Three and a half month wait for the wrong car!

Featured Replies

Got the call last week from our dealer, Hayseldens of Doncaster, to say our Yeti would be available for collection on Wednesday 20th October.

As you can imagine I was walking around with a permanent grin for the rest of the day. Until Saturday morning that is when they sent a letter comfirming details prior to registering the car with the DVLA. As I checked the details I noticed it stated 110bhp when we'd ordered 140bhp. Rang the dealers and they said they'd look into it and that it was hopefully a typo. They rang back this morning (couldn't access the database at the weeekend) and it turns out that it is in fact the 110bhp model.

I asked them what could be done about it and they said I can either accept it or wait, probably 5-6 months now, for them to get the one I ordered built.

Have agreed to go in on Wednesday as arranged and give it a test drive before making our decision as we'd really like the 4wd before the winter arrives.

Thought about suggesting that we keep the 110bhp while they get the 140bhp built and then they swap them over and keep they 110bhp as a demo but I don't have the front for that and feel if they say no I'll undoubtedly blow my top as the more I think about it the more it seems to be a logical solution. (Would appreciate James' views on this)

Absolutely crestfallen and I'm afraid Skoda have now manufactured a very unhappy driver.

I personally wouldn't have it, there will always be a part of you wanting the car you ordered. If its there F**k up then make them pay, they shouldn't have cocked it up.

A similar thing happened to a friend of mine and he did exactly that, drove the "wrong" car until the right one arrived. He ordered an Audi A4 quattro and when it arrived it was FWD. The only difference was that it wasn't picked up in PDI and they handed the car over to him without realising!!

My advice would be to have the front to ask and stick to your guns.

i'm with everyone else.

dont compromise your choice of a new car.

these things arent cheap after all.

i believe they have a moral responsibility to give you a courtesy car whilst yours arrives.

stay calm and be assertive.

you can do it !!!

Ask them. If you don't ask you don't get, what's the worst they can say, no?

If it's their error then it's their mistake to rectify.

Best they start grovelling.

If it was you that had in effect broken the contract, they'd be straight on to you!

Agree to take a car on loan whilst they source the correct one for you?

Sadly because of the current supply situation you may find it tough to close a deal - but you'll always be wishing you'd held out for what you originally ordered?

They are probably just as annoyed about it as you are, it does happen from time to time. Cars get ordered in the wrong colour or as a hatchback instead of an estate. The difference between a 110CR 4x4 and a 140CR 4x4 on our ordering system is easily misable. A 110CR 4x4 is 5K722Y where as a 140CR 4x4 is 5L424Y easy to get confused! A small numerical error results in a totally wrong car.

If it was me supplying the car, first I'd be apologising and then me personally would find a solution of getting you in a car to use whilst your original car is on order.

I wouldn't want to register the 110CR 4x4 and then take it back, if it was me selling you the car I'd try and find you an ex-Skoda Yeti 4x4 to use whilst your new car is on order.

Let us know what the outcome is, but I think you are well within your rights to get given a car to use. I wouldn't rant too much at the dealer as they'll be irritated by the error anyway, it might be worth speaking to SkodaUK (08457 745 754) and seeing if they can help in some way with supply of a replacment vehicle?

This does beg one question though.

How come Skoda could provide at least six Yetis for the IRC Rally Scotland? Were they ordered six months ago? What will happen to them now?

After being driven hard for two days through forest rally stages they will be sold as ex demos, management cars or ex skoda fleet cars to some poor unsuspecting new owner who think they have purchased ex demo.

You will still be charged a premium for a pre reg car due to the long waiting times for as new one.

Agree with this approach , not your fault , dont take it you will always regret , Broken contract , leave it to the dealer to sort out . Best question is always , iam the customer what are you the dealer and skoda going to do about it , 6 months yeti rental must be about £3k even at £500 per month , not your prob over to them , your the innocent one . !!!

Dispute resolved, in a very satisfactory fashion, following some silver-tongued persuasion.

The dealer has somehow managed to unearth a 140bhp Elegance 4x4 in cappuccino which they have agreed to heavily discount if we are willing to accept it.

I've been paid some backdated bonuses and a backpaid pay rise since we originally placed the order and was kinda rueing not going for the Elegance in the first place.

So we get the Elegance we really wanted at a great price.

Thanks for all your advice and encouragement folks

Skoda - the manufacturer of extremely happy drivers

No, at the time we placed the order money was a bit tighter but after getting the big bonus and backpay I wished we had.

Fate has obviously intervened in this one :D

Well that's a result if I ever saw one. Great news.

How did your did your dealer just 'happen to find' a spare Yeti? Whose should it have been?!!

Apparently, somebody ordered a 110bhp elegance, but got a 140 delievered :giggle:

You are joking aren't you? Easy mistake to make? It's probably the most fundamental part of a dealer's job – getting the order right.

The only similarity between those two numbers is a Y on the end, presumably for Yeti, so if a dealer hasn't checked and double checked the rest of the code before clicking 'return' he shouldn't be in the job.

Anyway, result for the OP
