Six month wait?

Featured Replies

I've just come off the phone with the broker who's ordered my Yeti......

I ordered the car on August 6th and was initially told that I could expect delivery at the end of October. Following some of the posts here, I expected that things would slip back a little, but I've now been told that the allocated build week is 02 and so i can expect delivery sometime in February!

Is this something that others have heard, or should I be suspicious?

Who have you ordered from?

Did you order a sunroof?

Probably best if I didn't identify the broker at this stage!

No - no sunroof (I'd already read the warnings!) The car is a 140PS 4x4 SE in Black Pearl and the only options are the off-road button, spare wheel and Bluetooth/multispoke steering wheel. Not even the satnav that may or may not be causing delays for others.

Good luck!!!!

I'd say at the earliest you are looking at mid-end of November. Unless the broker already had an order in the pipeline and it was just a simple spec/colour change.

EDIT- Sorry misread your post. If you ordered in August getting it in Feb seems a little extreme. Is it manual or DSG?

No - no changes since the order (although I've been tempted by the posts about Tangerine!!) It's a manual.

I'm just concerned that the fact that the order has 'slipped back' by three months might be an indication that it might only have been ordered now and not on August 6th. The reason for posting the question was to ask if anyone else has been told they face a six month wait for a Yeti ordered in early August.

I've been quoted 18 - 24 weeks by a dealer (not a broker) no sunroof or satnav involved.

Depending on your broker you may wish to get Skoda UK involved. PM me if you want.

Thanks Fred. When did you get that quote?

Been speaking to my two local dealers over the last week or so re Fabia's, anyway did also discuss Monsters as you do and they both stated a late January delivery for an order placed now.

TP

I quoted Fred_Bristol end Jan/early Feb which I think its very realistic.

I've just been quoted 20-24 weeks by Autofinders for an Elegance 110bhp 4x4 diesel, but they had the decency to remind me that if it was into the new year, there would be an extra 21/2 % VAT applied. So I've started looking around for a used one. As expected, they're pretty thin on the ground, mostly demonstrators, one or two private, but what amazed me was that even for cars with 6000 miles on the clock, the prices are within spitting distance of RRP new, and even above quotes from brokers such as Autofinders and Carquake. What happened to "The value goes down by £2000 as soon as it leaves the showroom?" Supply and demand, I suppose. Oh, well.......

It seems that Jan/Feb is pretty accurate. I've just spoken to the supplying dealer and build week 02 is about right, which would indeed make it six months from order to delivery.

It seems I have no option if I want an SM, so just be warned that you have a wait on your hands if you order now (or if you ordered in August and thought you'd be getting your car before Xmas and the VAT increase).

Thanks for your help and comments folks!

Hi,

Believe SUK are covering the extra VAT on orders placed before the end of this month, might not apply to a broker mind. Regard used you may have to travel to find a 'bargin' there are one or two at decent-ish prices but the big used discounts are to be had on the less popular 1.8TSI.

Regards,

TP

If you order before the end of the month the VAT increase won't affect you.

It wasn't James at Allams who gave me that 18-24 weeks minimum delivery time, his estimate was18-22 weeks.

I hope James is right and not the forest folk,

Even that's going to feel like ages.

Mind you - if its mid-February I will be very tempted to have it registered 1st March as an 11 plate.

This thread reminds me why I hang around and buy ex-stock nowadays.

Maybe don't get 100% of what I would like, but on the other hand I don't die of old age either.

Yes, I think that if I was ordering now I would be tempted to ask what was available rather than agonising over my perfect spec from the brochures. TheYeti looks good in all colours, after all.....

Exactly what I did!

That's what we did. It came early in August so we hung on for three weeks so it still looked new for a bit.

Delivery times are long at the moment, Skoda must be doing a LOT of business. Our Greenline Fabia has slipped back a month or so too...

We were quite impressed that we managed to order and take delivery of a Fabia within 3 months including the summer shut down and the tragic flooding which effected one of the suppliers. The car was scheduled to be built Wk34, then came forward to Wk33 but I'm pretty convinced by date stamps on the car and on the delivery sticker that in the end it was probably built early in WK34. By unbelievable luck it arrived at the dealers at the end of WK35 :) and is now sat on the drive end of WK36 B) B)

I did ask what was available in the system, new or used, and 1.2 TSI SE DSG did not come up, although some did fleetingly appear in Autotrader etc. when I couldn't get to them quickly for various reasons. They didn't hang around. Usually they were not much below new price and sometimes more, but I didn't get chance to try and negotiate so I don't know what the end price was.

In the end I opted to order a new one - only time will tell if it was the right decision. There might be loads of them next week or next month, right colour and everything. There is well known law about these things - but I don't want to upset the moderators!

I was told 19weeks, I couldn't wait that long!, so i grabbed the showroom model, the same spec I wanted 140 4x4 elegence, and had them fit a sat nav. The only drawback was the colour, Anthrasite Grey, I suppose I'll love it in time:yes:. By the way, does any one know what to do with the original radio and cd unit, I found in the boot?

Ebay ??

It really amazes me that despite the worldwide recession, manufacturers still cannot tool up to meet the demand for their vehicles from those people wtill able to spend money! Why aren't they rubbing their hands with glee and expanding production to meet the demand? Skoda's only keeping sales because other manufacturers are also failing to meet the demand for their vehicles. Not suprisingly, all Mini Coutrymen are now sold out until the new year too - and yuo can't even see one in a showrom yet.

To be fair though, a manufacturer has to guestimate likely demand for a new car, and particularly now on the back of a recession, its not the easiest thing in the world, and on the flip side of that is manufacturers just cannot afford to have acres of unsold cars as has often been the situation in the past. Its moving much more towards almost a custom build on demand situation, but not quite.
