Heya Xav. Read your post, chills over my spine from reading it! Very scary incident. So glad ur ok mate and ur missus too!

From reading ur old posts, i know you have put alot of effort and money into it, sorry to hear abt ur car! Like most people have said as long as ur ok, car is replaceable. But hope you get another one mate and hope you can salvage some parts from the old fab and install it to ur new one. Good luck and hope you can put this behind you and look forward to the rest of the year in good health and prosperity. All the best, Mike!

What can I say, apart from whar has been said already. I am glad that you and SWMBO are both ok.

Looks like a write off from what I can see in the pics, if they write it off I hope your insurance will pay what the car is really worth rather than the what glasses and parkers guides are saying.

It may also be worth checking if they decide to write the car off, and not return the car to the uk whether or not you will need to pay import duty or some kind of other fee for disposal in the country where the car currently is. If you do, hopefully your car or travel insurance should cover it.

Hey Jason , looks like you might have found a source for an engine upgrade :)

Hi Xav

Nice to know both of you are in one piece, car can be replaced...you can't

Never mind m8, at least you're both OK.

****e happens :Kick_Can_

Just think of all the bits you can have on the new one. :)

Just to add the same as everyone else, doesn't mean it's any less heartfelt!

The main thing is you are both fine, the furby can be replaced.

Hope they get a new one sorted for you soon...

(and I think you did a better job than Jason :duck: :D )

:rubchin: Hmm Des. You naughty naughty man. I'll think about that :D

Dr Z, Jay already pestered me for lots of bits, including engine and six speed box. After all, DSS (Devonutopia Salvaging Services) has put forward interesting offers :P j/k

Now I have the fun and games of trying to sort out with the ins co. I need a car to get to work and they weren't forthcoming with providing one... Come to think of it, I was promised the assessor would ring me withint 24-48 hours of reporting the claim. The 48 hours bit was 72 hours ago

Glad you are both okay which is the main thing.

As seen as it's 12 months since Jay's mishap I think he has passed the 'torch' on to you.

As has been said,at least you are both OK,a tribute to the stength and build

of the car. Look forward to seeing the new addition about in Berkshire once you are sorted.

All I can say is DITTO from what has already been said.

havin spent money on some decent ICE ( & you were a but gutted with this mishap), Im sure the insurance Co wont give you the true value for it, could you salvage it , to go to your next Furby ?

Steve

Xavier, have a read of this link to the Insurance Ombudsman Bureau in which there is discussion on the valuation of motor vehicles. Although that Bureau no longer operates, the priciples involved are the same.

Xavier, Glad that everyone was ok, afterall its only metal. Limbs and such arent as easily re-purchased.

Out of curiosity who are you insured with? Sounds a bit naughty that they won't provide a courtesy car. I'm with tesco and they gave me a car for two weeks despite mine being written off.

Good luck with it all.

The main problem is going to be if a replacement car has to be built to order.

Looks like a cheap shed to run round in for a couple of months might be on the cards

After all' date=' DSS (Devonutopia Salvaging Services) has put forward interesting offers :P j/k

[/quote']:rofl::D mmmm, 190hp TDI. :rofl:

On another note though, you should get a courtesy car. I had the joys of a 1.2 polo for 4 weeks while my claim was being sorted out.

Any news on the decision yet? Or if the insurance is shipping it back to the UK? As you said before having a RHD Fabia for spares in France seems a little stoopid.

Sorry to hear about you're mis-hap Xav, and glad you and swmbo are both ok.

Oh yea, welcome to I.B.M.A. :D

Jonno(2nd vice president)

Hi there!

Just read your account and seen the piccies :(

Glad you are both ok although it must be gutting to have lost the car. Does show how strong the Fabia is though.

Hope you manage to get it sorted out soon :)

However' date=' I have a cunning plan, my lords... :D

One fellow briskodian lives 300 yards from me and works at the same place as I do. I did give him lifts in to work for a couple of weeks when he had a problem so I may just ask him to return the favour :)[/quote']

Yep, but I still reckon you should get a free courtesy car to use and abuse for a while (just not abuse like you did to the furby, eh? ;))

 blimmin ell Xav! unlucky mate :o

glad your ok..

ps, if you can maybe grab the ICE out of it..... ;)

edit: i see the xenons are ok too

Xavier,

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Hopefully everything will work out ok.

Yep, but I still reckon you should get a free courtesy car to use and abuse for a while (just not abuse like you did to the furby, eh? ;))

Yep, courtesy cars are great. People always keep away from you as they see XXX coachbuilders / xxx accident repair centre on the side and they think "Woah, that guys been in a smash must avoid him"! My mate got one after his accident and let me tell you Fix Or Repair Daily applied! His Fiesta courtesy car broke down the day he picked it up! Unfortunately for him he then got stuck with a Micra, and developed a sense of paranoia as he was sure everybody was laughing at him!

X, same statements as the others- glad your alright. I think you are better to have your car written off in the long run as you will get the physiological doubts that it isn't the same car. My dad had his new Caviller badly smashed in the late 80's early 90's when I was a young mite to the extent of it being within a couple of hundred quid to be an economical repair. The repaired it and he was rather disappointed as when he got it back it had new squeaks and rattles and he never felt it was the same car. He sold it soon after.

Xav, sorry to hear about your incident and glad that you are both ok. It's only metal and can be replaced.

Jason, "Yep, I still think that was partially to blame for the sudden snapping out of my back end going around that corner", it didn't get me :P

Glad you're OK. I did a similar thing to my Nova back in my irresponsible youth lol and it came out looking muh like that. Again it still held its shape well though, probably because it was a 20,000 mile car that had been garaged all its life and was not subject to the usual vauxhall tin worm weakening the shell! Shame I obliterated it really :(
