past when they also realise it's a pickup truck.. it's ultimate double insult

i have to say that in my old age :giggle: i'd be inclined to agree, it's not all about going fast to be honest, it's a bout having fun... those who have met me will know that i'm built like the proverbial brick outhouse :giggle: and the thing that surprised me about the old school mx5 is how much room there is inside, i imagined it to be really cramped but i found it really comfy to drive

The mx5 is one of those cars where you *do* have to absolutely kick the knackers out of it to make brisk progress.. its a classic jap 16v engine, is flat and boring to 5k and then goes mental up to the limiter emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

as mentioned, i think the fact is you can give it quite a bit of abuse without going fast enough to risk your licence.. mine gets several trips to the redline even on the trip to work through manc town centre.. and with a full stainless zorst and induction kit.. it sounds rather rude when its hot too with pops and bangs on the overrun emoticon-0110-tongueout.gif

Subaru 2x as many wheels

An 8 wheeled Subaru? Awesome! :giggle:

lol smart arse...it was late and i was tired...

ha, it's threads like this which is the main reason i seldom ever bother coming into the fabia section... epic..

p.s, also i've heard that if you fold your seats down flat in the back it can give you an extra 100bhp so you can take on cossies

he makes a good point emoticon-0148-yes.gif

The thing with the Scooby is it will not only launch better, but also be running a much shorter final drive ratio at any given speed. As Power is torque times revs, you would need to know things like the final drives, to calculate things just from the figures (to say nothing of drag etc). I have left a remapped furby in my wake with my 123D and know that a Scooby in reasonable nick would murder my 123D off the line and up to a healthy speed (as I said before I had a real side by side go at an M3 and we got up to a pretty decent speed before he could begin to pull away). Only at motorway speeds would the 123D start to reel the Scooby in.

I would be impressed if there were any second hand Scoobys that had been left un-modded too, especially ones driven by guys who rev their engines at traffic lights. In fact if you can hear a Scooby rev, then it probably has had something done to it. Especially the older base turbo cars, as they are surprisingly quiet and just make a soft thrumming sound when revved.

Btw the weight I quoted was for a 210bhp 1997 model (as this is the figure quoted)

I remember a thread about something daft like that. Can’t remember where it is though?? T’was very funny though

Works in my Octy

I also take the tyres off....................................can't be doing with all that extra weight

Putting your head out the window and blowing in a rearwards direction takes 0.45 seconds off your 0-60 (approx 14 bhp equivalent) and aids fuel economy too (as long as your breathe in pointing forwards)

I thought Skoda ‘Octys’ were 8 wheel drive (well a Quattro is only 4), unless Octy stands for something other than 8 that is

well there could be some actual real science behind that.... if you reduce the rolling diameter of the wheels you are effectively lowering the gear ratio, so you need less torque per revolution becuase the engine turns more for the same amount of distance travelled, or in simple terms you accelerate faster at the expense of extra noise

believe is or not there is science in this too!! i read somewhere in a book about the schneider trophy, by directing the exhuast gasses rearwards this produces an extra 100 pounds of thrust purely by exhuast gasses being forced out

has this gone off topic now??

I would love to comment on this thread, but I can't for fear of upsetting almost everyone...

Oh feck it I will...

These are all facts.

The MX5 is one of the bestist cars ever made.

Imprezas/Evos et al are usually driven by dickheads.

Fabia vrS's aren't fast, but are entertaing to drive, and driven properly can suprise a lot of more 'exotic' vehicles.

A good driver in a POS will beat, hands down, a crap driver in ANY performance car all day long.

I am not the worlds best driver by any means, but I'm not bad, and I DID whup the ass off an Impreza trying to show off one day going to work at dark O'clock when I had The Skip. I scared myself silly. and nearly killed myself, but I had to prove a point ( I am a stubborn fecker ) and I proved it.

I haven't the car to do it in atm, but if anyone wants to lend me their vRS to prove a point................
