VRS Insurance?

Featured Replies

Seeking your advice/thoughts on who is currently doing the best deals on insurance for the Octavia Vrs.

I've a 2007 pertrol hatch, which has quite a few 'extra's'...but nothing performace related (has xenons, 18's etc)...I've had hassles in the past getting adequate cover due to the majority of the majors claiming it was modified ( been thro' all that on here before )...I initially insured it with Brentacre, but costs kept on increasing & last year I got a good deal with Aviva, who accepted that it was a standard car as it left the factory that way.

Last years deal included 2 months free, so I expect some increase this year...but my biggest concern is that they seem to have changed their policy, so that any 'extra's' now class it as modified, so here we go again.

I'll probably try the various brokers again...Brentacre, Chris Knott, Sky & Adrain Flux, are these still the main players?? I'll also run my details thro' the comparision sites, but I will need to clarify the modded part with any prospective insurer.

Definitely go for chris knott, virtually guarantee to beat any quote given. (apart from mine) So I now pay £3000 to insure my octy lol

I managed to get mine through Sky Insurance. They were really helpful and beat my insurance renewal quote by 20% if i could prove my quote. Even negotiated further on that offer. Managed to get mine for £420 for 25 y/o with 7 years no claims, no points and living in a low rate crime zone. Thought it was very reasonable.

Apparently Sky are a nightmare to have a claim through.. they are meant to be terrible after service (God forbid that happening to you)

Go for a performance insurer and dont forget to let them know your a member of a forum and i got a healthy discount on my leon with Adrian Flux on an already decent quote. Ive asked about the 09 octy already and with the mods im planning declared was £400 (same as the renewal on the leon (heavily modded).

Check the ones that sponsor this forum mate as believe that it works on the principal that the insurance brokers/companies usually buy a certain number of policies for certain cars (eg 30 octy mk2 vRS) for a total price and then sell them to us. This means that depending on how many they have sold already will depend on how good the deal is. Hit and miss so worth a few calls and would really advertise on here unless they wanted to sell them.

This is what i was told before but might be talking bo**ox these days lol.

Well in the past I've found that the big insurers like Aviva offer the best deal for new customers but then bump things up a lot for renewal. However, they normally price match if you are an existing customer and phone them directly and can get a better quote elsewhere - that way it saves on setting up new direct debits etc, and is always worth trying before you do decide to definately switch.

Whatever you do tell them your postcode first thing on the call, or prepare to have you time wasted (Adrian Flux, Im looking at you...)

I'm with AXA and my VRs 2.0TFSi was cheaper to insure than my old car: e36 323i Sport Tourer

I am with AVIVA and my insurance was £20 more than my 10 year old 206GTI (136) when changing over in March and renewal in Jul was about the same again. I have 18"s etc. I have to admit though that I thought the 18"s were standard.

PS with AVIVA if you renew on line you save £18 off the renewal quote.emoticon-0144-nod.gif

Admiral.com as my previous insurer would not touch the Octavia vRS as its too high of a risk :dull:

whats the point in doing "who gives best quote" crap

Everyone is different

Start with our sponsers // then try a compare the mee.. market... then call the company direct who offers the cheaper.

Everyones situation / location etc etc is different

One person may say.. C.K will be defo cheapest... or A.Flux.. or Postoffice.. then you could try direct line and get cheapest their. ( i didnt ) but its an example

Phone the companies.. stop being lazy because if you are going to be lazy you will miss out on the cheapest quote for your self while your being clouded by other peoples prices.. which you might not get close to with the companies they have got theirs with

How very strange.

I'm with Admiral right now on my Octy vRS.

They were the cheapest by around £40 when I renewed back in January.

So they will take on Octy vRS - must be something in your circumstances that meant they said no.

I had a nightmare getting insurance this year. Renewal was nearly doubled, best quote was 100 less than renewal (the green insurance company) but didnt include breakdown, etc and Green have a lot of, IMO, unfair policy restrictions. Had to stay with current insurer and even they gave me a 2 page addendum to my policy of new restrictions they are taking out.

The 'beat your renewal' (notice renewal, not quote!) did indeed beat it, but with less options, more restrictions, and still wasnt as cheap as my best quote from Green (lack of flexibility, etc.).

Knott, Flux, Sky were about as much use as a choccy teapot.

I thought insurance was meant to be cheaper as you got older, more no claims, etc? *sigh*

That and wit fuel prices, I'm verging on the VRS having to go

sorry I think I worded that very badly. I'm now with admiral as my previous insurer would not touch the Octavia vRS even though they had been insuring my mod'd fabia vRS for the past 4 years!

Admiral was the cheapest but only after alot of moaning on the phone to them it went for £790 a year down to a not so bad £560 (but still too much in for my liking).

Yes everyone is different and it is my postcode that is the problem

Thanks for all those helpful replies (well most were helpful !)

I have done the comparison sites in anticipation that the Aviva renewal will go up. As always I'll be sure to call them & negotiate for the best deal they'll provide, as it is so much easier not to jump around every year, but I will if there is a much better deal out there.

Most (if not all) of you seem to appreciate the value in seeking the opinions of those in the same boat (yes I am aware everyone's circumstances are different), as it does give you a feel for those worth bothering with.

Thanks for your 'valuable' input Mr Mul - however any reply that advises my question is 'crap' & that I am being 'lazy' probably isn't worth paying too much attention to. Maybe you have plenty spare time, but it's not a luxury I have!

Miserablegit - I think the 18's are/were standard on some, but were part of a 'free' upgrade on mine.

All those with Aviva - thanks for the tips. I'll wait & see what their renewal is first, thankfully I am not paying as much as some of you are - £3k !!!!! WTF !

i know... 3k is atrocious but 19 years old, 1 years NCB, living in an 'E rated' postcode of F being the worst i think about sums it up..

FWIW im 27, but had a claim last december. this years premium was about £1700 business class 1 :(

I live in one of the worst manchester postcodes though, some people wont even quote. its bs especially when I have electronic gates to the parking area etc.

I was with ****cover.com last year but they tried to bend me over this year for no reason :(

Shopped around and got the same cove for 50% less :)

Just read the other post recently made on the same subject...so I am off to check out Skoda insurance & all those others you've suggested. Also going to check out Whatcarcompare, who are offering £20 cashback.

Elephant were offering £520 to renew with them so looked around and got a deal with AXA for £340 (which included better cover than Elephant's equivalent). Went back to Elephant to see if they would match that and they managed to knock <drum roll> ... £20 off their quote!

AXA cost me £380 in the end, to protect NCB, still saved over £120 though!

Combination of the car being insured in wife's name (legitimately), with 9 yrs NCB, low annual mileage and living in 2nd lowest risk postcode helps. :)

Skoda quote ok but not the best - can save about 40% elsewhere. Whatcarcompare is just Beat that Quote rebranded ! Some interesting options come up on all the comparison sites - RSA Echoice & More Than...any comments/experiences?

bare in mind cheapest is not always best.

Agreed...but it's tough to determine who is best...until you have to claim. Always good to get feedback from others (particularly on here !)
