Broadband advice anyone?

Featured Replies

Just because they are cheaper don't mean they any more reliable, your contension ratio might be worse, the pipes to the states etc might be worse, you can't comment on prices alone because they are cheaper.

Also, it costs more money to have a good customer service setup whether you ever use it or not!

Pipes to the states? ADSL ISPs use the BT network?

BT services the request from home to ISP, ISP then services the request from ISP to website. Plusnet have be investing heavily in their infrastructure, all these little things Joe Public doesn't see when going for a cheap ISP.

Yes Rob and Plusnet have a very good customer service, always answered my calls sharpish.

I mistyped, I meant to say other companies offer much better value. I have no experience of the actual Plus Net service, so can not comment.

The truth his much of the internet data streams through a netwrok of computers in universities world wide. As far as I know all internet activity from and to America travels through one of two cable connections, so again I fail to see how a tiddler like PlusNet can improve its 'pipes'.

In the UK for example almost all internet traffic travels through the node in University College, London.

Wrong again ! The Docklands is also used heavily.

Plusnet would of possibly bought more bandwidth on these pipes.

I won't argue as the last time I had call to look at the actual physical structure of the internet was 7 or 8 years ago.

Certainly there is only one connection to Ireland as we often see times when there is a problem and you can only open sites actually based on the island of Ireland!

Getting back to the original question - adslguide is the best place to go to get an 'impartial' look at the various ISPs rated by users. Check it out :D

Seems to be no mention of Tesco Internet on the ADSL Guide as far as I can see?

Taken from ADSL Guide:

we aren't convinced that MAC code migrations exist for individuals from Datastream. tesco's NTL offerring is datastream again, do you really want to opt for more constraints ?

Demon Home500 is

Really, NTL do not operate in my area, so not sure how Tesco can be using them.

Tesco and Virgin both use NTL. Don't confuse NTL the cable supplier with NTL the ISP. You can get NTL internet access (dialup or BB) over a standard BT line.

:)

Taken from ADSL Guide:

I just did a search on the forums for Tesco Broadband.

Perhaps, but it is not one of the ISPs actually listed on the site.

I didn't say it was......I just said I got the information from there.

Tesco Broadband is fairly new comparitively speaking but I expect it will be added over the course of time.

Yes I know. I dare say there will be people who will end up have bad experiences with them, I might even do so myself in due course. However for some one starting from scratch who does not want to have down load limits it is pretty good value.

Did you read that article on the ADSL page about some dodgy ISP getting a Debt collector called Wescott to seak money from former customers?

That is bad news for them, a friend of mine who got herself into credit card debt had an account passed to Wescott and they were ******s. These people could end up having their credit rating killed over a debt that seemingly they do not owe! Makes you think.

Hold on if she got herself into debt who's fault was it then ?

Sorry Geoff my bad

She got herself into trouble, didn't say she had not, I was commenting on Wescott the debt collector. She also had debt troubles with a number of companies, but only Wescott resisted her comming to a sensible and workable arrangement. She came to me and my wife for help and I did a lot of research, found a Debt website (DebtUK) and it turned out that Wescott have a very very bad reputation for aggresive behaviour.

But you inferred that

I didn't infer it, that statement was referring to the Broadband users whom according to the article on the ADSL page did not owe the company anything.

Whatever

When you wrote this you did inferred that. But like always you have twisted it yet again. :thumbdwn:

Whatever

Chavy just go back and read what I wrote, slowly and with some thought. So many people seem to have trouble actually comprehending! You would be amazed at how many students answer what they think a question has asked (usually as soon as they notice a single term in the question) rather than what is actually asked.

Lah Lah Lah I am not listening, And it only Chavy to my friends

Ah and there I think is the crux of the matter, you have responded with hostility to a post I made, not because of its content, but because you hold some immature grudge against me.

No it's not an immatuire grudge.. I just don't like you like alot of people on the site !

Oh and what exactly have I ever done to make you dislike me? Have I insulted you?, stolen something from you?, walked up and punched you on the nose????? Don't think so some how, so it is indeed an immature grudge.
