I used to think (in my yoof!) the cavalier cabrios werent too bad, would have been better in SRi guise though. They do look so dated today though, at least they arent/werent a common sight like the escort cabrios

Im sure i recall they weren't made by Vauxhall, by some other company that took a factory car, then cut the roof off.

A convertible, based on the two-door and converted by Hammond and Thiede in Germany, was subsequently offered.

They did a version for the Mk1 as well called the 'centaur'. Another very rare one.

Is that an SRi model as it has the rubber lip on the boot like other MK2 SRi's had.

Seems to be a different trim level, it has the same size engine as a lower specced SRi (1.8i) though. I would have thought that if it was it would have been named the SRI Convertible, for boasting sake. Maybe it lost its rigidity and sportiness by adding a softtop so wouldnt have suited the SRi badge.

To help boost sales of the Mk2 Cavalier a Convertible version was launched in 1985. This was based on the 3-door saloon which was only available for a short time in the UK and was not very successful. The conversion of the Convertible was carried out by Hammond & Thiede. The car only came as a 1.8 injection. Standard equipment included electric front windows, electrical operated and heated door mirrors, electric boot release. Option equipment included 3 speed automatic gear box, power steering, drivers seat height adjust and two-coat metallic paint. Production continued up till the introduction of the Mk3 Cavalier. These are as rare as hens teeth now as are any sporty mk2 cavaliers . I owned an 85 mk 2 sri as a lad as cheaper to insure than a Mk1 Astra GTE by some margin at the time.

IIRC it has used a L-Tronic 1.8 115bhp engine as used in the SRi/CDi/GLi but did not have the SRi's closer ratio gearbox. 87 onwards had a 1.8 with 112bhp using Motronic Injection, also used on the Sri 130, which was 2.0. I think the last of the convertibles got the newer engine but might be wrong.

The convertible was just badged as a 1.8i and was mainly based on CDi trim.
