Jason' date=' "Yep, I still think that was partially to blame for the sudden snapping out of my back end going around that corner", it didn't get me :P[/quote']

 :P me with my crappy back tyres didn't help either. Another co-incidence perhaps.

Xavier, I'll echo everyone elses comments and say at least you and the better half are ok and uninjured. Now onto the important topic. When you replace the Fabia as they will surely not fix it, the question on everybodies lips (well mine) is:

If you gety another vRS, what colour will it be????

Black (again)

Silver or will you be different and choose

Red or

Yellow

Ouch! Xav - glad you are OK mate that looks terrible! I bet it all happened in slow motion when you think about it didn't it?

OI!!! :nono:

I don't have substandard ICE in my car!

Colin, I did spend over an hour the following days of the accident at the depot to rip out all the ICE. 2 amps, speakers, crossovers, sub, parrot handsfree, tomtom wiring kit... Quite a lot of spaghetti now in my living room.

Plus, I already have the kickbuild pods and the rainbow speakers ready for the next furby.

I think you are better to have your car written off in the long run as you will get the physiological doubts that it isn't the same car
Yeah Colin, I know what you mean.

All I can do is await for the right furby to come along. I have some hope though that I won't have to wait for months ;)

wow. Those pictures have made me slow down (well, a bit anyway). Good to hear you both walked away from that one. I've seen a lot less scary looking accidents where the next stop was the hospital.

I've not driven a Furby but you say it's well planted on the road, just like the Octavia. You sometimes feel invincible coz of the handling, but something like this makes you think twice.

Im glad your OK. The FWD is an issue for me approaching corners at speed, i have very little confidence in the back end. With RWD cars ive had, they give you a clue as how much real grip you have going round a bend, when it gets less you let go off the gas, but with the octavia there is not a margin of safety as how much you have left.

Bloody hell mate. As others have said the main thing your both alright. Good luck with the insurance.

You'd be better off with the ECU Dave, i seem to recall you have a bit of a problem with Furbys ;)

 :hilarius:

Having said that, I think he's in the process of having a little more than just some ECU fettling

Flippin 'ell X! Glad you (and missus X) are ok though ! Not a well start of the new year :(

Sorry to hear of your little excursion Down Under Xav.........glad SWMBO and you are ok.

It's only metal....blah...blah...doesn't stop you feeling peed off with though?

All the best Dude!

p.s don't consider selling anything to J unless he gives you 50% of his profit. ;):D

Def a write off & probably wont even be brought back to the UK so if theres anything left in the car thats yours & you want back make it known to your Insurance company.

As others have said its only a car, you are Ok & nobody else was hurt & your insurance should cover most if not all your losses

Hmm. If it's a write off, and ins co don't want to have anything more to do with it, maybe I can go back with my locking wheel nut key, trolley jack, spanner or two, phillips screwdriver (anything else, Ross ? ;)) :D

Seriously, if the insurance want nothing to do with it, do you have storage potential in France? It would be nice if they paid out and you were able to keep the car down there for a bit. ;) Would be a shame to see it go on some pile in a French scrappy. :(

The reason it may well not come back is purely financial. The cost of hauling it back to the UK may well be more than the difference in scrap value here & in France, therefore the financial calculation will mean it stays abroad.

:( ;) Hmmmm. I agree. Trying to work out what it would cost me if I did a similar thing (I mean, again ;)) and had to haul something like that.

X sorry to see and hear about that mate, as others have said (albeit late) glad you and your mrsus are ok.

I feel for you and hope it's all sorted soon, being another black furby driver it's made me think abit, atleast it's a tough little beast!

  • 2 weeks later...

Xav, that looks horrible to say the least, but as everyone has said glad you both got out unscathed. What is the current situation on the furby? Any news from insurance? I noticed you have xenons, the one thing I don't have but wish I did, any chance of cutting me a deal :)

Well, here's an update:

the ins co is absolutely useless. Fortunately, I did get the details of the damage assessment co and have been in touch with them regularly, effectively "cutting out" the insurance "middle man" :)

The damage ass co had relayed the information to their branch in Paris and an engineer has now inspected the vehicle. A few days later and after some extensive faxing on my behalf, I know know that they have officially declared it a total loss. They said they had told the ins co so I rang back the ins co to see where they were with the whole thing. Reply: "We're still waiting for the report from the engineer"

So I'm now waiting for the ins co to get back to me and discuss my options. The only fear I do have is that the French engineer has passed on a 2nd hand price for the vehicle which is obviously 25-35% less than what the car's valued at in the UK. Although I don't see why he would have any influence on the valueing of the vehicle. However, I have printed out some 2nd hand prices from Skoda's website. For example, a red fabia vrs with no options regged in sept 03 and 16k miles (mine was oct 03 and had 17k miles) is listed at

So sorry to hear this. I've only had to deal with an insurance company once before........i had no car for 6 months whilst the 2-day repair was agreed. Some of the staff on the other end of the phone had me doubting my own sanity. By the end of the whole episode, i just wanted to drive the car into, through and out of their offices.

Hope you get it sorted soon.
