powerflex dog bone mount bush!

Featured Replies

At the risk of appearing a total and complete berk, wtf is a dog-bone mount and why is it considered such an important mod?

It is the lower engine gearbox support bracket that attaced from under the gearbox to the front chassis cross member. It contains rubber bushes and is designed to compress and extend to allow the engine to move during acceleration, braking and during gear changes . The torque from the engine gearbox causes it to move under engine load.

On standard none turbo vehicles the original bushings do a reasonable job at dampering the engine load, but on a 1.8 turbo engine even std and especially with mods, the bush is not really up to the job and the results are(certainly from a worn bush) is excess gearbox / engine movement whilst changing gears and this reduces driver feedback. Also can lead to wheel hoping when the engine load does get picked up by the support bracket and you end up with a short wheel spin.

It is named Dogbone cause it look's like one .

Folks replace the rubber bushes with a harder material like the Powerflex or super pro bushes which reduce engine movement under acceleration, braking and the flexing of the gearchange.

Some downside to that is more vibration in the cabin from the stronger bushes which does die down after bedding in.

Hope this helps

sorry, I don't understand how SPF2576K fits in the equation? How is this applicable? If you look at http://www.ottawa-vdubbing.com/forums/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=13397 what step would this fit in?

Am about to do relace rubber on dogbone and am looking for something on the soft side as will not be tracking the beast, but equally am suffering from wheel hop atm

TIA

Hi there , although SPF2576K does not fit into any instructions on that link or any steps, i think what Luca's point he was putting across is that the front bush is also the week point in the dogbone support. The pics and discussion is generally talking about the rear bush( 2 part kit) but some folks don't like changing that rear bush for poly ones for the point you are mentioning. ( too hard and lots of vibration in cabin, certainly in first few hundred miles) So if you renew the rear bush with OEM but add SPF2576K to the front part you get 17% better support over standard. Which will help your wheel hop.

P.S interesting link you put in there too

Shame they sold out i would be interested

Yes Mark, i have both superpro SPF2577-80K and SPF2575K, i chose SPF2575K over SPF2576K after talking to pri racing, and them suggesting 2 solid poly mounts might be too much for road use in terms of vibration, the uspide is the 575K is a lot easier to fit too and imo massivly helps the usual uprated dogbone bush when fitted in conjuction.

As you said, the point is only upgrading one will stress the other, so for what it costs (and ease of fitting) its well worth putting 575K on there too!

thought you did, that's my next job then.

along with possibly replacing the TIP as I think i have a hole in mine(or at least gone through 3 cores) wear the Evap pipe rubbed. :'(

Hi Both

Just about to buy SPF2577-80K and SPF2575K, but haven't a clue on how to fit these. Are any instructions provided? Does it deviate a lot from the Ottawa DBub linky?

Just looking to stop the wheelhop but without sacrifying ride comfort (baby and wife you see...)

Thanks

that sucks about your tip, not cheap the forge ones either, will you buy another or go with another make?

G-slave, the main bush as per the ottowa site, is as explained. The front bush literally sandwiches the existing bush, half either side if that make sense with the bolt through the middle. Dont think it comes with instructions, but its obvious when you look at it, the bushes are sculpted to fit into the recesses in the existing bush.

Doing this bush will be less harsh than a full bush replacement.

If you are worried about harshness, why dont you just fit the main DB bush for now, do the other later.

I dont think its too harsh imo, and really does stop the wheel hop in conjunction with the correct other parts.

riiiiiight so

Front one; replace with Superpro SPF2577-80K AND add SPF2575K for good measure

Rear one, don't touch or replace with OEM one in order to maintain a certain comfort and reduce wheelhop.

(now I just need to work out what you mean with 'front' and 'rear', is your front my front?

no g-slave....

the main dogbone bush is SPF2577-80K, yellow one in the ottowa thread (it sits further back on the car than the front bush which is SPF2575K)

front bush is the one in the thread that has a black bracket coming out of the end, its a round bush inset into the other end of the dog bone mount

lol

you do realise that the ottawa thread has both blue, yellow and black rubbers,...

Got a picture of SPF2577-80K and SPF2575K fitted to yours?

Shall i just buy SPF2577-80K and SPF2575K and this in order to maintain comfort, but reduce wheelhop? Will this achiece the desired effect? I have tried to call Pri all day long today only to hear their Friday voicemail...and I need this to be delivered by Wednesday morning as I have planned dinner and an afternoon of playing in the pit

TIA

yes they are all the same bush, black being stock and yellow and blue being upgrades.

for comfort fit stock

for performance fit poly rear bush

for more performance fit poly front bush or insert as well as rear bush fitting

as said, dogbone will reduce wheelspin/hop alongside decent tyres and other associated uprated parts like coilovers.

I barely have any wheelspin/hop nowdays with my setup

Right can someone tell me if the rear dog bone is the same as the front one??? will the bushes fit both as I have ordered 1 set from awsome and need to know what ones are what?

once the mount is off its clear which bush goes where as one is slightly bigger than the other.

yes mate only 1 mount which is my pic earlier in the thread, you will get 2 bushes in the pack which when you remove the mount will see where they fit as one is hidden as it bolts into the subframe. the round bushes you've seen are the front but from what i can gather are a pitta to fit hence the other option is what oet has posted

confusion confusion...............

Si, there are 2 bushes on the dog bone, the rear which comes in 2 parts, and the front pressed insert...

this can be uprated with a new bush or a split insert

dog bone.....2 ends............bushes go either end

is the front worth upratinfg with the http://www.priracing.com/product.php/1471/304/vag---lower-engine-support-front-void-fill-bushes which i assume bolts over the original bush?

or

http://www.priracing.com/product.php/1472/304/vag---lower-engine-support-front-bush which replaces the bush?
