Yeti Competition ?

Featured Replies

I see a few car commentators are trying to say the Nissan Juke is a contender to take on the Yeti ?? Well if there is an uglier car on the road than the Juke tell me what it is because it is the real Peter Beardsley of the car world.......its like a Toyota Yaris front end welded to a mini rear end, followed by a huge weight being dropped on the roof until its nice and squashed !!...

......what a horrible horrible ugly car !!! Cant even see it in the same league as the Yeti myself ?

It's not. It is based on a Micra platform. So if Skoda did a softroader on the Fabia platform you would have a competitor. The Yeti is bigger and crucially about £3000 more expensive. But in saying that I can see a place for the Juke in this world. We need more quirkiness and therefore should celebrate the Juke's Bulldog ugliness.

Thought the Juke was just under 14k which puts it in the same price bracket as a Yeti E 1.2TSI which besides being a better car (not biased honest officer :giggle: ) has the better motor too.

But the Juke is "Urbanproof" - does that mean it's no good in town ?

In fact what does it mean ? And what on earth is the advert about ?

How can you take something seriously when it is advertised with bull**** like that ?

I agree, haven't seen anything as ugly as that since the Citroen Dyane, or the Maxi.

I have been a Nissan owner for many years (2 Terranos, 1 X-trail) and they have been very reliable and good cars. BUT now, as the owner of a Yeti, I have no regrets whatever. (except about the lack of boot space)

Nissan lost its way when it stopped supplying mid and larger saloon cars such as the Primera and Almera. As for the Juke - its just a spelling mistake for Joke.

And it certainly ain't a box (unless it's one that has been sat on by a hippo).

Bit like the new Range Rover in the back, where passengers sit so low that they're beneath the window! Must be like trying to look out of a letter box!

I think Juke is more Puke than Joke!

The Juke must have some admirers-only been on sale a week and the waiting list already goes into December.

Styling as ever is all down to personal taste. The Juke is looking like it will be every bit as popular as the Quashqai.

Not for me though and as for it being a direct Yeti competitor just don't see it myself.

I am sure the 'Urbanproof' juke will prove excellent at climbing kerbs and will be seen with its universal park anywhere hazard flashers and attendant Yummy Mummies on main urban roads near you shortly.

In short, it will eat into Mini sales.

Yep and I said as much before. I also think it will be people upgrading from MINIs (with two doors and no boot space) that will buy Jukes. So to them it is a HUGE uplift in space and being quirky again like when they bought their first new MINI - no one notices you when you are on your third MINI. Yeti people want a bit more space than a Juke offers I'd think.

having seen one in real life, i think the biggest competition the Juke has is the BMW X1

(for "Ugliest Car" trophy)

as far as eating into MINI sales is concerned, is that not why they're now doing the Countryman?

Competition? Not for the Yeti.

A Yeti equates to a Qashqai. The Juke has almost set its own category but I guess it is up against the Countryman alone. The Juke is not a family sized car, that is where the Qashqai fits into the Nissan range.

Will it do well? Many people sneered at the Qashqai when that first came out but it transformed the car market and keeps a lot of people in Sunderland and around in work. I doubt the Yeti would exist if it had not been for the Qashqai. Maybe in a few years we will be seeing a Fabia style Yeti that is competing against the Juke.

I would rather have strong designs that I either like or dislike than dull Euro / Japanese boxes. Keep going you LSD induced Nissan designers

Agree entirely. emoticon-0148-yes.gif Whilst the Juke may not be to everyone's taste, it does show some adventurous thought by the designers as opposed to the instantly forgettable forms of many other far eastern saloons. Personally, I like it because it is different and will stand out from the crowd. It's had mixed reviews so far but, if I had to choose between a Countryman and the Juke, I'd go for the Juke.

As for the ugliest crossover on the market - that prize definitely goes to the X1.

Totally agree on the X1, I still give a double take of disbelief whenever I see one. Should have a curfew.

And to cap it all it now looks as if the damned things don't stop either, TV full of news about a huge recall of BMWs/Rolls Royce over 'brake issues'.

OK so this one is not sold here and is not a crossover, but this must surely be the ugliest 4x4, no vehicle of any description, on the planet: The Infiniti QX56. The X1 is pure elegance next to this beast.

That's disgusting, and i've just eaten which makes it worse :S

Looks like the result of a liaison between a Toyota Landcrusher and a Ssangyong Odious.

If we are going for ugly has anyone seen a BMW X6. I know it is in a larger sized category than the Yeti but boy is it hideous. You have to see the rear end in the flesh to appreciate how awful it is, the pictures do not quite do it justice. I've seen two in real life and they still make me shudder. I can't believe they have sold many.

I actually test drove an X1 to see what it was like. If you drive exclusively on motorways then it is excellent but for day to day driving it is not good. The nice touches are there but then you would expect that at the price you pay. It certainly could not compete with the Yeti for the pure driving experience which would no doubt mortify the people at BMW.

I thought Infiniti was meant to be a prestige brand? Nightmare.

I agree with davecarter on design of the 'Juke'. Funny enough my neighbour works at the Nissan plant in Sunderland, he has a Qashqai and Micra (can't blame him really there heavily discounted to staff).

I overtook a truck with a load of unregistered Jukes on, a few days ago, heading north upthe A1, possibly to Scotland?

This morning saw a red Juke driving down the main high street here, definately has a strong micra resemblance.

In my opinion, one of the better looking crossover vehicles is the Range Rover Evoque, on sale next year. Not a qashqaiwannabe by any stretch of the imagination, but £30k for the base model ! :o

Good grief now that is a car you should only be seen dead in, and as a hearse it would do the job nicely !!

Urghh

I'd want to depart this Earth in something not quite so pig ugly :(

I have now seen a red Juke sveral times on my way home from work. I'd never buy it but it does have a certain charm in it being so different. It certainly stands out and somehow avoids being just totally ugly like the X1 or X6.

The X6 in particular reminds me of a kit car made by a firm called Dutton about 20 years ago where the back was so jacked up that you could see all of the rear suspension and fuel tank. A mate made one from his Dad's old Escort and totally regretted it!

I like quirky and not run of the mill, that's one of the reasons I'm buying the Yeti.

  • 3 weeks later...

I agree that the Yeti is altogether a different car (class wise) to the Juke, it's main competitor is the Cashcow, Mr Journalist! However, price wise it is quite competitive (not the same equipment level obviously) with the Juke.

On a different note, I seem to be the rare person to like the Juke, I think it looks brilliant, but too small and don't like the Micra based platform and single row camchain engines, which have well documented engine failures! (I think the 1.6 is based on the 1.0 and 1.2 on the Micra?)

We had one of these parked opposite recently:

YYEEUUKK!!

I'll probably be in trouble for saying this but does the Cube look a bit like the Roomster?
